Happy Daily Comics Day!

I'm 20 minutes away from leaving for a caricature gig, so I won't be elaborating much on this post! Just comics. I'll owe you garden pics later.

This one is thanks to one of you (forgive me, I lost your name, but you'll know who you are!):

I'm writing comics to you guys all the time. You're often my interviewers. <3

Here's the original for this one if you'd like to buy it! Scroll down for the 50% off coupon!

My friends and I hit all three of the aforementioned gallery shows last weekend and had a blast! This was a pleasant surprise.

I dunno if it's a gay/straight thing, or a generational thing, but half the straight couples we tell this to nod somberly and indicate that we made a good choice. u_u

I should at least share the cool floral arrangements that went along with our artwork at Skull City's "Art in Bloom" show, now that it's been taken down. Check these out! (First one is paired with my watercolor!)

Karli's:

Amanda's:

This one's by one of our new Studio Tour members, Rebecca:

I loved that the intro was this collection made by the kiddos (including Bwudface):

The pink flower is the cow's nose and the two cream ones are its eyes! BRILLIANT.

On a less brilliant note:

I've since been told that I just need a sharper knife and a little bit more patience, and that garlic presses are kinda bullshit.

Here's the original art for all you garlic press haters!

My condolences to all you indoor cat people out there. They're a handful! (Here's the original art!)

I got a cool hand-delivered paper invitation to a neighbor's house with no contact information, just a date and time and an address, and a short description of what the event would be. So I went (I like mysteries!).

I forgot that being wee has its advantages! (Here's the original art!) Don't forget to use DAILYSMILE50 at checkout if you're buying original art!

I'd never heard of Southerners on New Ground before but they seem pretty dope! It felt great to be three blocks away hanging out with a dozen other neighbors I'd never met before. I made a few new friends for sure.

Alright, that's it this time, friends. Wish me luck on my 5-hour long gig! As you may recall, I get loopy after 3 hours of socializing while drawing. Maybe you'll get a comic out of it...

I hope you, too, meet some cool neighbors you didn't already know this weekend!

Cryptid status, coming in through the pet flap.

Get a Zyliss garlic press. You don't even need to peel the garlic first. Just separate the clove, put it in, and squeeze. Garlic puree shoots out of the holes and then when you open it, you pull out the peel.

Kevin Ruderman

Untangling the radio stations looks like bringing order to fibers when you spin yarn. Make your own "spin-A-yarn" story analogy if you feel so inclined.

Jim Avery

Grab the garlic press with one hand and squeeze like you're shaking someone's hand really hard. (In case you were using it exactly as you drew it...)

Laura J Testa-Reyes

I also know a straight couple that live in their own houses and are quite happy with that arrangment. Sometimes you get set in your ways, and want your own space. And those flower arrangments by the plants are amazing. Genius.

David Wright

On the garlic press: if we want mushed-up garlic, we have a ceramic plate with sharp bumps on it. You drag the clove back and forth and then use a little brush to get the mush. It's fine, I guess. It doesn't get used often any more. On the inner monologue, mine is mostly me yelling at other people, mostly imaginary people who have DONE ME WRONG! Maybe this helps me to not yell at actual real people? Maybe I'm just a jerk? Dunno.

Cat

Ohhhh let me know if there's another mutual aid mixer ... You know I'm super down!

sjlxndr

are you recommending the old style or the new? looks like the old ones have a pivot point behind the garlic and you load it from the front. interesting! Seems like the mechanical advantage would be in your favor with that design. not sure about the newer type with the hinge at the end.

David Neale-Lorello

Re inner speech: OMG! Yes, this! (Along with interviews, mine often shows up as courtroom drama. Think maybe I’m a little defensive?)

William Cole

Yeah, I've never found garlic presses to be especially difficult, but I'm also super lazy, so I just get big jars of pre-minced garlic to keep in the fridge.

William Cole

I use a plate like that for grating ginger, and it's great for that!

Jarrod Lombardo (he-him)

I didn't know they had different ones. Mine is ~20 years old and has the hinge at the end.

