Chapter 37: MAKE IT HAPPEN by Tom Jenkins

Responding to David Ryder’s invitation to start a second phase of the Crossroads Apartments took up pretty much all of yesterday. I’m making progress.

I knew that Merritt and Hannah worked for NYC SysCo in a division that handles remodeling. I had them reconnect me with the division director, Will Robertson. He and I have crossed paths a few times before, and today I called him.

“Mr. Robertson, I need this to go fast but be done right—something that will last a long time, meet code, and stay on schedule,” I explained.

He said NYC SysCo could do it. “Of course, we’ll not cut corners. The quality has to be second to none.”

“I have a contract with a company called NYC Core Transit and Courier Services. It’s new. They want to move some of their crew into the micros ASAP, but the rest can be built out without the rush.”

“Well,” Mr. Robertson replied, “the whole building will have some shared features. Stairs and elevator… plumbing stacks… HVAC… Rushing pushes up the cost.”

“I understand that. Can we start demo while you’re working up plans?”

“That’s a conditional ‘yes.’ Hannah and Merritt said they’d be glad to help, even doing some after-hours work. We’ll dig in and see if we can get blueprints to the existing building. “Maybe they can start checking for variances early next week,” he added.

I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. “So, is it within the realm of possibility that—working around the clock as much as possible—the second floor work could be done by some time in early May?”

“Again, a qualified ‘yes.’ If all we’re doing is moving walls and doorways, that’s feasible. If there are structural issues, there’s just no telling.”

Chapter 38: PROCEED OR NOT by Meredith Sinclair

Another day in the classroom has come to an end and I still have kids who have no clue how to use the chain rule. I’ll reteach and see if I can close the gaps.

As I sit here, I am trying to decide between three things:

…should I text Will Robertson and tell him I’d like to talk about some ideas for the new books…

…should I actually work on the new books…

…should I text Will Robertson and tell him I’d just like to talk…

Be your best you!

Thank-You Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet connectivity fees) AGI Stories racks up expenses of just over $100 per month. Every supporter is helping!

I fully believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the creative process and offer encouragement. I’m honored by that and genuinely moved.

I realize that I share a lot of content free to everyone. I imagine most of you understand why. The stories about giving back and helping others feel like they shouldn’t be locked behind a pay-wall, and some plot moments need to remain accessible for anyone following the larger narrative.

With that in mind, I always keep you—the paid members—in mind when deciding how to share things.

I hope that reserving a few photos and small sections of each post for you serves as a modest expression of my gratitude.

Again, thank you very, very much.

Chapter 37: MAKE IT HAPPEN by Tom Jenkins. Well, Mr. Jenkins. I'm certain that, if any company can get it done in that narrow a time frame, it would be NYC SysCo. I guess "no telling" is a combination of honesty and hedging his bets. Have a good day.

Chapter 38: PROCEED OR NOT by Meredith Sinclair. Your students are very lucky to have you, Dr. Sinclair. Brother Joel did not reteach anything. I didn't understand the materil. So I dropped that class. And your students are high school?? Smarter than me, I guess. Is just talking, okay? I would venture to guess option 3 might just end up covering the first two, eventually. Why not? My opinion. Thanks for listening. Thanks for the photos and making your post. Good luck!
