GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller

Today, Jason, Emily, and I are being ambitious. Our goal: The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

We are going to let rush hour pass—as if traffic ever lets up—then head to the museum. We’ll have lunch there and stay for a few more hours after that.

Emily says she’s looking forward to it. “It will be one of those things I can say I did. A world-famous art museum. It might not be exactly the kind of thing I like, but I’m going to be grateful for the chance.”

I think that’s a mature attitude. I know we’ll both learn things, and maybe that’s the point. Sometimes we know something will be a good experience for us, so we do it, even if it’s not exactly to our liking.

After the museum, we’ll find someplace for dinner, then get back to the hotel. We’ll be traveling on Wednesday, so we need to make sure we’re ready to head to the airport.

I’ll check in from the museum with a little travel-style report. Hope you’ll be around!

Also, if you’re keeping score… Yes, this is the same shirt I wore for last-night’s Goodnight chapter!

See you soon.

THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART by Ailana Geven Keller

Jason, Emily, and I are at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It’s actually almost overwhelming.

I promised a travel-style report. Here it is!

The Metropolitan Museum of Art was founded in 1870 by a group of businessmen, financiers, artists, and thinkers who believed Americans deserved a great place to experience art and learn from it. Its first gallery opened in temporary space at 681 Fifth Avenue in 1872, and from there it grew into the enormous museum we know today—one where you could spend a week and still miss entire worlds.

One of my favorite things to tell you about is the Temple of Dendur. It is an actual Egyptian temple from Nubia, completed by 10 B.C. and taken apart block by block in the 1960s so it would not disappear beneath rising water from the Aswan Dam. Egypt later gave it to the United States, and The Met reassembled it block by block inside a gallery overlooking Central Park.

Here is the part I love: the ruler depicted on its walls as an Egyptian pharaoh is really Augustus Caesar, the Roman emperor. He may never even have visited the temple. Apparently, powerful people have been posing for carefully managed images for more than two thousand years. Some things really do stay the same.

Like I said, I could stay here all week and still not see everything. I hope my little report adds something to your day.

We’re about to grab lunch and keep exploring. I’ll check in tonight from the hotel. See you then!

See you soon.

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller

What happened a little while ago is actually a lot more logical than it looks. After dinner, Emily, Jason, and I walked around looking at things more or less randomly until we got back to the hotel.

We started packing, then Jason suggested popcorn and a movie. He headed to the lobby to get microwave popcorn. The soda machine on our floor is out of order, so Emily went up to the next floor. I went for ice.

We all completed our missions, then finished packing everything we wouldn’t need in the morning. All that’s done now, and they are waiting for me to join them for the movie.

Our three nights here in New York City seem to have flown by. We feel like we’ve had a good visit. We know we barely saw anything!

Sasha gave me an update on the modeling job. The way the job is set up, the client really wants the same model for every outfit. In some ways, that’s easier. It just means allowing more time for outfit changes.

Jasmine picked Kaylee to be the model. While Kaylee is modeling, Jasmine will set up the next look. None of it will be studio work, so Clay is driving the RV between locations. While Kaylee is modeling, Jasmine will be setting things up for the next shot. None of it will be studio work, so Clay’s driving the RV. Somehow, I think he’s thrilled by that.

Well, I should go join the rest of my… family…

There’s another word with a new meaning for me. Now, not only do I have all of you who follow me and have become like family, I have Jason and Emily, too.

Thank you for all your support, kind words, wisdom, and encouragement.

Good night.

Be your best you!

GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller. Good morning, Ailana. A ha! Yes! You look terrific in that white! I would venture to say it's one of the most famous museums in the world. I am jealous. Emily, that is a place I would love the chance to visit. I'm glad you appreciate what a tremendous opportunity this is. Like you said, it might not be your exact cup of tea, but it broadens your world having seen at least part of it. Sounds like you have a terrific day planned. Enjoy.

THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART by Ailana Geven Keller. I have read your report twice now, and still think it's pretty good. I still think it amazing the temple was taken apart and then reassembled here. Thanks so much for your post.
