HOME DAY by Emma Vale
Good afternoon, everyone. I’m in the kitchen at our home in Eads. It’s Monday, and I’ve been here all day. Noah went to work at ten this morning, and he’s doing “a twelve,” so he won’t be home until late tonight.
I cleaned the whole house, which sounds more impressive than it really is right now. The kitchen is the only room with actual furniture, and we still have an air mattress in the bedroom. Still, I swept every floor, wiped everything down, and did all the laundry. A mostly empty house gets dirty, too. It just takes less time to clean.
The next thing we want to buy is a bed. Once Noah gets paid and we see where everything stands, we’re going to start looking on Facebook Marketplace. We have my pickup, so getting one home shouldn’t be a problem. We just need to find something clean, sturdy, and priced where we can manage it.
My first paycheck from Southwest Tennessee Community College should come July 31. They pay on the fifteenth and the last day of each month, and since I’ll start after orientation, that should be my first one. I think once both of us are getting paid, things will feel a lot easier. We still won’t buy everything at once, but we’ll have more room to make plans.
That made me think about how much of life happens one step at a time.
Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” (NIV)
That doesn’t mean everything appears the moment I want it. Sometimes God provides through work, patience, good decisions, and the willingness to wait. Right now, we have a home, food, transportation, jobs, and each other. The bed will come. The rest of the furniture will come, too.
For now, I’m going to enjoy this clean, quiet house until Noah gets home. Sharing life with him makes everything worth it..
