BOUND FOR ATLANTA by Mallory Bennet

Tomorrow, I get a chance. It’s probably a bigger deal to me than it would seem from a totally neutral point of view.

I’m a dental hygienist. I have a good group of patients, and very few complaints. But over the last year or so, the confines of the treatment room have seemed very small. Maybe that’s about to change.

A few years ago, a friend asked me to pose for some images promoting life at a resort apartment complex. That was pretty cool, and the photographer took my name and contact info.

I got a few calls after that for different products.

There were some boutiques and salons…

There was a cool job doing beach chairs…

I had a shoot for an Everglades airboat tour company…

Last fall, I was modeling sandals and crossed paths with a modeling agent, Naomi Prior. We talked about how she could help me expand modeling into a career.

“I want you to go work with someone…” She sent me to Texas, and I took part in a big shoot.

The instructions were mostly about modeling, not posing—getting where you’re supposed to be… wearing what you’re supposed to wear… cooperating… About being a professional doing a job.

Tonight, I’m on my way to Atlanta. It’s a shoot for a beverage company, and it’s big. But Naomi has a couple of the models from Texas booked for the shoot, too, and I’m supposed to meet up with them so they can support me.

I’m not giving up dental hygiene. Yet. But Naomi says if this works out as she expects, the jobs will come more frequently.

Maybe a few months from now, I can be modeling full time. Or at least enough that I can put dental hygiene on hold for a while.

As for today… I need to get to the airport. Atlanta awaits.
