Happy Friday, my fellow kids! I'll be on a plane in just a few hours! I'll explain later, but for now...

Woulda been epic, but... we would've burned down the whole lawn.

We made the pile a bit more reasonable (but still a little ridiculous).

A fire in the yard and grilled food and friends is the best way to greet me back home. 💕

I was in New Jersey visiting Bill & Dani, whom some of you may remember from their webcomic All New Issues, which had crossovers with GWS! (It's sadly not available to read online anymore, RIP, but you'll have to trust me that it was a wonderful comic.)

The original art's for sale for my fellow pyromaniacs! (Scroll down for the 50% off coupon code first!)

I came across a pleasant surprise in the garden the other day...

I don't recommend just randomly eating things that look like other things, but I'm super excited that the arugula came back! It's the juiciest & tastiest arugula I've ever had.

Here's the original for that one!

I think I actually did have a cold, but this is still something that happens every spring even though I've had allergies my entire life.

Here's the original that I bet someone will want because I'm sure one of you has a cat with seemingly infinite wisdom but can only communicate it through nonsensical cat sounds.

He's snoring away on my arm as I type this, btw.

Big, rumbly snores. Real cute. My arm's asleep.

A+ communication skills over here.

If you haven't read Fun Home, it's my favorite of Bechdel's books. I've re-read it so many times.

Here's the original art, in case you need a reminder that you're not the only one who's trash at confrontation!

And finally, let me explain why I'll be on a plane in a few hours:

I'm proud to say that I finished all the edits in one day! Now I can have an ACTUAL vacation.

(Btw this also works for the DMV and medical appointments. Bring a book you REALLY look forward to reading, and crack it open when you reach the waiting room. Inevitably you'll be called back for your appointment before you can get two pages in.)

Here's the original art for that one!

Remember to use DAILYSMILE50 at checkout so you can get your thank-you-for-being-my-patron 50% off deal! (These'll be shipped out a bit later than usual since I'll be out on the west coast til next weekend.)

Now I need to do all the pre-travel things I put off til today, like an idiot. Wish me luck!! Have a wonderful weekend!

Luck! Is the approach to San Diego airport still scary? (Been there, for work, once, like 30 years ago 🙂)

Ken Carlile

I so feel the 4/2 strip... it's crippling.

William Cole

I hope New Jersey treated you well! Our weather has beem all over the place lately.

dcorsetto

Yeah that weather last weekend was CRAZY!! I didn't know how to pack for it at all!

dcorsetto

Ah ha ha ha this is good knowledge to carry with me and my sensitive belly today, thank you!! 😅

Pete Jordan

Actually, what was scarier was stopping with a friend in LA after, in Northridge, just after the quake. Their house wasn't exactly *square*…

J. Kevin Carrier

Funny coincidence: I just finished reading FUN HOME yesterday! (Our power was out all day, so I put quite a dent in my "to read" pile) Don't know why I waited so long, it's AMAZING!

Chris Wichtendahl

I was very late to Fun Home, but wow did it exceed the hype. And I'm exactly the same, if you substitute "superheroes" for "cats" as the safe thing I'm not really thinking about.

Andie

Have an amazing trip!

Amy Crook

I wish I spoke cat so I could understand the adorable noises, though sometimes "I am so mad I'm in this carrier" needs no translation lol.

Michael Steamweed

"I think I know what this plant is. I'm-a eat it and find out for sure!" *Peter Falk's voice: "She doesn't die at this time. The plant doesn't kill her. I'm explaining to you because you look nervous."

Douglas Appelt

I've always liked to bring a book with me when going to appointments! Awkward when it was LoTR/HarryPotter/GameOfThrones, but now that I have a Kindle, it. is. So. Easy. to have a book everywhere!

dcorsetto

Ooohh nice I'm glad you had an excuse to just READ all day!! It's such a good one.

Tim Pendergast

Any guesstimate on when the Secret Project will launch? Seems we've been hearing about it for a very long time.

Tim Pendergast

Back in those halcyon days when I had a car, I always kept what I called my emergency book in it for those times when I got stranded, had an appointment , or when I went out to eat alone.

Clinton Johnston

I was like ... "I'm not a gardener, so maybe that's okay ... but don't you need to, like, at least WASH it first?"

Tim Pendergast

Considering how unreliable my vehicles have been, it was more likely I would get stranded than get where I was going. :P The other innovation I came up with was to keep my car and house keys on separate rings so I wouldn't get locked out of my house when I had to drop the car off at the garage! ;)

NJGR

Do you also speak "I have a toy and I'm bringing it toward you, human!" yowls?

Amy Crook

I hear "you could and should be feeding me right meow" more often, heh.

dcorsetto

Neh, I know no one's peeing on it, it's pesticide-free... just pick it and eat it! Like an apple. :)

dcorsetto

If things go as planned, early next year! Which is like two years later than we originally planned. 🙃 I'll keep y'all posted!

Leslie Carter

"Fun Home" is what inspired me to start my own graphic novels! That, plus the naieve idea that it would be faster to draw a story than write it (years later: "I am so wrong!!")

Tim Pendergast

yay! Looking forward to it and the return of Elephant Town!
