Originally I wanted to wait until I can be really sure that this project can be realised but I wanted to share this news with you anyhow also to know how big the interest will be.

I was in contact with a Chinese OEM manufacturer for some time now and was trying to find a suitable product that I could work on. I should finally receive a first headphone sample soon which I can start tuning and the model shown was the best I could find. NH stands for neutral headphone and it should represent a truly neutral tuning in a headphone based on my own target.

The headphone has a premium built quality but is reduced to the most necessary functions only, thus it’s not equipped with ANC and there won’t be any app, because this would increase development costs a lot. I want to concentrate on pure sound quality and offer the best I can achieve from this particular unit. If I find the result to be worth the effort I will request further samples and check for sample variation and create a better average over all units.

My idea is to offer a fully neutral tuning with a completely flat bass and one with a more inroom like response that you usually get from speakers inside a room which you can select with a button.

I wonder if there are still people interested in a high quality sound headphone without ANC and without all the other gimmickry so popular right now.

I will keep you updated once I received the sample and managed some first results. I want to keep this project small and want to sell the product directly to the end user with no distributor inbetween and I may only really pull the trigger if I am sure that I can sell all produced units without problems.

An easier alternative with less risk would be to offer a custom firmware for the Earfun Wave Pro but so far Earfun didn’t quite show any interest as they obviously prefer selling their units with their own weird sound signature and sales seem decent anyhow…

Ist schon gekauft! Freut mich, dass du die Option hast! Den EaFun Over Ear hab ich eingemottet, grenzt an unbrauchbar... Grüße aus Kärnten 🏔️☀️

Great. Love to have totally neutral headphones. Comfort is also a concern to me.

John

I like the look and don't mind low features at all. My preferred signature would probably be between indoor+ and outdoor+ (not sure till I have a unit and try it out), specially if considering using for movies as well.

My requirements to buy would be: - sound similar to the earfun free pro tuned by you. Much less base would be a problem - are comfortable to wear - have decent build quality - have a good microphone for conferencing - cost not much more than 200€ If the price is above 150€, I would be worried if the battery can not be changed, since I will probably have to throw them away after 5 years. Also, I prefer in-ears because they’re easier to carry around.

Funnily I didn't buy any over-ear headphone after life q30 as I was hoping to see some release with your tuning from Earfun maby, so absolutely interested for this especially if it also feels more premium then those usual Chinese offerings... So what would be some possible target price and, just to make sure, this is a wireless headphone right? And my personal interest for the tuning is as natural/neutral sounding as you can make it

Hartyewh

Sounds great. Would likely buy one.

Toll. Jetzt habe ich meine Patreon Mitgliedschaft gerade gekündigt, weil ich dachte, Du konzentrierst Dich fast nur noch auf Bluetooth Lautsprecher, und jetzt sowas.

It really depends on the price. Also I'm guessing these won't have any sort of feedback system to ensure consistent bass response across different listeners? That's a major hurdle for traditional closed-back headphones and may throw a wrench into your plan of bringing reference sound to the masses. See Sean Olive's presentation from 2022: https://danishsoundcluster.dk/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Olive_DSD_2022.pdf

Richard

Oh my lord heavens. You are a prankster oluv haha.

Richard

The anker q30 don't need any feedback system for me to sound best whatever I compare it to, but I know what you mean. I just want a q30 like signature if not better with more agile drivers.

Chris

I am very interested in if it is an overear headphone with good comfort. The best sound does not help me, if the comfort forces me to put them down after 30 minutes or so.

I am having a big head, and my living area is very humid so I always tend to use effp2 with your tuned than hd600 with your eq. But if this headphone price close to 100 euro, and offer a even better sound that your EQed hd600, I would consider buying one, I wonder how it would shipped though. Edit: Actually if this headphone is going to on sale, I am going to buy it anyway, since I believe in your work, still waiting for the uboomx and maybe this headphone, also how will this headphone be tuned? By a similar DSP software that earfun offered you to tune UboomL and UboomX?

