Good afternoon, everyone! Our little get-together is going really well, and I have a few pictures from earlier to share.

Everybody started arriving around 11:00 this morning. That turned out to be good timing because it is brutally hot outside. The actual temperature is up in the upper 90s, and the feels-like has been over 100°F. Michael and Roman managed the grill, but otherwise we have spent most of the day inside where the air conditioning is doing something useful.

It has been really good to catch up. We count it as a bit of good fortune that Noah had the day off and that Roman and Hayes happened to be in town at the same time. Getting everybody together sounds simple until you start comparing work schedules.

I do wish I had more time to get to know Emma and Noah. It has been gradual since they moved here, but I really enjoy both of them. They are easy to have around, and there is something sweet about watching two young people build a life together one ordinary decision at a time.

Jordan has been much more consistent about keeping the connections going. She calls Emma a few times most weeks and texts her pretty regularly. Jordan somehow works the social effort into the cracks between work calls and whatever task is next. I admire that because friendships do not maintain themselves just because everyone likes each other.

Emma said school is going well and she likes her job, too. She seems especially happy that her work and classes fit together so naturally. She gets to be around the same campus, learn more about the field she wants to enter, and still have a paycheck coming in. She sounds tired sometimes, but also proud of the direction things are moving.

And, naturally, Jordan is already trying to identify the next day everybody is available.

I admire that, too.

Sometimes somebody has to be the person who says, “Okay, when are we doing this again?”
