GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller

Good morning and welcome to a travel day. Today will start here at the SPI airport and end at the Ryans’ home in Chicago’s Gold Coast.

I honestly don’t have much to say about today. I think the big adventure will come once we get there.

The Ryans’ home has six bedrooms. On the second floor are the primary suite and two bedrooms. Kel has one and, last time, the Everetts took the other one. That room logically becomes Aria’s.

I’ll skip to the solution without showing the work.

On the third floor, Jason and I will be in one room and Clay and Sasha will be in the other. Jasmine will take the bedroom on the fourth floor.

This leaves out Emily. Before we went to bed last night, the decision was made.

Emily and Aria will share Aria’s room. I’m actually not sure which of the two is more excited, but I’m sure they’ll have plenty of room in the king-size bed they’re going to share.

Otherwise, today is just travel. I’m actually not planning on sharing anything until the goodnight post. I’ll make sure some other people check in, though.

See you later.

RISKY DECISION by Micah Banks

I might be right in the middle of a huge disaster.

Backstory:

Kaylee has been in Atlanta since last night. She’ll be home late tonight.

I talked to Clay about offering the condo unit the Ryans moved out of to Isaac and Kaylee. Kaylee and Isaac have been living in a camper.

Isaac was way beyond excited.

“Can you help me move?” he asked.

“Don’t you want to talk it over with Kaylee first?”

He didn’t hesitate. “It will be a big surprise! I want to have everything set up for her when she gets back tonight.”

“Set up” means the dishes and kitchen stuff are put away and the clothes are hung up. It also means moving Hudson’s toys and crib into his new bedroom.

Definitely something we can knock out in a couple hours.

I trust Isaac knows how Kaylee will react. And in his place, I’d love to be able to surprise Jasmine with an upgrade like this.

I just think… Well, if he’s wrong about Kaylee, this is going to go very badly!

LATE LUNCH by Min Aurora

Let me begin by saying I love being a nurse practitioner. But this little modeling adventure has been pretty fun.

Naomi Prior booked Kaylee, Jasmine, and me to do some work in Atlanta. She also booked someone we met—Mallory Bennett, who lives in Miami—to be part of the shoot, too.

The morning got off to a delayed start because of some cable issues and something a safety inspector didn’t like. Otherwise, it went pretty well—as if I’d know.

Naomi asked Jasmine and Kaylee to make sure Mallory and I didn’t get lost or overwhelmed. They did great.

…little things like reminding us to check with the hairstylist after changing outfits.

We finally got a lunch break, so we decided to grab a picture of our own and share it with you.

Like I said at the beginning, I love being a nurse. But I could be happy taking a little break occasionally to have a day like this. I wonder how long it would take for this to start to feel routine?

I’m going to ask Izzy about that tomorrow.

But I’m definitely going to tell Naomi not to forget my phone number!

MOVING ON by Dan Mercer

I got home earlier than usual—Olivia is coming over for dinner tonight while Jenna and Gabe help Isaac clean a rental unit.

Gabe was sitting outside on the step when I pulled up. “Is Jenna inside?”

He nodded. “Yes, sir. We’re walking down to the job once she changes.”

“Come on in,” I said. “You okay? Jenna told me about what happened at school.”

Gabe shrugged and looked down. “I told my parents I should have made a report last spring when I heard rumors. Dad wasn’t too happy.”

He sat down and I called out to Jenna that I was home and Gabe was in the living room.

“I’m almost changed.”

“Gabe,” I said, “a lot of adults know about things they should report, but don’t. Coworkers slacking on the job… or stealing from the company… Even domestic issues they think might be happening but don’t think it’s their place to report.”

Gabe just nodded.

“Sometimes,” I said, “silence lets wrong things keep happening for adults, too.”

“That don’t make what I did any less wrong.”

“No,” I said, “but you learned a lesson. Move on. Do better next time.”

He nodded again, and really there wasn’t much more to say about that.

But I have to admit that I appreciate him stepping in and stopping the guy. In my job, I also spend a lot of time stopping people trying to do things they shouldn’t. I know what he did comes directly from his sense of right and wrong.

About then, Jenna showed up ready to go clean the rental. To me, it looked like she’d changed from one school outfit into a different one. I’ve learned not to question fashion choices, so I gave her a hug and offered to drive them.

“We’re just going to Opal Condos. Kent is already there,” Jenna said. “Thanks, though.”

They headed out—she paused at the door and looked back with a little smile and wave.

It’s tough watching her grow up. Really.

But she’s made some good friends, and Gabe’s a good kid. So I guess I have to feel lucky about that.

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller

We made it. I can say that I’ve never traveled with an eight-year-old before. She got… tired.

We had some gate changes and a layover long enough for lunch. If I were to summarize, I’d say the more tired she became, the shyer and quieter she became.

I’m just reading vague signs, but I think she got scared that if she said anything, she’d get in trouble, but the uncertainty of “how much farther?” and “how much longer?” wore her down.

Kel picked up on her growing fatigue—enough that he offered to let her ride piggyback.

That made her laugh. “I think I’m too big!”

“Let’s try anyway?”

That lasted long enough to move her about thirty yards. But it was more than long enough to put a smile on her face that didn’t immediately fade.

Of course, Josh and Geoni were patient without faltering. I could tell she didn’t want them to be worried about her, and I could tell that they were. Not in a tragic way. In a natural, caring way.

Once we got the luggage from baggage claim, Josh asked her if she wanted to pull her own bag or ride on his. That also made her laugh, and she decided she’d pull her own. Geoni let her pull a carry-on bag that was a better size for her.

I suppose I’d conclude that the travel was a little more nuanced with Aria along, but nothing about it was a problem. We all made it to the Ryans’ home, and we’re unpacked for the stay.

The current plan is to stay until Tuesday, travel on Wednesday, and be back to SPI that night. We’ll get as many notes and images as possible for future articles and give Aria a chance to meet the rest of her new family.

That’s it for tonight. See you tomorrow.

Good night.

Be your best you!

RISKY DECISION by Micah Banks. Hello Micah. Actually going ahead and moving? I also think that is too big without asking Kaylee first. Surprise her with the offer, then go from there. You want to make sure her voice is included in the decision. Even if they have discussed a sort of upgrading in general terms, fully asking her opinion would be prudent. In my opinion. Let's trust that he knows it will be okay. What else can you do? Thanks for your post.

LATE LUNCH by Min Aurora. Hi Min! It is great to hear from you. Thanks for the group photo. Min, I don't think the modeling would become routine for you. You are a healer first. You just stated how much you love doing that. But. I'm a little confused. You write first that you are a nurse practitioner, then a nurse. Are you an NP who performs nursing duties as needed for the clinic and then elevate duties if needed? I'm unclear. All that aside, I think that is where your heart lies, and modeling is an outlet, a release for you. Is this accurate? Thanks for your post.

MOVING ON by Dan Mercer. Hello, Dan. I think Gabe is a good kid. And I think he appreciated your tone, the unspoken vote of confidence. He waited outside for her to change until you gave him permission to enter. I think that speaks well of him. Yes, they grow up fast. Have a good evening, sir.
