Wanted to share some ideas I have for the UBOOM L.

I have sad news, as I just got an answer from Earfun regarding additional tunings:

Is there a possibility to change the tuning without having to change the firmware? That could make it possible for everyone to customize the sound to their own preference a la Free Pro 2? Btw. So far I've only been listening indoor on-axis with indoor mode and the sound is really good imo. If I could change something, I'd probably reduce (lower) treble just a little bit, especially the ~6-10kHz range. It seems to me that there is a small "bump" over the whole range. Above that I love the sparkle and airiness. Thanks for the update and good luck in your negotiations with Earfun :)

You can try with some external Eq app, but at 6khz there is a dip actually. Treble starts to raise above 8khz

Simon Langford

Interesting, good to know. Then I probably mean the 8-10kHz range

oluvsgadgets

My plan was to smoothen treble even more for the “universal” tuning, but it’s always going to be a compromise as all units sound slightly different.

Simon Langford

Yeah I understand, also speaker placement impacts both bass and treble response. So it'll never be perfect for everyone, everywhere. Hence my question if there is a possibility to individually change the tuning

oluvsgadgets

Unfortunately not, except if you use some external EQ app

Richard

Download the app Wavelet. I can not recommend it enough. 😊

This is a demon at a fraction of the price. It is sad, but only a small minority appreciates goat sound and listen to good music in the first place. Most modern productions unbearable. well sad it might be, these happens for food, arts, literature and salon. I often talk to a blind friend about some modern Italian productions and we cannot understand how they can completely destroy natural instruments such as pianos guitars and symbols. It’s as if these people don’t even know how the instruments sound when listened live. Maybe they are just sound engineers, but they never had some real passion for music. This is the only explanation I can find. Or, they must be seriously hearing impaired. Thanks olufs

Cristian Guiducci

Sorry for misspelling but patreon is an accessibility nightmare for the blind

oluvsgadgets

Are you referring to particular productions? I know some Italian artists and like acts like Ridillo for example but I am actually not that familiar with Italian music, but what I know sounded pretty decent. That was also the reason I started my audiophile collection series to have tracks which are really recorded well and balanced. Although I wouldn’t claim that a live performance automatically sounds better than a decent studio recording. I would be interested in doing a test once like recording a small live performance binaurally and compare this to a processed version done in the studio. I am pretty sure the studio version will sound cleaner and more convincing. IMO taking a live performance as reference is not always wanted because usually live performances do not sound that great from the experience I made so far.

Wonder if tiktok a place to try ? Theres seems to be lots earning a living especially live events.

It really shouldn't be necessary for you to offer additional tuning. You are correct in stating you just can't please everyone and as we all know companies make their money by marketing and selling to the kiddies. There is just no real consideration for sound fidelity amongst the masses, loudness or bass is the only real consideration. With that said Ear fun seems to be sending a bit of a mixed message here. On one hand it seemed they had a vision of sound fidelity when asking you to come on board to do the tuning but now complain the device just isn't selling well enough. I'm completely sure that if their goal is to just move units they can offer the more bass and treble heavy tunings on their own as anything else simply is just not Oluv's tuning as the marketing suggests. Audiophiles in general only applies to a minority as it stands and as a group audiophiles are fickle. So no not even amongst audiophiles will you be able to create a tuning that will satisfy everyone. Don't compromise on your vison and don't bucle under the pressure to appeal to the majority. Remember those of us who pay bucks to access you on Patreon do so because we appreciate, value your unique perspective and respect your keen ear for music . In other words keep doing what you do.

Too bad, but it was to be expected. Earfun is under the radar for many as JBL is known to make the hottest speakers. 🙄 I really like the Uboom L and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something useful, but unfortunately many have no demands on the playback and only want something with a well-known name and of course Bass Bass Bass. That can be very frustrating, but there are also people who value this kind of thing, and there should actually be more than 2000 of them. Maybe something serious can be set up with Tribit in the future. With the Stormbox Blast they got a lot of attention in the market.

I also think that you can't please everyone. Yes, in the beginning I was one of those who thought the sound wasn't powerful enough. In the meantime, the two speakers run day and night in stereo mode. I Love IT :-))) When I let my friends hear the sound for the first time, most of them don't share my enthusiasm at first. If you then make direct comparisons and listen to good produced music, the enthusiasm is also high and they have ordered directly. The problem is that most people switch it on, turn it up to full volume and then decide that it doesn't sound right (too little bass, too much treble) without even bothering to listen to it. Oluv, I can only encourage you to continue. And hopefully you can/may/will tune more speakers. I think with your EQ Earfun has a speaker with which they can really stand out from the crowd. I hope that Earfun builds on this and doesn't disappear into insignificance and become one of many cheap suppliers.

I stand by these comments as well. For me I'm really amazed by the high end tuning that is offered and I think the speaker is an amazing value with a high end sound quality. I have a single speaker and really love the balanced sound of it. Sorry to hear there is no open minded thinking about this and offering multiple tunings to get more sales. I just got a second unit while I still could. It would be nice if they could offer a way for you to access the DSP and make different versions yourself. I hope they will make it possible to have multiple presets if were talking for a next version. I think you have done an amazing job with the tuning. The market with so many speakers being offered too is also congested I feel. So it's tricky in a way to get people to pick your speaker with so much choice available. I hope you don't take it personally and know how much we appreciate your work. I am really amazed by the UBOOM L and I use it most of the time, more so then the Vifa because it's so convenient with also great sound quality.

I still think the solution is somewhere else: a parametric EQ app, ideally expandable to 30 or 32 bands, that detects connected Bluetooth devices and automatically activates the preset created for the device. That way you don't have to access the device FW, and you could correct a great many devices whose hardware is good, but the sound tuning is suboptimal. This kind of EQ is known e.g. from Poweramp and other, special EQ apps. The implementation including device detection already works on Android, but unfortunately there are no such apps for IOS. I have been in contact with a co-developer for quite some time. The concept consists of free access to the app, including free preset creation. You could additionally buy pre-made presets for common device models, e.g. for a Soundcore Motion+ or Charge 5 or whatever a "Neutral", "Flat", Bass" -preset etc.. Difference to manufacturer in-app EQs is just 32 band parametric vs. 5 or 10 band graphic. Of course, this would still not be as precise as intervening directly in the DSP (slope, crossover frequency in 2-way systems, etc.), but it would be practicable for many different devices, and not just for a specific one. Unfortunately, the realization for IOS is a question of (much) money, which is why sponsors or co-financiers would have to be found, so the project is postponed again and again.

The problem is that the Earfun UBoom L doesn't have app support, which Earfun does have and should utilize and I dont know why. Imagine if you could use the app for firmware updates or be able to toggle through different tunings such as Flat, Dynamic, Outdoor, Oluv Signature, Indoor/Outdoor Mode, Video Mode. What a pity they said no.

Unrelated, but I also recently an XB33 but it has pretty noticeable intimate relation past 2/3, noticeably more than even my XB30 had, is that normal?
