GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller

Well, yesterday was a big day. Today… not so much. Just working and doing the routine life thing.

Here’s a fun fact to get you going.

Did you know that two elephants can, in a twenty-four-hour period, eat twice as much food as the largest land mammal on Earth can eat in a whole day?

That’s sort of the place my mind is in right now. I’ll try to do better, but some days are just about getting the job done.

Okay… let me amend that…

The job comes after faith and family. But if all those ducks are in a row and everyone you are responsible for is doing okay, then some days really can be about getting the job done.

I’m rambling, and I sure don’t have the luxury of time to do that, so I’d better get going.

In the meantime, I hope you have a great Thursday morning. See you soon!

CLEAR THE AIR by Mateo Alvarez

I probably have an unhealthy need to be seen as doing the right things. Following rules is important to me.

So here I am at Brooks’s house talking to her father before he goes to work. I caught him as he was about to leave.

“Mr. McKenna, I wanted to apologize for last night.”

He smiled and shook his head. “What?”

“I know the rule is to be gone by eleven. You had to come out and tell me to leave.”

“It wasn’t even five after.”

Brooks had let me pick a movie and probably didn’t care for it. She fell asleep with her legs across my lap. The movie ended at 10:59, and I turned off the TV thinking she’d wake up.

The hall to the bedrooms is behind the sofa. I hadn’t heard anything for a while, and I thought her parents were asleep.

I didn’t know how to wake her up. I hesitated. Honestly, she seemed so peaceful, I just let a little time pass.

Then I heard a door open behind me, and Mr. McKenna came into the room. “Brooks… Wake up, sweetie…”

His voice was solid. Steady.

Brooks stirred and looked at me. “What time is it?”

He answered, “Movie’s over…”

Brooks sat up. He went back to his room. I left in a hurry.

Mr. McKenna looked at his watch and went on. “You know Brooks’s mom and I keep an eye on you when you visit. You’re good kids. She fell asleep. I heard the TV go off, so I figured I’d make sure the door got locked.”

“I appreciate you understanding. I try hard to follow rules.”

He smiled. “I know that. Mateo, I like you. Laura likes you. Brooks likes you. You two aren’t the first young couple this has happened to. Shoot, my parents listened to a song on the oldies station about just that thing. Little Susie fell asleep, too.”

I nodded.

“You’re a good kid. I gotta get going, but all's good as far as I’m concerned.”

“Thank you, sir.”

He left me standing in the driveway feeling more relief than I can recall ever feeling.

LUNCH BREAK by Ailana Geven Keller

I dunno…there’s something different about the mindset of going from the third floor, where I used to live and Kent lives now, down to the ground versus going from the second floor to the ground. I dunno…it just seems a lot more inviting.

I took a lot of heat in my messages over my elephant facts. But it’s true! Moving on…

I’ll spare you more of my amazing trivia.

Back to being on the patio. The confusing first paragraph makes sense to me. Let me give you some backstory.

I used to live on the third floor. After I married Jason, I moved to the ground floor. The patio was just right there! Nice!

Clay and Sasha moved across the street. Jason, Emily, and I moved to the second floor.

Today, one flight of stairs to get to the patio didn’t seem like a big deal. Yet, when I lived all the way up on the third floor, two flights of stairs sort of landed in the “never mind that” zone.

It’s all mindset, right? What we think about something affects how we feel about it. Our attitude is important, right?

Let me move on to a related thought. People often respond not only to what we did, but to what they believe it meant.

Clowns are a perfect example. Seeing a clown can make some people laugh because they believe clowns are funny. Seeing a clown can make other people cry because they believe clowns are scary.

It’s not the clown. It’s the person’s belief about clowns.

You might do something you think is positive with one belief in mind, and another person might interpret it very negatively.

I’ll let you think about that.

As of now, I’m planning to be back for a Good Night chapter, so I’ll see you then!

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller

I literally put on a swimsuit and came to the beach because I couldn’t think of anything else to do for the goodnight chapter.

I’m not kidding. I thought about the bedroom, blankets, walking down the street, and the living room. I suggested Jason take me to Denny’s, but then I backed out of that.

Finally, I grabbed this suit from my drawer and put it on.

Then, I remembered this is one of the SwimFit prototype suits. It’s not designed for wakeboarding per se, but under a properly fitted life vest, the top would stay in place just fine.

This suit is for swimming or active walking. I could jog in it for a while if jogging were something I did.

I’m not kidding. The top is made for comfort and support and the bottoms are designed to stay in place. So this is one of the cuts Micah and Sofia are producing at the SwimFit cut-and-sew factory.

I know I haven’t said much about SwimFit in ages. I’ll end by saying that it’s growing and keeping Sasha, Jasmine, Clay, and Micah pretty busy!

So, with that, I’ll call today finished.

I hope tomorrow is another day of progress for me, you, and everyone else reading this tonight.

May that be so…

Good night.

Be your best you!

LUNCH BREAK by Ailana Geven Keller. I actually enjoy the amazing trivia, but I am confused by the first floor/third floor thing. So, I personally find clowns annoying. And I get that people can misinterpret your words to something you didn't intend. I guess I am not understanding what brought forth this sudden introspection on the meaning of words. At any rate, try and enjoy your lunch break.

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller. Well, um, nothing else is really needed for the goodnight chapter. A beautiful woman walking on a peaceful beach at evening is a lovely way to close a day. The suit looks terrific. Thanks for the photo. I bid you goodnight. 🌙.