Hugh Eckert

I often use the interview mode to get to sleep at night.

Andy Ihnatko

I, too, have bought and then abandoned a garlic press! I discovered that whatever time I save with the chopping is lost when I try to clean all those dang holes. Also, I've read that you get more...garlic-ness?...when you cut instead of crush. (Warning: I'm not a foodie by any stretch, which means I tend to believe whatever foodies tell me.)

Andy Ihnatko

I think social media has helped couples understand that if their relationship doesn't track with the kinds they saw when they were growing up (whether in their family/community or on TV/film), that doesn't mean that "you're doing Relationship wrong."

Many garlic presses just plain suck. If you can’t just ram a whole unpeeled clove into it and have garlic smush shoot out the other side, it’s worthless. Really, I usually just smash mine with a pan, but I do have a press I’m happy with, and it was flipping expensive, because the good ones almost always are.

William Cole

I used to have a cute wooden mushroom with a flat bottom that was great for smushing garlics. I want to say it was German & called simply a Knoblauchpilz, but I may be misremembering. (Side of a big knife works well too.)

Sarah

Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson don't live together and I've seen an interview where they were asked if they actually wanted to live together with separate bedrooms and they absolutely not! When they're together they want to be cuddling and then they also want to have their own space

Nancy H

Love the flowers designed to accompany the art!! What a fun and lively idea...

Michael Steamweed

Neighborhood mutual aid mixers are really good ideas.

Monica Gallagher

Now that we have 2 little kitties the chaos is off the charts! I have to tell Gomez to stop biting his sister at least 20 times a day, so I feel you! Also, have a great time caricaturing!

Yfke

The podcast rec was me (I’m Someone)! I’m thrilled that the subject inspired a comic 🤗

dcorsetto

I used both hands and it still didn't do anything! 😅

dcorsetto

Oooh yeah, I have a planer (I think that's the name?!)! I forgot I could use that, too, thanks! I think yelling in your head is a wiser than yelling in the person's face. Good job not being a jerk!

dcorsetto

Oooohhh I didn't consider the absurdity of kittenness you're living in right now!! Wow, good luck!! (Also kitten shits smell HORRENDOUS, I hope you're surviving!)

dcorsetto

That's you!! Thank you for the inspiration!!

MaryAnne Glazar

I love my garlic press! It helps if you cut the clove into 3 or 4 pieces, makes it easier to squeeze the handles. Give the cats time; Josie is 16 and all she wants to do ie eat, get pets, and sleep. No drama. Those flower/picture pairings are lovely.

Minzoku Bokumetsu

I once proposed to Spouse, in response to the "go back to age 6 with all your current memories OR get $10 million" meme, I would take the $10 million (I HATE repeating myself) and get at least another home for friends who need it (we have several) but also possibly buy one of the adjoining townhouses and have that as a pseudo extension to ours so I could have cats and Spouse could have cat-free space (I'd also have space to let them destroy the place while staying indoors, haha)

Tudza

I go for the cut garlic really fine with a knife, but mostly because it's a pain cleaning the garlic press. Smacking the cloves flat with a wide knife and then cutting may or may not be even easier. Speaking of unique names, I ran into a person named Melifera. I had to ask if their family used to be bee keepers.

Dirk Bergstrom

🎼🎵 She came in through the bathroom dog door, Protected by a silver spoon. 🎶

Bailey Doolittle

Did a kid make the flower arrangement in front of the kids art? Or was that by a pro?

Anne-Laure

Hey, could you post the references to the podcast ? It sounds super interesting ! (also I really like the radio stations analogy)

Katelyn Sweigart

Well, now I need to pair flowers with my art on display. I think yours and Amanda's are my favorites for very different reasons.

Rich

Now I really want to know all about your favourite English professor! I love hearing stories about the people who were influential on artistic people whose work I admire.

A.J. Golash

I also don’t live with my partners (which isn’t totally unusual in my friends group) and it really works for me too. I do wish they were in my neighborhood tho, that’s the dream!
