We will compare a TL and a GG unit of the Charge 6 and also check if there are differences between the 1.8.5.1 and 1.9.9.2 firmware.
The differences between TL and GG units of the Charge 6 are less than expected, as you can see in the measurement below which was done with the most current firmware 1.9.9.2 for both.
And although treble is definitely clearer on the GG unit the biggest difference comes from the update between 1.8.5.1 and 1.9.9.2, as visible below:
Aside of the weird artefacts that were introduced with the recent update JBL apparently also reduced the area around 5-6 khz afterwards as this was definitely way too harsh and needed adjustment to sound acceptable. But despite the reduction JBL's default tuning is still questionable and doesn't show the speaker's full potential. It still needs a custom EQ adjustment to really sound decent. I managed to improved my EQ after having shot this video and I think my final "natural" EQ will sound really good. I took my time to fine adjust every single band instead of just looking at some measurements, as in the end 0.5dB adjustments of the lower bands can have some significant impact on the perceived sound and rather the ratio between all frequencies seems to be more important than the boost of a single area.
As soon as I have finished all my EQs I will post them optimised towards both TL and GG units, although I can immediately state that the GG unit sounds better to me as it has more headroom for treble adjustment over the TL unit.
