Long pose tonight! We started up with four 5-minute warmups, first...

I don't know if it's the lighting we've had lately (it's been so good!) or just that I'm going right in with watercolor, which is tricky, but I've been having a hard time finishing a lot of these lately!

Here's my first, uhhh proportionately-challenged attempt at our long pose:

Which was interpreted into this for the rest of the night:

I liked the face! It looks a lot like her.

I also liked the hands, even as unfinished as they are, because I felt like the thumb over the left hand gives the pose some sense of grounding that's otherwise missing.

I didn't have a glass of clean water throughout the night - I just kept using the same muddy cup of water - which is sort of a no-no in watercolor. It's the reason her face is so low-key; normally I'd have washed some light layers of barely-tinted water over the not-white-highlights areas in her face, but instead I idiotically dipped my brush into muddy purple water and reached for the yellow.... thus producing a dirty yellow that I tried to fix by going over it with way-too-opaque yellow.

Ah well! That's how ya learn.

I like the sense of shadow in the short poses, and while the 2nd long pose is great, there's something really delightful about the upturned smile face in the one above it, too! Like she's just barely holding back a giggle.

Aw I love that observation! I can't remember what we were talking about in the middle of the session, but we did have her giggling a lot around that time. :)
