FRIDAY IN JULY by Cindi Curtis Allen
I wanted to do a little check-in before the week ends. I am in the kitchen, holding coffee, trying to decide whether this counts as a break or the soft launch of another workday.
This week has been full, but in a good way.
For my Colorado job, I updated part of our internal function library, cleaned up documentation that had been bothering me for too long, and sketched out a star-schema database design for a new customer project. That is the kind of work I like because it feels like making order out of fog. You start with loose needs, messy notes, half-finished questions, and then suddenly there is a structure that can actually hold things.
I also kept working on Roman’s projects. Still at it. Still slightly stunned that I am delegating work to other people instead of trying to do every piece myself at midnight while pretending that is normal.
Roman is putting together a priority list now for the order he wants the apps handled. The big theme is making them more scalable and more universal. Less “this works because one person understands the quirks” and more “this works because the system is strong enough to grow.” Which is funny, because that is also maybe what God is doing with me.
July garden tip, since we are officially in hot Memphis summer: cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes are going strong right now, and herbs are thriving. Pick often, water early, and mulch more than you think you need. Basil especially will reward you if you keep trimming it instead of letting it bolt.
Today’s verse is Galatians 6:9 NIV: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
I needed that this morning.
Because some harvests are tomatoes. Some are clean documentation. Some are a friendship that finally feels safe. Some are the tiny, quiet victories where anxiety does not get to decide the whole day.
Growth is not always dramatic. Sometimes it is just showing up again, watering what matters, and trusting God with what is still underground.
So that is my Friday thought. See you soon.

BED IN A BOX by Emma Vale
Well, folks, I guess I’m at the place where I have to say, “I’ll believe it when I see it.” Me and Noah ordered a bed from Amazon.
I get how the frame will come in a box. I don’t see how they are going to do the mattress, though. Like, there is no way they are shipping a whole queen-size mattress the way I expect to see a mattress.
But the reviews are good, and we looked at a lot of comments, so I guess I’ve got something to learn. I took a screenshot of the Amazon page, too.
So that’s happening soon!
Noah’s getting home in a little while, but I got home from school about an hour ago, so I thought I’d clean out here in the barn a little. Now don’t get the wrong idea about what I mean by clean.
I’m getting stuff like rotten wood and old cardboard and putting it in the garbage can. The dirt and dust are staying put for now.
Carter said he’d get his dad’s backpack leaf blower and come take a shot at some of the big stuff. That will probably make a big difference out here. And send a lot of dust flying out the door!
Speaking of Carter, Jordan called about us going out to dinner tonight, but I told her we’d take a rain check. Once I get my first paycheck, we’ll probably try to do things like that.
I really appreciate her thinking of me. So next time for that, maybe.
That’s all for now, I guess. Thanks for reading my story! See you next time!
