The moment I saw that avatar bubble I knew we were either going to find the Avatar or what she died sealing so I knew he was evil the whole time. For finding the Avatar: I could see something where her physical body died but her soul or a fragment of it was still encased and given form to speak to Aang.

I think it's finally the general consensus that quality of writing in ATLA just isn't present in ANY of the works after the original series. For all of the (disproportionate) hate Korra gets, I think LoK was also the first time fans started to really take stock in the characters (and frankly, particular writers) who truly made Avatar a powerful show.

Tbh I feel they could have made a story even adapting the comics that focus on finding Zuko's mother, and with greater success. I don't remember if the comics were written before or after Legend of Korra, but it's been long enough since those original comics that they could reimagine/rewrite it to keep the story "novel" for all viewers going in.

I did enjoy the movie, tho I am finding myself agreeing with y'all. It does feel like a missed opportunity to not have had some of the secondary and tertiary characters show up instead of making le shonen epic. The part that in retrospect really bothered me, was that there were too many cheap "call backs". Like, we already did the call back to the fainting guy and the cabbages IN KORRA, and now we're doing it A THIRD TIME? It was a little bit eye roll ESPECIALLY at the end; like it let them avoid writing new dialogue for Toph because she could just say "I'M STILL THE GREATEST EARTH BENDER IN THE WORLD." You're right SungWon, some expansion on the characters would have been nice; although I can understand the constraints within the 1hr40min movie format. Thanks for the review, y'all. Edit: OH YA if you have a nice TV or theatre like set-up (I don't unfortunately) definitely don't skip out on this one it is really amazing looking AND animated. LAST EDITISWEAR: oh for the end part of the review that was the one connecting thread to Korra; the Sky Bison. They were in Korra but we never saw when they found out they weren't extinct.

As someone who both saw the movie and read the book of The Perks of Being a Wallflower as teen, I remember liking the movie more. Charlie narrates the book and is very much written like a teenage boy in it, which even though makes sense, I found to be a little annoying. Not sure you guys would like it. The one thing I can remember the book doing better in my opinion is give closure to the sideplot with Charlie’s sister and her abusive boyfriend. She gets pregnant and Charlie accompanies her to her abortion, and then when they get home they have a heartfelt moment lying to their parents about where they were. This was a deleted scene in the movie; I think you can find it on YouTube. It’s been years since I’ve seen/read this story, but I think I enjoyed it a lot more than you two did. I was in the target demographic when I checked them out, though, to be fair. But I dunno, I didn’t ever really think of Sam as a manic pixie dream girl.

Had to watch the Avatar movie to listen to this. I feel so seen by all of Anne Marie's media opinions. Also I never watched the Perks movie, but I felt exactly the same way about the book. Not worth reading imo.
