Chapter 3.1.55: STILL HERE by Hannah Madison
I think this might be what being an adult is like. Of course, I am an adult. But lately things have felt more like adulthood.
I’m in the common area waiting on Merritt. All good on that front, by the way. After the community breakfast, he went back to change shirts because he backed into Jacob’s pancakes and got syrup on the one he was wearing.
Things here at Crossroads look a lot like a bunch of people sharing life with each other. We still do the community breakfast. We still go to work. We still hang out on weekends or maybe go out in groups.
The most interesting thing of late has been Conner and Olivia. The running joke is that neither of them knows who is on duty and who is just hanging out with the one who is.
I have to admit that I was slightly surprised when they made it obvious they were dating. Merritt found that puzzling.
“I figured that was inevitable a while ago.”
He based his assumption on their compatibility and how much time they spent together. That’s a thing to him. When he and I started dating, he made a point of saying that that was not why he was attracted to me.
They are always vigilant, but I’ve seen them holding hands and sitting at the top of the stairs, arms around each other. Eric seems to think everything is fine.
I did something that is… something. I got Mara Voss’s burner phone number from Olivia. I’ve been reaching out to her to let her know how life here is going. There’s a long-term possibility that Mara and Evan might someday end up back in Brooklyn. I don’t know… I thought connecting was a nice thing.
They are still in Texas. Mara said some days they only travel an hour or so. I guess you know how they do things.
Paul called. The Pay It Forward Society computer systems are still being stubborn. He said Nick is working on a mission for us, despite the faulty tech.
Otherwise, just a bunch of people doing a lot of life. I’ll try not to be away for so long. See you next time.
