Message from AGI-Stories…

For a year, I've been saying that I need to give Secrets Of The World more attention. I've had this chapter planned for over a month.

Yesterday, I had a realization. They only way Secrets… will get more attention is—hang on to your hat—for me to give it more attention.

Here's the plan going forwards. On normal Saturdays, after getting Ailana's Journal done, the next thing I do will be work on Secrets…

Before Crossroads or River City Connections gets worked on, I'll get something done on Secrets Of The World.

This might mean that Crossroads and River City Connections have little (or no) content on Sundays. I'll do as much as time permits, but if the Secrets… storyline is going to be part of AGI, it needs to be more consistently developed.

So that's the plan…

Now, here's this chapter.

Laylana and Natalie spread out all of the collected evidence on the floor of Away 4. Mason and Gavin sat across from them among the many zippered storage bags and all of the contents.

“Don’t open any bags without gloving up,” Demitri said from the table he’d set up as a mini lab. “Don’t know what’s in them… and don’t want to contaminate anything, either.”

“So, standard ops?” Natalie replied.

“I just needed to say it,” Demitri replied. “You guys know what you’re doing. I should keep my mouth shut.”

“Finally, he’s catching on!” Eva teased Demitri from the kitchen area. “Anyone want popcorn? I’m going to microwave some.”

“Absolutely, if you don’t mind.” Demitri left his table and joined Eva.

The popcorn had just finished popping when Laylana saw something that all but paralyzed her. She looked up slowly.

“Who bagged the napkin?”

“Why? What’s wrong?” Ryan said from where he sat on the sofa.

Laylana held up the zipper bag for everyone to see. “Who bagged this?”

Owen answered. “I handed it to Kaori. She bagged it.”

“Tell me you had gloves on…”

“Of course. We both did,” Kaori replied. “Standard evidence protocol.”

Laylana leaned across the pile and handed the bag to Gavin. “Tell me this is what I think it is.”

Gavin and Mason looked at the napkin.

Mason responded first. “Banking numbers.”

Gavin nodded. “It’s a bank number, a routing number, and an amount to send.”

Mason nodded. “Somebody wrote down something they shouldn’t have… and kept it.”

Natalie covered her face with her hands. “Follow the money. This will trigger warrants… subpoenas… We’ve got something here…”

“After raids… missed raids…” Gavin shook his head. “Finally, someone made a mistake we can use.”

Eva tossed the bag of popcorn to Demitri. “I’m calling Cal this minute. Start packing boys… and girls… we’re heading to Langley. We’ve got a delivery to make.”
