My old DnD pal Jason (an aasimar bard, glad you asked) came to model for us tonight! I wasn't feeling FULL neon pink for this one, but you'll see that it snuck in there a lot anyway.

Five-minute warm-ups!

And some sketches for our long pose for the eve:

I was trying to remember how I drew Jason's face in his little cameo in Elephant Town, to no avail. I drew his nose COMPLETELY differently in ET.

Maybe I'll bring this page with me as reference next time I draw him.

Anyway, on to the process photos!

I brought five vibrant colored pencils with me, including yellow chartreuse, which - even though I didn't use it - helped steer me toward greenish yellows in the lighter areas. As y'all may remember, I always loathe my reliance on using yellow for light areas - it never looks good!

As always, these process photos are a nice reminder that a) the lighting stinks, and b) the camera pushes the contrast too much, and can't capture that sweet pure neon pink the way my scanner does. Observe:

Voila! And a side-by-side comparison, just for giggles:

The only thing that changed in the scanned version was a finished background and a bit of smoothing out of values in the face. This scanner RULES.

And here are some close-ups, to thrill and delight you!

I was particularly happy with the feet!

Jason's got such great feet! (Danielle the Foot Weirdo returns. Whatever, I can't help having great taste in this appendage.)

Here's the original art for this one if you'd like it! As always, it's 50% off with your Patreon code, ARTNERD50, as a thank-you for contributing toward these sessions. :) Thanks as always for helping out, and for being here so I can share these with you!

Stunning, stunning, stunning as always!

Love it! The pink linework really makes the whole thing pop. And, of course, that upraised knee is so lumpy and good, and the pointy knob on the other one is also excellent. His little cartoon eyes amuse me, though, in the face of all the anatomy!

Amy Crook

oh PS I also have an aasimar bard!

Minzoku Bokumetsu

Haha, I checked out your store and now I think I've been spoiled for Friday Dailies =O

dcorsetto

Hehe thank you! Yeah I've learned that certain models wind up looking strange if I draw their eyes too realistic, so unless they're side-eyeing (which is easy to do a sort of realistic-cartoon hybrid of), they get the dot-eyes! (And aw yay, aasimar bards!!)

dcorsetto

Ooh! Wait, do you mean you read a bunch of old ones on the store? There aren't any spoilers yet, I promise!

The hostess of my original D&D group had a first edition Bard, back when you had to go from Fighter to Thief to get to Bard. Her interpretation of the rules was that she continued to gain HPs as a thief, which was a bit iffy, but see above about her being the host, so she became the world's only bard tank! She passed away 2 years ago after having hosted the group for 40 years and at her wake her husband lovingly placed her various character sheets in the lid of her coffin.

dcorsetto

Forty years!! Sorry for your loss, but what a run, that's incredible. :.) And what a sweet nerdy gesture from her husband!

As much as I enjoyed seeing this, I am not in the $5 tier, I'm in the $2 one 😬. Just flagging in case you want to update the settings!

dcorsetto

Oh!! That's odd, thank you very much for telling me! (I'm glad you saw it anyway, though!) I'll check in on it...

Keep forgetting to ask if Elephant Town is totally shelved? Feels unresolved. Assume publisher issues which is usually the reef long form narrative projects crash on.

dcorsetto

Not at all! I'm just trying to figure out a way to fund it - beginning the second half of the story (we're already halfway through!) is my goal for the end of this year. Stay tuned, I'll get into it in some of the dailies I'm sure. :) Thanks for asking, Ken!

Whooooa that is a mind-blowing difference in the photo vs scanned image!! Those hot pinks absolutely pop in the scan, and barely show up at all in the photo, it's almost as much a contrast as those classic Warhol pop art color prints
