GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller

Good morning, everyone. I thought I’d check in before I get completely absorbed in the day.

This week has been full, but steady. Yesterday I spent almost an hour chasing a bug in a project for the Denver office, only to discover one little value was being passed to the next function in the wrong format. That is programming sometimes—forty-five minutes of investigation followed by, “Oh. There you are.”

We have something fun coming up this weekend. Hayes and Roman will be in town for a few days, and Jordan has decided that means everyone needs to get together. Apparently, our house has been selected for Saturday. Michael and I are happy to host. We’re keeping it simple, and everybody is bringing something to share, so hopefully nobody spends half the day in the kitchen.

Speaking of the kitchen, the garden has been struggling. It is so hot. We’ve had a lot of days where the feels-like temperature has climbed past 100°F, and the plants know it. I’m watering carefully and trying not to overreact to every wilted leaf. The cucumbers have slowed down, some blossoms are giving up before producing anything, and even the plants still producing look tired.

I suppose there is a lesson hiding out there.

Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” NIV

I like that Paul acknowledges weariness. He does not say faithful people never get tired. He says not to let tired become quitting.

Sometimes doing good feels productive immediately. Other times it feels like watering a tired garden in August and wondering whether anything is happening.

But faithfulness is still faithfulness when the results are slow.

So today I’m going to do the work in front of me, tend what has been entrusted to me, and trust that not every worthwhile thing has to produce something immediately.

I hope you have a wonderful Friday. See you next time!
