Chapter 3.1.52: ROUTINE SHOPPING by Hannah Madison
Good afternoon. I shall not keep you long today. I just wanted to check in.
Merritt and I are shopping for groceries. He thought it was a good idea to take a picture of me looking awkward. He insists it’s cute.
This is definitely an “in the eye of the beholder” situation.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how my Ruffles Theory applies to things rather than people.I believe some ideas are beginning to take shape, but I’ll wait until I have more time to share them.
Several readers responded to my post by saying that with people, it’s about commitment and loyalty. You decide who you want to spend the rest of your life with, then commit to that. I completely agree.
When you find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, you commit to them.
But I’ll talk about that a lot more one day. As I said, I just wanted to check in.
See you next time.

Chapter 3.1.53: BEACH TIME by Meredith Sinclair
According to Ailana Geven, it would violate the natural order to be this close to South Padre Island’s beaches without enjoying them.
I was slightly surprised when Will agreed.
We’ve spent much more time walking on the sand than wading in the waves. He asked me about all the photography and then wanted me to show him how the photographers had me pose.
“Can I take that picture?” he asked.
I agreed, but I told him not to show it to Caroline. I realize that posting it here creates a rather obvious loophole in my reasoning. A picture of us on the beach together would convince her that we had finally confirmed everything she has been saying about us.
That we are more than just friends is obvious. And Will and I are happy letting things sit like that for now.
He told me all about his meetings with Nick, Paul, and Tom. Will and Tom are going home feeling much more confident about Pay It Forward Society’s future.
“Perhaps,” Will said, “a mission will come up where you and I can go along.”
“Like when you went to Africa,” I said.
So, as our time here in Texas comes to an end, we leave with big ideas about things to come. Ailana and I will get back to adding to Cloudfall, and Pay It Forward Society will get back to its humanitarian and conservation missions.
And I may have made some new friends besides Ailana. Her agent, Naomi, asked for my contact information and said she’d like to keep in touch. Rebecca Charm said that when she gets back to New York—hopefully soon—we could get together from time to time for coffee.
That feels like a really good thing. School will keep me busy in the months to come, but hopefully not so much that I can’t find time to be sociable.
