When returning home I had tons of measurements in my pocket and after some further tweaks to optimise the sound for the UBoom X, I would like to show the result here.

I opted to go with 3 different tunings by me, which you will be able to choose from the app among Earfun's own presets.

indoor - this should basically mimic a natural response with bass at the neutral side and only some dynamic adjustments for lower levels. This mode should sound pretty controlled up to maximum volume with very minimal bass reduction and little compression effects.

outdoor - similar to the UBoom L this mode boosts bass and treble and also volume slightly for a more aggressive sound which is always needed outdoors to simulate a similar response you usually get indoors due to room reflections etc. Compression is a bit higher than with indoor which allows for a higher overall volume similiar to the Tribit Stormbox Blast, but with a sound that remains better in balance and with more kick.

insane - this mode takes it to insane levels literally: it boosts bass and treble even more (above Partyobx level) and also enhances the surround effect, at the same time it compresses more at high levels which results in an output which is higher than the Tribit Stormbox Blast, but with more kick to the bass and the sound being still better in balance overall. This mode pushes the limits of the speaker already and there may be some slight distortion hearable with extreme recordings and cranked to the max. I really set the maximum volume to have some further headroom for softer recordings as well.

I still have 1 day to optimise everything and will try to use this time to achieve a result as good as I can manage.

Sorry about the clipping towards the end of the video where I play speakers at higher levels, it was simply too loud and bassy indoors. I will have to do some more outdoor videos once the speaker is running the final firmware.

Hmmm Tribit klingt irgendwie stimmiger auf maximal deine Abstimmung ist ein wenig versteckt hört sich an als ob der Bass alles andere verdeckt

pokketa

good video, I think uboomx indoor mode is slightly darker than other speakers in the video, not sure if that is the true honest treble, you still got one day and let's see if the speaker could be improve even more, keep it up!

DominikReviews

Well, I guess you can see from the measurements that it is close to flat. So what do you expect?

DominikReviews

Also, if you have more bass, it may seem that the sound is tired, you can always use the "less bass" preset in Apple Music or the equalizer from Spotify

pokketa

Yeah, I am kind of too used to treble-boosted speaker, having a close to flat one would be interesting, maybe this is the one neutral bluetooth speaker we could have.

oluvsgadgets

You would be surprised how sparkling “flat” really sounds. The KH80 sound actually “bright” to me. Unfortunately there was no time to set them up and use them as further reference.

I really hope Earfun uses your tunings. Otherwise I already have the Tribit Blast, Partybox 100 and the Go and Play 3. It wouldn't have a place in my arsenal.

oluvsgadgets

It should make all the others obsolete although it cannot reach the bass of the Partybox at maximum volume of course.

UboomX's bass is staying too dominant, hitting too concentrated and heavy somehow, even on indoor mode. Tribit's bass sounds here more wide spread open and smoothly coming and leaving without outstaying it's welcome. Maybe bass on Uboom X needs some cut off? I wonder why it seems flat on measurements? It gets cleaner and more open sounding with surround effect mode, which is the direction it should go in my opinion.

oluvsgadgets

Like noted in the video the bass was definitely too much. There was some hump around 70hz. I reduced this for the final version.

Dominik we understood you're basshead kid, but calling people idiot for having different taste is kindergarten language, which doesn't belong here.

oluvsgadgets

The problem is with the UBoom L everyone complained about too little bass now it’s suddenly too much bass here. It has “BOOM” in its name so people are simply expecting this, therefore although not even taken seriously I added the insane mode. You always also have the default tuning which is basically a completely other speaker and you will have additional EQ for that. And the speaker simply hardly reduces bass up to maximum volume compared to the others, which indoor of course causes droning and resonances. Both Teufel and Tribit start sounding harsh at maximum this is what I wanted to avoid and now it’s too much bass suddenly? WTF?

S. Ayar

Hump around 70hz explains it well. Good luck! Looking forward to final version!

What BT Codecs does the Boom X support? SBC and AAC? Is Stereo Pairing possible? Thinking about ordering 2 right from the beginning :).

oluvsgadgets

I have no idea which codecs are supported, stereo pairing is of course the same as on the UBoom L but I couldn’t try it yet. I should get a second unit soon though.

Lol S. Ayar, didn't said anything about him being idiot, I was just referring to people who complained about the tribit micro 2 because it has too much bass, so the jbl go 4 is "better, more open" so his comment seemed a bit ignorant to me, I didn't call him an idiot, I just said that there are idiots who prefer not to have bass than to have bass, maybe it's a language barrier because I don't know German, I used a translator. I'm not a basshead, but if you call me that i am, Then do what you want to do, I don't care

DominikReviews

I didn't like his statement because he completely ignored the oluv, that it was only an early version and it would be improved further, I don't know what he was listening to it on, but the earfun sounds much more correct, the tribit has some big dip in the 5khz which takes away all the clarity, Moreover, Tribit himself has a boosted mid and upper bass, so I was also surprised that if he likes Tribit, why doesn't he like earfun, earfun is more natural with way better tuning and crossovers

Wau. Partybox 100 is too big, but I love how deep it goes. This looks really promising regarding the deeper bass . Do you think there will be some earl birds Oluv? Thnak you for all your effort.

oluvsgadgets

Yes there will be early bird heavy discounted
