Hello and happy Thursday! Michael's been busy preparing for his gallery's 10th anniversary show, which kicked off last weekend, so we've missed a couple of sessions, but we're back on the schedule now!

I love drawing this gal. Five minute warmups first!

For our long pose, I did a practice sketch that I looooooved:

I really focused on the shapes her knees made last night, and was super happy with the result.

Unfortunately I made the legs a bit less vertical on the watercolor paper...

... but I really enjoyed the pushed exaggeration on the face!

Here are some process shots. Guess where I wish I'd stopped!

I overdid the thing I understand the least - the legs. but I liked the top half a bunch. Here's the full scan:

Okay, I still like the way I drew the legs. I love using colored pencil to outline these drawings. Here's the original if you'd like it! It's a bit more than usual because it'll include the prescketh that I love so much. :) Use ARTNERD50 at checkout for your 50% off!

We're onboard to have figure drawing next week, too! So you'll see more from me then. Thanks so much for being here - it always makes the process feel like more than just practice for myself. I love sharing these with y'all. :)

The breasts practically glow. And I can’t stop staring into the shadows- the one her forearm makes on her thigh & that right shoulder just submerged in the darkness created when her face steals all the light it can get. Wow.

These are such thoughtful comments, thank you Melissa!

(I thought I regretted ALL the dark shadows at first, but then realized how much I loved the one on her right shoulder.)

KNEEEES! They are so good, though I was amused that the first two sketches had no knees in them haha. I don't mind the color on the legs this time around, it balances out the lightness in the top half and gives her some midtones. And the shoulders are also so great! Such wonderful exaggeration.

KNEEEESSS!!! Also, I absolutely adore the richness and depth of the shadows. I am definitely going to use it as inspiration next time I pain a bust with a lot of skin (I take a lot of notes from your water color work for painting miniatures).
