GOOD MORNING

I’m waking up late with a fairly full schedule today. I’m going to keep this post brief.

Today, we’ll explore a few of Mobile’s landmark locations. There are quite a few of them, and our brief visit will barely scratch the surface.

Geoni is with me today doing photography work. Josh and Jason are heading to the U.S.S. Alabama to grab notes and photos there. Micah and Clay are going to do routine maintenance on Savannah’s Charm. Sasha and Jasmine are going to line up things for tomorrow and start locking in reservations for the next stop. They also have some SwimFit work today.

I actually love the fact that the core SwimFit team is now two families—The Everetts and the Banks. Of course Sasha and Jasmine do AGI work, too, but the four of them are the ones trying to get SwimFit off the drawing board and into the marketplace.

More on all that, I assume, will come later—once I cajole Sasha or Clay into making a post!

With that said, I hope you have a great Friday morning. See you soon!

BELLINGRATH GARDENS & HOME

Geoni and I are at Bellingrath Gardens & Home. There’s a lot here, and we’re taking our time.

The place began with Walter and Bessie Bellingrath, who made their fortune in the Coca-Cola bottling business in the early 1900s. What started as a fishing camp along the Fowl River gradually turned into something much more ambitious.

Walter loved landscaping and began bringing in plants from all over the region. Over time, the property evolved into a series of formal gardens, winding paths, and quiet corners designed to showcase the Gulf Coast’s climate and plant life.

The home itself—completed in 1935—is a large brick residence designed in a classic Southern style. It has wide porches and rooms arranged to catch the breeze off the river. Inside, much of the original furniture and décor remains in place, so walking through it feels a bit like stepping back into another era. After Walter passed away, Bessie made the decision to open the gardens and the home to the public so people could enjoy what they had created.

Today the property is about sixty-five acres of gardens arranged around the river. There are themed areas like the Rose Garden, the Mirror Lake area, and long shaded walks lined with camellias and azaleas. Geoni and I have already spent a good bit of time just wandering along the brick paths and stopping whenever something catches our attention.

One thing I like about this place is that it doesn’t feel rushed. There are benches everywhere, so you can just sit for a few minutes and enjoy the quiet. The river is always somewhere nearby, and every now and then a breeze moves through the trees and reminds you that you’re still very much in coastal Alabama.

For now, Geoni and I are simply walking and taking pictures. It’s one of those places where you don’t feel any need to hurry. And honestly, I think that might be exactly what Walter Bellingrath had in mind when he started planting here all those years ago.

CATCHING UP by Kaylee Branch

Hudson’s napping, me and Isaac are between cleanings right now, so I came down to the beach for a little bit. Isaac is keeping an eye on him and watching the news.

It’s been a good week. We’ve had some oddball checkouts all week. Not the normal days. Some people leaving early, some staying an extra day, stuff like that. Tomorrow and Sunday are the big turn days. That’s when a lot of places check out and new people check in, and we have to flip units as fast as possible.

I still have two more units to turn later once the renters get checked out, so I’ve got a little break before that starts.

Me and Isaac sat down this week and made a budget too. Spring break is coming and after that it stays busy here for months. So we’re going to try and save most of what we make. We’ve been living pretty simple since November anyway, so we’re just going to keep doing that.

Dave Callahan, our boss, told us the other day we’re his most reliable crew. That made me feel really good. Me and Isaac try hard to show up and do the work right.

We did say we can spend a little though. We’re going to give ourselves $50 a week for clothes or extras. Maybe a meal at Denny’s or grabbing some fast food once in a while.

Things are really great right now, honestly. Sometimes I just sit and think about how life turned out. Me and Isaac got married February 4, 2022, and it feels like everything has been building step by step since then. Now we’ve got Hudson and he’s doing great too.

His birthday is coming up May 3, and me and Isaac were talking about that last night. I can’t believe he’s getting that big already.

Anyway, I better enjoy the beach for a few minutes while Hudson’s still sleeping. Then it’s back to work for the afternoon.

GOOD NIGHT

When you get to the end of a day that feels like you did a lot, what do you like to do to wind down? That’s sort of how we felt when we rendezvoused back at Savannah’s Charm.

We decided to give the galley a break tonight and walked to the marina’s restaurant. The Grand Mariner Restaurant & Marina has a wonderful dining facility.

I grabbed a menu image from Google Maps for you to see.

I’ll spare you all the details, but Jason talked Micah into trying what he was going to have—the Seafood Sampler Platter. Neither of them were disappointed!

I went with the Whitefish Almondine. Also not mad about my decision!

While I could transition into a long discussion about tomorrow’s plans, I think I’ll let that wait until tomorrow.

The current plan is to explore more of Mobile tomorrow, have dinner at a place one of you recommended, then shove off into the dark gulf and head for Dauphin Island. We’ll cruise slowly, sleep en route, dock just after sunrise on Sunday, the 15th, and spend the day there.

Meanwhile, we’re just hanging out tonight for a little while before heading back… I almost wrote “home,” because in some ways that’s how I feel about Savannah’s Charm.

I’ll close out this post now.

May you have the opportunity to find things that change how you view the world and expand how you see your place in it.

Good night.

Be your best you!

Thank-You Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet connectivity fees) AGI Stories racks up expenses of just over $100 per month. Every supporter is helping!

I fully believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the creative process and offer encouragement. I’m honored by that and genuinely moved.

I realize that I share a lot of content free to everyone. I imagine most of you understand why. The stories about giving back and helping others feel like they shouldn’t be locked behind a pay-wall, and some plot moments need to remain accessible for anyone following the larger narrative.

With that in mind, I always keep you—the paid members—in mind when deciding how to share things.

I hope that reserving a few photos and small sections of each post for you serves as a modest expression of my gratitude.

Again, thank you very, very much.

GOOD MORNING. Good morning, Ailana. It's good that the core SwimFit team is now two families—The Everetts and the Banks. Better chance of success that way. Also good that Sasha and Jasmine do double duty with AGI, but the four of them are needed to get SwimFit off the drawing board and into the marketplace. Yes. Sounds like plans for everyone. Thanks for the agenda. And the bonus photo. Have a great day!
