Chapter 3.1.32: SLEEPING IN by Mara Voss

Evan went to bed with an upset stomach and gave orders not to wake him today.

“I’ll call you when I get up,” he said as he kissed me good night.

I’m good with his decision. Sleep in, it is.

We’re in a no-name motel near Port Aransas, Texas. We were planning two nights here, and it looks like we’ll be sticking to the plan.

I already checked messages from Mr. Regent:

Alert Status: No known threats

I guess he doesn’t know about last night's seafood dinner.

Chapter 3.1.33: BACK ON THE TEAM by Hannah Madison

Things move fast sometimes. There I was coming in from work Monday expecting the big brain-drain for the night would be what to have for dinner.

Waiting at Crossroads was Paul, Rebecca, and a man named Nick Fashola. Turns out, the Pay It Forward Society isn’t dead after all.

Rebecca explained a lot of what happened. I got tapped to fill in some additional details. I’ll be talking about the actual people and programs, not the computers.

Officially, Nick works for Alderwick and is now in charge—title pending if needed—of Benevolence Worldwide. Nick disclosed that Alderwick pays him $90,000 a year and covers his housing, transportation, utilities, and food. Benevolence Worldwide is basically the umbrella over four different teams.

Two fall under something called Aux Autres, which handles the longer-term work. The Random Acts Institute is based in Paris and takes on major community projects every couple of months—things like infrastructure that can make a lasting difference.

Justice For All Society is based in Rome and stays in the field more often, mostly working on legal advocacy and social-justice issues where people don’t have much power of their own.

The other two teams fall under Help International, which is built around shorter, recurring missions. That includes us—the Pay It Forward Society in Brooklyn—and Back To Basics Partnership, based in Seoul

Both work on humanitarian and ecological problems, but Back To Basics concentrates more heavily on week-long missions across Asia and nearby regions. Pay It Forward is supposed to combine hands-on work with public awareness, which explains why all of us were expected to post about what we saw and did.

So this isn’t one charity with one little Brooklyn team. It’s an international network with four groups, different specialties, and people working from Paris, Rome, Brooklyn, and Seoul.

We were one piece of a much bigger machine. When part of the computer side shut down, we were one of the two pieces that got stranded.

Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you for helping support AGI Stories. I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.

As of now—middle of July, 2026—between donations here and Instagram monetization, about 75% of the software costs are covered. That's huge, and it is because of you.

Because of your generosity, I am able to keep going.