Richard

I haven't changed headphones since you recommended the anker q30. Forever grateful. The anker soundcore LifeTune is a little better and my headphone of choice in case nobody knew. Also get the soulwit cold gel replacement pads if you can, they are exceptional. I wish for a q30 like signature with more definition, LDAC support and nothing ear like 8 band EQ by some chance.

Interesting! I'm always happy to try out a pair of new headphones if what you're getting sounds interesting. Personally, I don't need ANC etc. These are unnecessary gimmicks for me. So the sound is modded directly electronically? This of course makes the headphones cheaper because they don't have to sound naturally neutral or perfect. However, the electronics have to be reliable over a long period of time. It would really be nice if one took into account that european, american, etc. skulls and ears are sometimes significantly larger than those of the average Asian. :) And: Americans in particular would of course be happy about a lot of metal on the headphones, because metal means quality and is always good. For me, metal is enough in the most stressed areas so that nothing can break easily. The chain is only as strong as its weakest link. I don't assume that there will be spare parts for repairs. The battery will for sure be a significant weak link as those Li-Polymer-Batteries tend to weaken and die fast. The design appears to be on-ear headphones. I generally have no problems with this, but I think the majority of headphone wearers may see it differently. :)

Just take my money!! 💵

Mister 13

I don't Know if it is a prototype but i like the way it looks. I would not be asshamed to be out with it. If you keep this project on, i would be excited to hear how you'll tune it.

Michael Böckling

Congratulations, that looks good, unlike the earfun devices. Word of advice: statements of interest are worthless, unless they’re backed by money, because every one wants to be nice to you. But you have a decent chance to make this work I think, just make people pre-pay.

Tom Jansen

I'm interested, but off course based on the price. Is indigo or Kickstarter or any other funding platform not an option? Don't forget to enjoy your holiday 😉

Marcel

Henk Scheerooren

Bold move! You could have a very good idea here. Cognac brown please 😎

Mira Smetana

If wireless and alternative bass heavier eq would be available then count me in.

Marcel

I'd definitely be interested, I also don't need an app but it would be a big advantage if there will be a way users could correct sample variation and/or any remaining individual preferences on their own, so you could offer interested members access to the DSP or at least the PEQ, including the compatible tuning software. Or if the headphone would have an airoha chipset, it would be easy to do with the airoha app, but the 156x are often only sbc+aac so I don't know, maybe newer airoha chipsets support more codecs but it should be checked with the manufacturer if they are still compatible with the airoha app. Is there any HiRes codec support planned?

modernpicasso

Makes sense to focus on core fundamental features first if cost is also a constraint.

Lui Chee Chau

hey Oluv, call me old school or some thing, i surely will want such headphone. just give me good sound, and keep it simple.

Tamás Major

Sounds very tempting to have a headphone neutrally tuned by you, however the differences in our hearings and taste makes me think that some kind of an EQ-App would be still necessary. For example I know that my ear is struggling with high frequencies, and also that I really love many genres to listen to with a bit elevated deep bass. I also know that the music genre and the different recordings are many times influencing my need for EQ. So the basic idea is great, but I would really need some sort of ability to adjust the sound. However ANC is not necessary at all. That's my honest opinion.

Marcus Wendland

I would be hoping that the price point for consumers is favourable against various Sennheiser headphones that might be appealing for some already. I would buy and recommend if this works out. All the very best Mate!

Adrian Mohammed

Adding your eq like you did to the earfun free pro 3 to the earfun wave pro would be legendary. It has made me fall in love with music again! Work your magic bc i am enjoying the free pro 3 immensely! I am spoiled. Now my goal is to get my other headphones to sound like this.

Mika Eel

take my fking money oluv !! :) anything you release i will buy !

KlarkKentThe3rd

I will only buy a closed back when I'm forced to, but good luck.

DTM

Yes, semi-open is the way.
