I wanted to drop three pages today but uhh there are some topics in this chapter that are a lot more complicated than I expected!! (Shoutout to Jon, again, for helping me!)

You'll see what I mean next week!

Laura J Testa-Reyes

If she knows about the housemate selling weed, and still smoked it around him, then she is more immature then I thought she was.

Dean Reilly

The housemate got deported, I bet.

Tudza

The car has arms!

NJGR

Carms?

Tim Pendergast

I'm guessing either before the first time she lit up around him she asked him if it was OK or he said it was OK. Hard to imagine that neither of those two things happened especially with weed.

Tim Pendergast

I thought I missed some pages, but no.

Bori Vekony

Ugh, this is gonna be a difficult talk, but gotta do it.

Luis Alonso Herrero Scotto

Wealthy parents, and a detachment from how the world is. May I perhaps take a guess that she hasn't suffered bad consequences for minor violations (Like weed smoking)? I feel like it shouldn't be on him to educate these lessons to her, so hopefully, she realizes that she needs to actively try to learn about the struggles of her fiance.

Ruth Merriam

Time to activate the maturation genome sequence.

Sara Testarossa

This reply is supposed to be to Tim's comment in response to Laura's but idk if it's posting right? Possibly! My thought is more along the lines the difference in degree of two possible charges: possession with intent to distribute is a bigger deal than possession (though, of course PoC have historically received longer sentences for either than white folks). Someone else mentioned maybe the roommate got deported, I'd been thinking that the roommate had enough quantity in their shared space that it could look like Berto was also dealing, vs a personal stash. We'll find out the specifics, ofc, but my brain's hamster wheel started turning, reading this page XD

Sara Testarossa

Sounds likely! And I very much agree. I'm disappointed and kinda surprised that she isn't more aware already (I mean, we knew a few chapters back that she'd not gotten it but I'd hoped she would now...). One would think that having been with him a while (I forget how long, i know it's not super long tho), she'd have heard about this kind of issue before. Especially given how casually their friend brought it up.

Tim Pendergast

Could be, but I tend to read things with Chekov's Gun in mind: that the things we're told are important but conversely that things we're aren't told are aren't. ;)
