GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller

Appearances can be deceiving. It might look like I’m dressed up for something. Actually, I was just in a hurry, and this was easy to put on fast!

I’m in what will be Izzy's condo unit starting this afternoon—the one Jason and I have shared since we got back from the honeymoon. I’ll miss walking directly out to the patio and backyard, but having Emily in her room just across the kitchen and living room from us is way better.

I came down to make sure we’d left him at least one skillet and a couple of saucepans after all our moving yesterday. All good!

We also made sure both this unit and the third-floor unit have enough linens so they can literally come in and start living. They are bringing some boxes and are having a few things moved, but honestly, they can drop their luggage in their bedrooms and be ready for daily life.

Across the street, Sasha and Clay are all but set up. The deliveries came as scheduled, and they love their new home.I’ll remind everyone that it’s a three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home. It has a nice living room up front with the kitchen and eating area in the middle. In the back is a sitting room or sunporch. Their backyard is tiny, but that’s okay with them.

Mateo—Kel and Emily’s friend who takes care of Dad’s yard and the yard here—is going to add Sasha and Clay to his customer base. He said their yard is almost too small for his lawnmower.

Okay, I said a lot more than I had planned. I went with “put on fast” for a reason. I’m about to go drag my little sister and my husband to the beach for a few hours, and I think that pretty much means Kel will be coming too.

I’ll check in later. See you then.

A COUPLE HOURS by Ailana Geven Keller

I enlisted Jason and Emily to come to the beach with me. Kel came, too.

I wanted to take a couple of hours to stretch my legs, walk, and swim before Izzy and Kent arrive. I changed into my blue bikini, put on enough sunscreen to make Jason happy, and led the march to the sand before I could find another little thing at home that needed doing.

Well, the driver’s-license subject came up over breakfast again. My first reaction was still, “I can’t do this.”

But knowing that Kel and Emily are already studying for their written exams makes it a little harder for me to sit there and act like I’m the one person in the family who can’t get her head around the idea.

So I am officially taking back the “I can’t” part. I’ll work through this like a responsible sister. But, that doesn’t mean I’ve promised anyone I’ll be part of the driving-lesson process!

And, it would also give Emily a legal state ID, which is probably the most practical extra benefit.

So, looking ahead to this afternoon, it won’t be long before Izzy and Kent are here. I am excited about both of them arriving, but having Izzy close means something especially personal to me.

We have been friends for a long time, but most of that friendship has been separated by distance. Whenever modeling jobs put us in the same town, we made sure to hang out. Our friendship grew one day at a time, here and there, over the course of years.

This will be different. We won’t just be visiting, meeting up, or hanging out. We’ll be living in the same area for the first time—for now, the same building.

I’m looking forward to the quick conversations, the unplanned visits, the moments where one of us says, “Come downstairs,” instead of trying to find a good time for a call. I hope living close allows our friendship to become steadier and more stable.

For now, I am going to finish this walk, swim some, and then go home to rinse off the salt and be ready when they arrive.

NOW IT BEGINS by Ailana Geven Keller

It feels surreal to be sitting here with Izzy in what is now Kent’s condo unit. With the handing over of the keys, my longtime friend has become my neighbor.

We’ve never lived near each other, unless you count both of us growing up in Chicagoland. We met when I was 19 and she was 17, during a swimsuit-modeling photo session.

That was in 2016. Since then, we’ve modeled together many times in all kinds of situations. We’ve stayed connected. I’d say we have the kind of closeness that nearly a decade of working together can create.

We’ve vacationed together a few times over the last two years as well.

Now, we’re neighbors. A flight of stairs separates us, not a flight on a jet.

The rest of the AGI people have already been by to welcome them. Of course, Jasmine and Sasha already have a potluck dinner planned. Actually, it will be more like a grazing session that goes on for a couple of hours in the AGI/SwimFit room.

Last thought before I get back to helping Kent and Izzy move in—Emily greeted Izzy by saying she’d read a few of my posts about her. Emily said she was really happy to meet her and looked forward to watching her model with me the next time Naomi sends work our way.

Sasha replied, “Well, about that… I’ll let you know what I know tomorrow. Today, we’re moving new people into the family.”

Family… Honestly, it really does feel like that. And ours just grew by two members.

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller

Given where I’m checking in from, I almost changed the title of this chapter to “IT HAS TO BE DONE.” Remember that Route 66 trip?

Certain things must be done. And if you are going to be part of polite society in the modern world, laundry is among them.

Jason dug in fast this morning and moved two loads through the laundry cycle. One is still sitting in the dryer, waiting to be unloaded.

Now I’m tagging in to start the first of our last two loads in the washing machine. Emily has a load queued up for tomorrow, then we’ll all be caught up.

Tomorrow, I’m getting back to work. Honestly, all of us are. I’ll tell you more about that in the morning, but a lot of keys need to be pressed and shutters released.

We’re also waiting to hear what Sasha learned from Naomi—the news Sasha hinted at earlier.

That’s it for me for today. Since I have room and this feels like the end of a standard day, I’ll use my full standard blessing tonight.

May you grow attentive to the world and the people within it—learning what matters, choosing what is good, and acting where you can. May you become more fully yourself, offering help when it is needed, caring for creation, and leaving each place better than you found it.

Good night.

Be your best you!

A COUPLE HOURS by Ailana Geven Keller. Yep. They will soon be here. A new chapter. And, no offense, but the great driver license acquisition contest is continuing with or without you. I like your point about the ID function. The scarier thing is soon Emily... can drive! Won't that be awesome! Just kidding. Enjoy your dip in the ocean.
