GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller

Yesterday turned out to be a great day for the Ryans. Emily gave us a full report of the afternoon before she left.

Geoni texted me around 9:30 p.m.: “This is going to work. She’s scared, but happy.”

Things moved fast, and there are so many things that haven't been covered. Before I head out to church, I thought I’d share a few updates.

Geoni and Josh have been taking Kel and Emily to Island Baptist, where there’s a regular high school youth program. Naturally, they also have Sunday school for all ages, so Aria will have a place designed for kids her age.

We still intend for AGI Creative to make road trips. There’s a tuition-free online public school in Texas called Texas Connections Academy. It isn’t homeschooling—it’s public school online—but their Learning Coach setup for elementary students involves a lot of adult support at home. That makes me think of it as school brought into the house. Don’t quote me on that!

Emily reported that Kel and Emily talked to her about it during Nickelodeon commercials.

“Me and Emily,” Kel said, “do school online, too. All three of us can work together some days. I’ll show you the office later.”

“We have an office?” Aria asked.

Emily said they explained everything to her and she thought it sounded good.

As far as the adoption process goes… Well, it’s a long process.

Kel’s adoption should be final on November 20. There’s normally a six-month residence period before an adoption can be granted, so Aria’s adoption has March 5 penciled in as the finalization date.

What have I left out? If you have logistics questions, let me know and someone can weigh in.

That’s it for me for now. See you later.

Message from AGI-Stories…

Thanks for being part of the adventures! Starting this week, I want to make a lap through all of the characters to find out what they are doing. I feel like a lot of them get mentioned but not often seen.

I've heard from a few of you with questions about certain people. I'll get to those first as I work through everyone.I've said many times… your questions give me ideas and your suggestions let me know you're interested. Please share!

THIS WILL KEEP US BUSY by Kel Ryan

First off, I’m not complaining yet. But Aria woke up brave enough to ask more questions than a US History study guide.

She asked Josh and Geoni about ten thousand questions. They were awesome.

Then, when she and I were waiting—Josh was cleaning up after breakfast; Geoni was getting her shoes—she had some for me.

“When am I supposed to start calling them ‘Mom’ and ‘Dad’? Am I allowed?”

I didn’t know the answer.

“Why do you call them ‘Josh’ and ‘Geoni’?”

I didn’t know what to tell her. That was how they introduced themselves to me, and I just kept saying it.

“How many kids are in my Sunday school class?”

I didn’t know the answer.

“Can I sit beside Emily in the car?”

I got that one. “Sure you can.”

“What’s the house in Chicago like?”

Two for me in a row. “It’s older, but fancy. Once we settle down a little here, I’m sure we’ll go up there. Josh’s parents want to meet you.”

“When did Geoni’s momma die?”

I couldn’t remember. “A few years ago. She didn’t know her father either… just like us.”

It went on like that for however long it took for Josh and Geoni to be ready. But like I said, so far, I’m not complaining.

But low-key, I kinda hope eight-year-olds take naps. I’ll have to ask Google, I guess.

CHOSEN FAMILY by Evelyn Chandler

Good afternoon from South Padre Island. Allen and I had lunch at Cafe On The Beach after church, and now we’re taking the long way back with our shoes in our hands and the Gulf beside us.

I asked him about Aria’s adoption. He said it was on track and everyone was happy.

“You know what strikes me about all of this?” I said. “AGI Creative is starting to look like one enormous chosen family.”

Allen laughed. “That sounds like something Ailana would say.”

“Emily calls you Pops. Kel and Aria are becoming Josh and Geoni’s kids. Sasha has a baby coming in January. Half the time I can’t tell where friendship ends and family starts.”

He was quiet for a few steps.

“I never really thought of it that way,” he said.

I glanced over. “And I love the diversity. Micah and Jasmine are Black. Geoni, Kel, and Aria are mixed. Sasha’s half Korean. No one is comparing bank balances or diploma counts. Nobody had to match anybody else to belong.”

Allen looked toward the water. “That part I do like.”

“Only that part?”

He smiled. “No. I like the whole thing. I guess chosen family fits better than I realized.”

We kept walking barefoot, carrying our shoes and letting the wet sand cool our feet. Allen started naming people almost like he was taking inventory—Ailana and Jason, Clay and Sasha, Josh and Geoni, Emily, Kel, Aria, Jasmine, Micah—and then stopped.

“That’s a pretty good group of people,” he said.

“It really is.”

What I didn’t say was that Allen already has a place in it. Emily calling him Pops says plenty. So does the way people naturally look to him, ask his advice, and save him a seat.

I’m still new to all of this. I’m close enough to see how naturally it works, but not so close that I take it for granted. Maybe that’s why I notice it.

Walking beside Allen today, I found myself wondering whether chosen families keep growing because somebody decides there’s room for one more.

I’m sort of banking on that being true.

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller

I suppose with me wrapped in a blanket in the bedroom, I can say the weekend is about to be over.

I actually feel like the week to come is a new page for us. Maybe a new chapter.

Obviously, Aria in the Ryan family is a big change, but we still have jobs and work to do. We have articles to create, photo sessions to run, and boot camps to host.

Sasha—along with her forthcoming child she’s calling Bump Everett—came over to talk about the coming week.

“I’ve got us booked at the Ryan mansion in Chicago starting Wednesday,” she said. “Just a feeling we were heading that way soon… I told Naomi we’d take care of her session there. For Thursday, I booked a hotel meeting room and a nearby suite to use as a dressing room. We’re going to be in Chicago through the weekend collecting content ideas, so create a new folder in Google Drive.”

I laughed. “When did you come up with this?”

“Bump was unhappy last night. I checked with Geoni after church today. Jasmine and I circled the wagons and got everything lined up.”

“Anything else?”

“Maybe a couple of boot camp models. Not sure yet. Naomi is excited we’ll be so close.”

So, life keeps moving, even as it gets bigger. And if I slow down and think about it, I’d say in this case bigger is better.

May you grow attentive to the world and the people within it—learning what matters, choosing what is good, and acting where you can. May you become more fully yourself, offering help when it is needed, caring for creation, and leaving each place better than you found it.

Good night.

Be your best you!

That's the right definition of AGI creative group...... FAMILY! Aria's asking many questions is pretty normal. Ailana? I think things between your Dad and Evelyn are getting more interesting and smooth. And, there's a lot of work ahead this week.

GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller. Good morning Ailana! It's great news all 3 have school connections that will allow for travel as needed. And great news that everybody has a church home. Very important. I feel a confidence that both processes will eventually be finalized for the Ryans. And they will have a family unit. Inside the greater family unit like Gustavo commented. Thanks for your post and have a great day.

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller. Well, AGI certainly has a busy first week of September. Maybe some of Aria's questions can be answered now. And maybe Geoni will get a photo of Kel and Aria at The Bean while they are in Chicago. Thanks for the good closing words. I bid you goodnight. 🌙.
