Well, I never removed that "JUST NEON PINK!!" post-it note from my drawing tablet last week, so here's an even hot-pinkier figure drawing for you tonight! I was devoted to JUST using my neon pink gouache (+ a little purple and dark red for some analogous variation) this time, since I was a bit reliant on outside hues in last week's session.

BUT FIRST! Warmups! Of the 5-minute persuasion.

I made two sketches of the long pose for our evening, balancing out and slightly exaggerating the pose on the second one (right):

I also dropped in values & shadows so I could reference them later as the model's grip shifted (which was inevitable, as she boldly grabbed the staff - that's a pro move, and she's a pro!).

I further shifted the pose to make it more stylized in the final drawing:

To clarify, I liked both drawings, and neither one is better than the other. But I always attempt to convey a mood or a motion in these paintings that's suggested (or sometimes, not even suggested!) in the pose in person, so the right one was better for this practice.

I took several in-progress photos, but these two showed the best progression from one level of completion to the next:

And finally, the scan (which I'm still so impressed by, as the warmth of the neon was captured very successfully!):

I approve of that knee on the right! (The model's left knee.)

Super pleased with this one! It was also great to have this model back for the first time in months; things hadn't lined up for us several times, which just made the uhhh art grow fonder, y'know?

The original's for sale in my store here, and as always there's a 50% off discount for you Art Nerd Tier patrons: just use ARTNERD50 at checkout! Thanks for supporting me here and allowing me to keep this practice going!

I like both of the knee bones and how they show up. I'm especially impressed with how that hot neon pink worked with juuuust a little variation to keep it from being overwhelming.

Such good knees! What is this magic pink gouache?

This one is incredible!!! That monochrome pallet really puts the spotlight on the contrast of light and shadow, and her pose made such wonderfully interesting shadows! Ahhh this is so satisfying to look at, those delicate ankles, the excellent knees, that knife-edge of a highlight from her elbows up her forearms... So much good stuff!! The lil detail of her turquoise eyebrows made me giggle out loud in delight
