Apologies to all my friends with gross feet. Meighan's only 19, she hasn't experienced enough gross feet to know how normal it is.

That's the end of Chapter 15! We get to indulge with Miranda next (okay, I get to indulge with Miranda next). And maybe a cat if we're all lucky (if I'm lucky).

He knows the right things to say to her. But, there is nothing wrong with her being 19 and having to think of things like that.

Eeww, feet

These two should NOT be getting married! They need to have many more serious discussions before that happens.

On the one hand, I'm glad at her responses, on the other hand, I am like... She is too young to get married (and maybe he is too? Idk how old he is but if he's a similar age... IDK, humans mature at different rates but even if we didn't consider social factors and lived experience in what contributes to maturity (which we should) our prefrontal cortex doesn't finish developing til our mid twenties so I tend to not be a fan of making major decisions that are supposed to be permanent before then... But also I am not the most romantic of people!).

I would never have guessed that she's 19. I thought she was much older.

I'm gonna come in here and rep the married young crew. I got engaged at 19, and yeah, I (and same age fiancé) still had a LOT of shit to sort out, but we talked lots and grew up together as a team. It was hella tough, but we're 15ish years in now and it's amazing. I'm rooting for the young'uns. <3

Oh thank goodness, it's not just me. I always feel the odd one out in these conversations, having gotten married several months before I turned 21 and he turned 20 a month later. And it's really rough to see a bunch of people pile on and rag on age—we're all different and have different levels of awareness as to what we need and what will work. One can't predict much in life, let alone what directions anyone is going to grow in, regardless of age. We're both 40 now— our 20 year wedding anniversary is tomorrow—and really...at what point do people allegedly solidify their personalities and life goals/trajectories in that it's then "safe" to decide you can make that decision? We've been very fortunate that we've grown together in ways that continue to work, but I can't imagine our relationship is really that different from anyone else's at the end of the day just because we didn't have a certain number of relationships first or wait for the counter to hit a certain age increment before marrying. I'm also rooting for these two and happy to see a younger couple presented in a more nuanced way as they navigate conversations that would be difficult at really any age.

Remember -- it used to be normative, expected, for people to marry as teenagers! We were all expected to just deal with all the issues, and well, most people did, _mostly_ more or less happily. Just because a lot of people wait much longer now -- especially those women who have the chance to make a living other than as wife/mother -- doesn't mean that you have to. And happy anniversary, Amanda & spouse! (Give it another 20 and see how it goes.)

While I think there are few 19 year olds that exist that are ready for marriage, they still exist. I don't see Meighan as being in that category. When she was dismissive of Berto's concerns re: her smoking pot outside (and in my opinion acted a bit petulantly about it) was when I thought this person is not mature enough for marriage.

I was thinking early 30s for them both!

Kabluey Crystal

reading back, there was a comic where she mentioned she'd be 21 when they got married and would be able to drink during the wedding. i forgot all about that.

Andy Ihnatko

KITTY! (Thought I'd tighten up next week's promo for you there)

Guy Serle

I almost got married at the same age, but things didn't work out. For me, it's best it didn't happen as I was far too immature to handle that kind of commitment. Ended up with a job involving lots of travel (eventually world-wide) so that wouldn't have been a good time either. Finally got married at 32 (still immature lol) and have been together for over 30 years

Oh WOW, happy (late!) anniversary Amanda! I'm really happy to hear people repping the married-young crew. I can't relate - I'm 42 and still squicky about marriage for myself - but if the inclusivity movement has taught us anything, it should be that we're all different.
