ANYTHING FOR A FRIEND by Jordan Warner
Okay, so this is not my post.
This is me covering for a friend who is currently hiding in a bathroom at Soul Fish Cafe trying to convince her nervous system that she is not, in fact, under attack.
Cindi sent me this photo and said, “I cannot do this right now. Please make a post for me.”
So here we are. I have been deputized.
From what I can piece together, this is supposed to be a nice, normal dinner. Both sides of the family all together for the first time:
Her parents—Ray and Elaine
His parents—Mark and Susan
His brother James
His sister Rachel
So, you know… no pressure. Just eight people, multiple conversational lanes, and the emotional equivalent of a group project no one can leave.
Cindi and Michael are sitting there in the middle of it, looking like the calm, functional adults in the room.
Except… not exactly.
She told me everyone is being kind. No drama. No weird comments. No one has said anything remotely out of pocket.
Which is great.
And also the worst possible scenario.
Because now there’s nothing to point to—just the quiet feeling of, “I am being perceived by too many humans at once.”
Too many conversations. Too many people looking at her. Too many expectations (real or imagined). Too many moments where she feels like she’s supposed to say the right thing, respond the right way, be “on.”
And Michael?
She said he’s doing exactly what you’d expect—steady, grounded, casually checking on her without turning it into a situation.
Which helps.
And also somehow raises the bar in her own head.
(Anxiety is fun like that. Highly recommend.)
So she stepped away for a minute.
That’s when I get a message like, “Hey can you just… be me for a second?”
From the outside, this looks like a really good night.
And it is.
It just doesn’t always feel that way from the inside.
Give her a minute—she’ll be back.
And no, she didn’t ruin anything.
Not even close. And you can bet Michael understands 100%—so there’s that.
Be your best you!

Thank-You Message to Paying Supporters:
It is my belief that most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. I am honored and greatly moved.
I know that I share a LOT of content FREE TO ALL. I'd imagine that you understand why. The stories about giving back and helping seem like they shouldn't be exclusive. Certain plot moments need to be understood by anyone trying to to follow the stories.
With that in mind, I always consider you, the paid members, when deciding how to share content.
My hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!
Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet connectivity fees) AGI Stories racks up expenses of just over $100 per month. Every supporter is helping!
Again, thank you very, very much.
