GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller
Light at the end of the tunnel metaphor and all that, but… you know… Is it a train coming the other way?
I’m starting early—dressed, caffeinated, and ready to go. Jason and Josh are having a meeting today about ideas for the Route 66 trip (which might be delayed depending on what happens with Emily’s custody situation).
Jason and Josh are meeting here, and Emily wants to (her words) shoulder-surf their screens as they talk about creating articles.
I’m going to the office to work on my own articles, and I hope to hit Meredith Sinclair’s fiction piece, at least for a once-over so I don’t forget what we’ve written so far.
So, I’m starting the day with that routine I said felt sort of nice. Working through the to-do list while sharing life with friends and family.
Of course, family now is a bit of a change! A husband and a sister, both. Plus Dad and Grammy.
Well, let me get going before I get further behind.
If you’ve got any cool things planned for today, leave a comment! See you soon.

TAP CLICK TAP by Ailana Geven Keller
If you were here in the office ten minutes ago, here’s what you would have heard: tap, click, click, tap, tap, click, tap… Yes, I am making progress. That changed.
Jason just checked in to see if I needed anything. He brought me three Oreos wrapped in a napkin just in case.
While he was standing here, I heard a strange conversation outside on the stairs.
Kel (loudly): “Emily… before you go in, did you get my Snap?”
Emily: “Hang on…’ pause “Yeah, hold up.” long pause “I replied.”
Kel: “Got it. Thanks. Check the group Snap, too. Brooks was asking where you were.”
Let me interject. Please notice that instead of Kel telling Emily what he wanted, he had her read her Snap. Then—although he was standing one flight of stairs away—she typed her reply and sent it. Moving on…
Kel: “You need to check your Snaps more.”
Emily: “Gimme a break! I’ve only had a phone for three and a half days.”
Kel: “Yeah, true… I’ll wait for you on the driveway.”
Next, I heard the upstairs door open, close, open again, close again, then footfalls on the stairs.
Emily stuck her head into the office. “Can I walk to the beach with Kel? We’re not going onto the sand.”
“Of course,” I said.
“Don’t forget your phone,” Jason added.
Emily smiled and held it up. “I’m still freaking out that you bought me a brand-new 17! Thank you so much. Bye!”
Boom… She was gone.
Silence replaced chaos and I looked at Jason. “Tell me we can do this, okay?”
“We got it,” Jason replied. “Or it’s got us. Either way, we’re going to make it work.”
MOM MODE by Jasmine Banks
I did not come up with that title. Actually, Emily did. Here’s the story.
No surprise: after the honeymoon and Emily’s arrival, Ailana is behind on work.
Also no surprise: give a teen girl a phone, and within a few days, she’ll make friends. And they will want to hang out.
A little after lunch, Emily came into the AGI office where Ailana was working. She asked about Ailana’s progress. It was sweet, then she got to the point.
“Jenna and Brooks want to hang out. They sort of got sunburned and don’t want to be outside.”
Ailana nodded. “Sensible.”
Then, Emily did what teens sometimes do when they have thought it all out and are trying to make a case for an idea. The issue was trying to reassure the adults and stay inside. There was some understandable unease about girls who had only just met being alone in a home while the adults worked.
“Can they come here, and… maybe we can just hang out in the office? We’ll be quiet.”
Ailana looked around and started to nod. I butted in because I knew how much she had to do.
“Counterproposal…I’ll go up with you to your condo, and I can work in the kitchen while you stay in the living room.
So, that happened. Except the part where I actually worked.
Emily texted the other girls, saying that I was going to be in mom mode and that I was an adult and all that… Plan activated.
I even took the Honda and picked them up. They brought snacks, so we got them set up and then settled down to partake.
Brooks looked around, a little shocked. “Emily, you have your own condo?”
Emily shook her head. “I have my own bedroom. It just happens to be attached to Ailana’s old condo.”
Jenna rolled her eyes. “Same thing, girl! I’m getting serious sleepover vibes!”
Emily looked at me. “Would you stay with us so that could happen… if Ailana says so?”
I was nodding yes before she finished the question.
ME A MODEL? by Vanessa Lenen
David and I are both working a night shift tonight. I had some office work this morning, and then he met me for lunch. Nothing fancy—we went to Dairy Queen.
Now we’re at Arturo Galvan Coastal Park. The topic?
Me modeling for AGI Creative Group… Tomorrow morning. Legitimate daily-rate modeling.
Min, as well. Ailana called me herself, hot on the heels of her honeymoon, to say it would be quick and simple.
She said, “A few outfits in the studio. One street shot. We should be done in time for lunch.”
When they showed me the studio, I mentioned that I modeled for a friend’s cousin the summer before college. It was mostly just messing around so she could practice. She paid us a dollar so there would be a legal release and contract, but that, too, was just her learning the ropes.
“This is crazy,” I said to David as we walked along. “I’m not a model!”
“You look like a model to me,” David said.
“That’s your imagination. And I don’t think that’s the only factor to consider.”
“I would trust the pros. If they think it’s a good idea, then go with it.”
And that made sense to me. So, I suppose it will turn out like it turns out, and I’ll go with the plan…
June marked the beginning of our sixth month together. It’s hard to believe that in less than four weeks, we’ll have been together for half a year. Some days, it seems brand new. Other days, it seems like we’ve been together forever.
Today is one of the forever ones…
I’m really grateful to everyone who’s been on this adventure with me. I look forward to sharing more of the days to come.
See you next time!
Be your best you!

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller
Tonight’s walk after dinner has brought us to the lagoon end of Whiting Street. We’re at a little green space called The Green on South Padre Island.
On display here are propellers from the former aircraft carrier USS Independence (CV-62). The carrier arrived at the Port of Brownsville in 2017 for dismantling.
With me tonight are Josh, Geoni, Kel, Jason, and Emily. The topic?
Kel brought it up. “Emily and I want to ask something.”
“Ask, then,” Josh replied.
The gist of the question was what they can do without asking firstSouth Padre Island isn’t huge, and it is walkable, bike-friendly, and golf-cart-friendly. Plus, there’s the free Island Metro system that loops the island and parts of Port Isabel.
The teens were ahead of the adults on this question. Even Josh and Geoni were caught off guard.
Jason stepped up. “Okay, fair question. A few days in, and I don’t think we’ve thought about it. Can we answer tomorrow?”
Geoni added, “So far, nothing you’ve done has been a problem.”
Kel smiled. “Well, I’ve asked every time. We don’t want to bother you every second of the day.”
Emily’s reply was a little more of a heart-punch. “I don’t want to mess anything up. If you want, I’ll stay at the condo and ask every time.”
Kel nodded. “Same.”
Jason looked at the adults, then at the teens. “Okay, you’re both grounded to your bedrooms until further notice. We’ll slide granola bars and Capri-Suns under the door.”
The adults laughed. The teens rolled their eyes.
A few seconds passed, and then Kel tried to play along. “Jason, I’m not sure you can ground me. I think that’s up to Josh and Geoni. I move for a mistrial!”
Geoni laughed. “Motion granted. New trial set for tomorrow. Court dismissed.”
May you always have time to make the best decision and may your answers be guided by grace and wisdom.
Good night.
