Hello Art Nerds!

I left one of my warmups over at Michael's studio last week, which threw me off. I'm so used to scanning & sharing my figure studies immediately after I get home on Wednesdays, it completely slipped my mind to share these after I got the drawing back! (I also had my parents over for the whole week to help me clear out my garage, so things were Not Normal around here.)

We couldn't book a model tonight, though, so luckily I've got last week's forgotten haul to share with you now. :)

Here's the aforementioned forgotten five-minute warmup page!

And the sketch for the final:

I reconnected with my dear old friend Dave Crosland recently, and I told him I'd always been chasing his wonderful use of exaggeration in the human figure. What he's able to pull of is so inspiring!

I'm still many inches' worth of flesh and muscle behind Dave's level, but I was pleased to get a sketch where our model's head is teeny and her feet are sorta ridiculously long.

It didn't translate perfectly to the final page, but I did pull that left foot out like Laffy Taffy, which I enjoyed!

(The first pass of color shapes is always my favorite stage, always where I wish I'd left off...)

Not totally finished, but I really liked the dark greens on this one!

I'm paying more attention to the little post-it note on my lapboard telling me to "look at the shapes the highlights make," and it's paying off...

Love a long weird bloopy foot!

Here's the original if you'd like it! Remember to use DAILYSMILE50 at checkout for your well-earned 50% off, tooooo.

Next week I'll be in San Diego (not for a convention, for a real-actual VACATION?!), but we should be back to regular figure drawing on the 16th! Assuming I don't leave one sheet of paper behind again, and thusly forget to post the whole thing.

See you Friday for dailies! <3

I'm guessing it's not A Proper Thing, but someday I'd love to see a photo of the pose to compare with your drawing.

Excellent knees as well as the wonderful exaggeration! I can definitely see the ways you've pulled and pushed the shape of her.

It honestly bums me out that it would be "improper" to share a photo of the actual pose! Although, comparing my work to Michael's realistic paintings is halfway there: https://www.instagram.com/michaeltdavis.fineart/ He's always sitting a few feet to my left, and this particular session isn't up there yet, but it's a fun comparison!

I'd hoped you'd enjoy those kneeeees!

I say this knowing postage is an issue for me, but would you ever consider selling prints of that first stage colour pass? There is always a striking simplicity that I like in them too. Or selling permission to print once copy? Even if you specifiy what materials can be printed to (or whatever) for a quality/artistic choice? I'm full of ideas, that may all be impractical, or too much work, so no pressure or expectation here. :)

I like them so much, too!! I think processing the kinda-crappy photo to make a decent print would be an issue, though. I just need to get better at STOPPING THERE and making finished work that has that more simple-shapes look to it! Thank you for asking, though! <3

OH! And I just realized you asked for permission - if that photo is high enough resolution on your end to print, you absolutely have my permission to do so!
