Sorry about the 20 seconds silence at the beginning but I was in a hurry before leaving and didn’t notice it.

After this video I managed to correct for some scratchiness which still occurred with insane mode. It plays cleaner and slightly more powerful now. The muting when maximum volume is reached was already removed by Earfun.

I was using the speaker continuously since yesterday with all kinds of recordings at all levels with all modes and different locations. It’s a completely different experience than having it attached to the PC all the time. After my testing I will need to do some further tweaks for all modes as I am still getting slight issues with particular tracks. Most recordings play fine but heavily mastered tracks can cause the passive radiators to get out of control with sub bass content (similar farting I once demonstrated with the JBL Xtreme when attached to mains). I hope I will manage to cut the bass a bit steeper without compromising extension too much.

I did some further listening against the Partybox at my parents and I noticed that the difference in bass between both becomes even less when placed in some grass. Also in this video I got more bass for the Earfun when listening from the side instead from front. Apparently asphalt reflects bass way more than softer ground. I will take advantage of this effect next time. At maximum volume the Earfun was louder and appeared nearly just as bassy as the Partybox.

What do you think so far?

Steeper roll off would be fine, if can be applied only for higher volumes. Is that possible?

oluvsgadgets

Unfortunately not. There is no dynamic adjustment possible this time which I took advantage of for the UBoom L where I could adjust all settings individually for each volume step. I didn’t manage the same for the UBoom X and so far Earfun couldn’t help me why it’s not working now.

Lukáš Bartošek

That's a shame. Is it an issue for indoor mode or just in those more extreme ones?

oluvsgadgets

If songs have a lot of energy below 40hz this may happen with every mode above 3/4. The passive radiators start to wobble and produce side noises instead of real bass. The low cut filter is not steep enough, I would need to either add another filter on top or adjust the Q factor for a steeper fall off or maybe simply cut it higher with a more gentle roll off. I must do some test and I have found 1 track which so far was most revealing with this problem, so when this is played clean I am sure no other track should show any issues.

I guess it is better to have deeper bass in most cases, especially if this PR resonance is occuring only in the loudest volumes on minority of tracks. Tough call.

oluvsgadgets

I notice that I wasted a lot of useless bass, with indoor mode it plays way deeper than the Partybox with some hearable response below 30hz which becomes farting at high levels. If I could adjust this dynamically somehow it would make things way easier

I imagine the future AI will be involved in defining sound clarity the various sound sources and types of MP3 downloads.. example hearing a DMC or other old disco service mixes from the 80s into a remastered style sound of today . Great speaker tuning this earfun boom on my earfun pro 2 headphones . Definitely on my later in year Christmas shopping list . This summer sucks weather wise in UK and my income is better later in year as overtime is more guaranteed lol

Bruce Letto

Hi Oluv, the Uboom X is really impressive for its size and your tuning really seems to maximize the device given its physical limitations. I am really looking forward to purchasing this one, I think you have a winner here.

pokketa

I think in some of the songs UboomX kills PartyBox 100, but some of the other songs the bass from a partybox is still way more fun, I don't know if Uboomx have the ability the create the "drowning" bass effect but I guess it has it's limit. But I am definitely ordering UboomX for indoor usage and outdoor close-range usage.

oluvsgadgets

Not me unfortunately, it’s Earfun who will get all the praise and glory and well also the revenue of course.

Hats off, incredible job so far. Reminds me of Minirigs slightly and it makes the Jbl sound completely broken in comparison. It is just a bit harsh here at maximum but genuinely weird to hear such a "normal sound" at these volume levels from a speaker of that size, like some micro PA system. One suggestion to Earfun could be to show a little description for the intention and use case for each of your modes in the app (for example that insane is indeed benefiting from ground placement) because kiddies are kiddies. Now two questions, what are the settings for the lights in the app if that's even finished (can you choose one static color?) and just from experience, how is the battery?

Luka Bošnjak

Maby they won't tho, its just an ordinary Chinese boombox without your tuning and reviewers, even tho most of them are utterly dumb and simply paid, should notice that there is something going on with your settings...

Danke! Bin gespannt...

oluvsgadgets

It seems the light controls are still a bit buggy through the app but you can choose static light and static Color or flashing and changing colour and of course simply off.

Math

The partybox 100 has more bass, but on all other regards it sounds bad compared to the Uboom X. I doubt you can get it equally as loud as the PB, as the size and sheer weight just differ so much. I personally prefer a good sounding speaker on every level rather than a speaker that can go a bit louder but compromising audio quality to do so. Wonderful job so far Oluv (and of course, EarFun)

Europhane

The wall behind reflects the bass from the partybox which has a rear bass port, when both are in an open field maybe the bass difference will be less big.

oluvsgadgets

In fact which we will hear in my next video

Domenico Pugliese

the Uboom X is very very impressive considering its size, the Partybox 100 is starting to show its age now, although it's not bad at all and better than a lot of speakers out there. I wonder how the new Club 120 compares tho... as I've heard lot of different opinions on it. Nice content as always mate✨️

oluvsgadgets

From what I heard it should be louder but reducing bass and distorting more. I just watched some of my older 100 vs 110 videos and aside of off axis performance the 110 was not that much better, just boomier

Domenico Pugliese

yeah indeed, and others say it's 2/3dB louder and with more bass overall (expecially deep bass)... I have yet to try it, I'm really curious about what it's really like. I've never seen the 110 as a real upgrade over the 100, as you said bass rendering was simply... not that better ahahaha

Mika Eel

below 30Hz? thats great news :)
