Chapter 3.1.67: STICK WITH IT by Hannah Madison
Good morning! The week is going well so far. I’ve had some time at the drafting station, which means I’ve been able to settle into the kind of work where you look up from the screen and discover that forty-five minutes disappeared without asking permission.
I did have one tiny battle earlier.
I was working through part of a support layout when one dimension absolutely refused to land where I wanted it. Every time I placed it, the software snapped to a nearby reference point instead of the one I was actually trying to use. I moved it. It moved back. I zoomed in. Same thing. I zoomed in farther, which apparently demonstrated only that I was now able to watch it annoy me in greater detail.
For several minutes, I was convinced either the drawing or I had developed a personality problem.
Eventually, I stopped trying to force it and started checking the settings. One of the object snaps I normally keep turned off had somehow been enabled, and the program was very faithfully doing exactly what I had told it to do.
Just not what I wanted it to do.
One click fixed the setting. The dimension landed exactly where it belonged, and all that irritation instantly became ridiculous.
I suppose there’s a small life lesson hiding in that.
A good day isn’t necessarily one where nothing goes wrong. A good career won’t be one where every problem is easy. A good life certainly isn’t going to be one where everything behaves exactly the way you expect it to.
Sometimes the whole accomplishment is that you stay with the problem long enough to understand it.
You try something. It doesn’t work. You get annoyed. You check again. You learn something. Then, eventually, you make the one little change that lets everything fall into place.
That seems worth remembering.
Anyway, I have drawings waiting for me, and I’m hoping today’s software and I have agreed to a temporary peace treaty.
I hope your week is going well, too. Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you next time.
