It's a pain in the ass to get some real improvement, so I had to restart again and again until I finally think I have some decent first result, although in the meantime I did some further small adjustments which should give an even better sound. It's really not easy and meanwhile I think the problem also comes from the stereo enhancing algorithm, which simply changes the perceived response to such a degree that it's hard to compare to the measured response. The measurements do not quite represent the heard sound, therefore I need to do a lot by ear which takes time and just use the measurements only as some rough guide to see if I am still on the right path, but trying to flatten the response just based on some curves leads to false results, depending on where and how I measure I will always get something different. It's also the smallest adjustments in the end which give some improvement and in the end I think I will manage something, although it won't be significant and maybe hardly noticeable to the average joe. Once I have fixed the indoor modes, I will also go out and try to do some improvements for the outdoor modes concentrating on the measured response that I get outdoors without any room. So I still have lots of work but I hope to have something ready within the next week.

Let me know what you think. I will try maybe preparing some quick samples of my later adjustments if I think it's worth it.

Hi Oluv, sorry if you already said it, did you try to measuring it outside as much off the ground on and off-axis? Based on that you are able to get directivity thus find out what can and what cannot be EQed? Thanks

Just started the video and first thing that came to my mind listening to you switch the filters on was "more presence".

Lukáš Bartošek

The pink noise nicely presented how much comb filtering is there. Of course nothing you can do about it, inherited property of all speakers with more drivers (especially tweeters).

With new filters sounds less veiled, more "there", more real. Helsinki sounds more crashy with hi-hats. Something slightly irritating about it when compared to the Uboom X. I don't know if "compressed" is the right word? Lower resolution. New filters sounding really good through here. Like a thin layer being lifted, bringing you a bit closer to the sense of the real life sound. But without ruining the smooth, fluid, cohesive, easygoing nature. Sometimes my Uboom X can sound a little polite and subdued, especially at lower volumes on certain tracks but I will always take this over it sounding slightly too aggressive. This way it always sounds at least pleasant. But it seems the changes you've made will be a nice upgrade. Looking forward to it, Oluv! Thanks for all your efforts :)

So far I'm liking this improvement, I did find the old tuning sounding "nasal-ish" and a bit dark. On some tracks I played when compared to my UBoom L, I somehow find the subdued upper mids was making the overall tune darker.

Hi! I got now the Custom Firmware 0.39 and I noticed that the 0.46 sounds just better, with the 0.39 I hear some artifacts, despite having the Desktop mode. I don t know what s wrong.

pokketa

the 0.39 is known that which is an quite old version, in theory 0.41 wound sound the same to 0.46

There are no sound changes with new versions, they just fixed some bugs, but what exactly changed they don’t say

The difference is big to me. With the correction it comes close to perfection. When I compare my UBoom X to my UBoom L, there is an extra lively clarity I like more on the small Uboom L somehow. Uboom X sometimes felt a bit dark to me. But with this correction it sounds like UBoom X is exactly bettering on that. Very happy to hear this improvement. I wish you luck!

At 15:10 I'd vote to completly retuned it to keeps the digital signal path clean, than layering it on top of existing ones. 🤞

Any chance of custom firmware for just TWS users? I’m on 046 and the only one that doesn’t skip for me is studio but it’s a little too flat especially compared to your other EQs

oluvsgadgets

It’s not quite possible as I would need to pick one mode for that and optimise it, but then it would either have too much or too little bass, be too bright or too muddy for most. So it’s not that simple, and it would need to be a simple setting like studio with no dynamic EQ etc.

Interesting how you eq'd the uboom with the qudelix. Could the same be done with the helsinki? Since the app no longer works. I don't have access to a android phone.
