Wednesday night we couldn't nail down a model, so we asked my housemate Ryan to just lend us his face. He probably knew I'd be drawing more than just his face. It became a good wrinkle practice - I'm still a little fuzzy on how clothing wrinkles work.

Since we had a clothed model for the night, I figured (HA!) I'd share this post with all patrons. Usually I add a bunch of little notes to these image posts! But I'm up in Maine at a cabin with no wifi (BLESS), and moving files around (I hand-write those notes on my iPad) is pretty slow-going. So all you get this week is Ryan's mug.

I didn't have a whole lot to add anyway, except that HOO BOY that first warmup sketch of him was a great example of "drawing out the garbage!" Warmup drawings, man, they WORK. THEY WARM YOU UP.

Wow! These are some of your best character studies! The last one with the shading is spectacular! Seriously!

I concur, and will pass that along.

For a second there I thought you had drawn me with my longer beard and fresh haircut.

The brain thrives on periods of excitement and stimulation separated by periods of calm and processing. I wish I'd caught on to this yin/yang thing a lot sooner!

I hope you explained it to him exactly like this, "Drawing you will be good wrinkle practice."

NJGR

My thoughts exactly!

I thought I recognized that guy. His beard has become epic!

Garbage? What garbage? These are *gorgeous*.
