The author has put a lot of hints foreshadowing the outside world and their technology. Baseball, coffee (the black tea) and canned herring (fish from the sea) that no one from the walls could know about.

Also, (though this is more apparent in dub), Eren's confusion when Ymir references the "monkey" titan during the Bertholdt-Reiner tree conversation! Eren is confused not by the titan's existence but by the word "monkey" itself. There are no monkeys within the walls, the word is unfamiliar to him. Hence why the Beast Titan is referred to as the Beast, and not the Monkey Titan :)
