GOOD MORNING
Okay, here’s the deal. I’m not even going to try to predict what today will be like. I’m going to finish my coffee and get to work. Whatever happens after that will happen.
Some days are best left to just tell you what’s going to happen. Today, for me, is one of those days.
I’ll be dragging my little brown desk somewhere in the living room and mashing keys today. I’m excited to get a shot at expanding a scene in that space station story I’ve worked on in the past. New book, same world, same heroes.
I’m also ready to do final edits on the bear habitat article from Korea. I’d like to get that one out before hibernation ends. Something like, “now that it's warm and people are venturing into nature more… LEAVE THE BEARS ALONE!”
So that’s how I’m starting out. We’ll see where things end up!
See you soon!
IF I WERE COOKING
So far, today has been very productive. If I were cooking, I’d have whipped up a Thanksgiving feast by now.
And, metaphorically, I am cooking! I finished the bear article. Now I’m working on the space thing (names changed).
“What do you actually mean?” Bob looked at the mechanic and shook his head.
“The interface is fried. Like you pushed giga-joules through a mega-joule coupling. There’s no fix. This has to be replaced.”
Bob felt like he’d been punched in the gut. “Where are you going to find an interface for a RJ-21 out here in the belt? And it’s an older model, on top of being Imperial.”
The mechanic looked up. “I’m not going to find one. If one’s found, you’ll have to find it.”
This is fun stuff. Bob’s flying a high-end Imperial ship out in the mining belt of a remote star system. If you ask me, Bob’s got a big problem!
As a ghostwriter, I sometimes come alongside the author and flesh out scenes like this. I don’t change the story. I just add dialogue, blocking, and sometimes sensory details.
I’m about to send this—it’s just a little bit of what I wrote before this post—back to the person who hired me for this one. Then, I’m going back to my outline of ideas and picking the next one.
That’s my midday update! Hope you’ll be back later. I will!
See you then!
PRIOR TALENT GROUP by Naomi Prior
It’s been a lot of years since I did anything meant to be public on this side of the lens—twenty-seven years to be exact. But Ailana Geven’s new manager, Jasmine, is very compelling. I like her, by the way.
Ailana said that some of the people who follow her stories have asked about the mysterious “Naomi Prior” who keeps coming up with work for them. Jasmine convinced me to do an introduction.
I was born in 1977 and married Steve—this handsome man here—in 2001. We met at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. We weren’t hasty, but we eventually knew we wanted to spend our lives together. Now, we live in the Village of Hinsdale, Illinois, about 20 miles west of Chicago.
Today, Steve and I are both working from home. We do that from time to time. Steve works in finance. He oversees portfolio strategy for a mid-market private equity firm in Chicago—reviewing acquisitions, managing risk exposure, and advising operating partners.
Most of his day is spent on calls with CFOs, analysts, and investors, making sure the numbers tell the truth before anyone makes a decision. He says his job is less about chasing returns and more about protecting what’s already been built.
As for me, I officially launched Prior Talent Group in 2002. I modeled from age 16 through college and generally found my agents wanting. I thought I could do better. I think I have.
I looked for dependable models and worked with stable, strong clients. In 2016, Aliana Geven signed with me. She’d deny it, but she’s an all-star model. Work ethic, flexibility, and endurance—all second to none.
Two years ago, she wanted to take a step back. I kept her book open and continued booking select projects for her.
Now, things for me have changed. And Ailana’s right back at the top of the favorites on my phone.

I’ve noticed that a lot of marketing director types are getting younger. They are impatient. They are used to next-day delivery, instant messaging, and online everything.
Some of them don’t even know you can cook popcorn on the stove, have never licked a stamp, or never even written a personal check to pay a bill. They call me in a panic because they didn’t plan well. Or they forget that not everyone has a light complexion when casting. Or they left out one outfit from the photoshoot they threw together.
Ailana’s group sort of teases that I call when I “need it yesterday.” They’re not wrong. They’ve proved that they can make things happen.
And they are good.
After the shoots in Montana and Colorado, Steve commented, “You know you might have some gold in that group. Fast turnaround. Great quality. I feel like they won’t say yes unless they can.”
Here’s the magic. They didn’t build their business on me calling. So I can grow my rapid response reputation without gaps that hurt them. Definitely, without a doubt, AGI Creative Group is my go-to solution for other people’s bad planning.
I only know one other creative group that comes close. A young guy in Boston with family money and some nice cameras. He’s good. He knows some handsome guys and attractive girls, and he can get them to wear clothes and smile.
He’s my backup plan. I used him for some hoodie shots on the same day that AGI was doing the bracelets.
So I have two creative houses that I can source “needed it yesterday” work to. AGI will always be my first choice, and I told Sasha that I hope they will grow with me. Sasha said they hoped so, too. Looks like a match, if you ask me.
I plan on passing work to them, even if it’s not last minute, too. In fact, I’m talking to a jacket designer about something. When I make the offer to AGI, I’m sure they are going to be surprised. No time-table, but call in a work in progress.
I guess this post is a good start to connect me to AGI. Standing here posing like American Gothic (1930) might leave Steve and I seeming a little flat, so I suppose a second image is in order.
How about a picture of what being happily married for 25 years looks like?
I don’t anticipate that I’ll show up here very often if ever. But now, at least, you can have a face to go with the name.
I’ll close out stealing Ailana’s tagline: Be your best you!
GOOD NIGHT
I’m waiting on Jason. He and Josh are on a call with one of their editors about the Incheon hotel article. Given the time difference, I think it’s summer there. Maybe not. Actually, it’s early morning there.
I’ll give you one guess where we’re heading. Yes. We’ll go at least as far as Access 7, but I feel like I need to kick some waves tonight.
Micah came in from work with a huge foil tray of ribs. His dad had a friend that knew a guy that… I don’t know what 100 pounds of pork ribs would look like, but I know what a plateful tastes like!
Geoni took on salad duty. Jasmine microwaved potatoes. Sasha opened cans of baked beans and doctored them up with brown sugar, mustard, and a little chili powder. Yeah. We feasted.
I really like days that just unfold and remind you that life sometimes is simply being part of something, doing what you’re supposed to do, and being grateful for it all.
Today has been sort of a default day. Work… Friends… Ending with a walk on the beach…
So I’ll wrap up with my default blessing:
May you grow attentive to the world and the people within it—learning what matters, choosing what is good, and acting where you can. May you become more fully yourself, offering help when it is needed, caring for creation, and leaving each place better than you found it.
Good night.
Be your best you!
