I don't know how this didn't already happen every single time I've braided it before.

Luke teaches 150 kids a day for like seven hours every weekday, and 19 kids in less than two hours broke me.

But I did finally darn a couple of socks!

They look like trash but they feel SNUG AS A HUG (a foot hug).

I'm a monster.

I'm just waiting for this to happen one night when my housemate Mark is walking through the Art Night room to get a midnight snack.

Screw it, I hadn't bought myself a new pair of sneaks in like, four years.(Also I bought them used on eBay, haaaay!)

I finally found dress shoes last night. I am fully shoed for the next four years.

I'm a lot happier knowing she's just a silly cat with a head fulla marshmallow.

This is how I prepare my tax records every year. You can see a pile of ACTUAL TRASH PAPERS at the bottom of the photo here, meant for Pip to tear up, far away from where Fennel has decided to plop herself.

After being shooed away from the GOOD papers, and uninterested in the trash-papers, Pip finally gave up and sat in a box. All three of them were soaking in the tax preparation joy with me yesterday.

Between my taxes and a week-long trip for the aforementioned wedding of my lil not-baby cousin, I'll be posting Elephant Town a bit later than usual, but I'll explain that on Monday!

Happy Tax Preparation to all of you, hope it's not biting you in the ass right now!!

I had forgotten the fun of doing taxes when self employed. So much paper to chase! I had so many years when all I had was one W2 to file, although I do remember one year when I worked for the local grocery store chain and did a bunch of new store openings and had 4 W2s because they used a bunch of shell companies to hide money!

SO MUCH PAPER, especially because this little town is still so paper-based! We literally have to walk our utility bills to the town hall (which closes at 4). WHOA, that's a wild experience you uh, "got to" live though!

I am also a new soap monster 😂

MaryAnne Glazar

Those are beautifully darned socks! Don't let anybody tell ya different.

Amy Crook

oh no, tax prep =continues to avoid=

Cab

I like doing my taxes as well! Spreading paper around and entering numbers in Excel is kinda relaxing!

I can so relate to the phone/speaker one -- my wife is constantly scolding me for not responding to her texts, and usually the cause is that the "ping" for the text happened downstairs in the kitchen.

I love these comics so much. And the pictures of your cats! (I have to live vicariously b/c spouse and in-laws are all very allergic.) I also did taxes last weekend with all the requisite piles o' paper...but I did them when my kid was out of the house so she wouldn't be "helpy," Pip-style 😁

Tudza

What do you do with a hole in your sock, darn it.

Minzoku Bokumetsu

ahahaha I'm convinced Fennel is related to Trash Panda (the tortie who both ate my compost green beans and got caught THREE TIMES when I was trying to trap the intact cats in my area, despite already being earclipped herself)

Cat

Did you darn them by hand? I bought a tiny loom that I have yet to try but it's cute and it's from instagram so it's gotta work, right?

I was frequently a Special Guest in my nieces’ and nephews’ classrooms, talking about writing, or science, or writing about science. It was fun. BUT always like spending 50 minutes in a room with a floor carpeted with mousetraps. And each mousetrap had a ping pong ball balanced on top of it. And the ceiling fan is spinning. And at any moment, any one of the ping pong balls might wobble onto a trap, trip the spring, send another ball flying, and then a Biblical chaos is unleashed that cannot be bottled or bargained with. As you say, Lord knows how the pros keep control of that room all day every day!

Teachers are unbearably underpaid and underappreciated. Waitaminnit. Don't you have to file by 3/15 because you're self employed? Or do you not have yourself listed as an S-Corp type thing? Hubs consults since his retirement in 2014 and we have to file for business starting 3/15, personal 4/15, then quarterly estimates. It's such bullshit. I love our CPA and I'm a fiend at keeping a spreadsheet neatly organized throughout the year, but loathe year-end paperwork swapout. Our shredder always gets a workout and yes, the cats are very helpful indeed. Cat hair is ubiquitous. It's the perfect seasoning for every meal and the perfect accessory for every outfit. And now, the perfect adornment for every coiffure.

Ursus Ridens

What a great image of the classroom!

dcorsetto

I DID!! And I've darned two sweaters now! I wanna see how your cute-loom does for ya!

dcorsetto

Oh I didn't know S-Corps had to file a month early! But, no, I'm just a sole proprietor, nothing fancy. I do quarterlies, though! Um... most of the time!

Ruth Merriam

I should have commented on your beautiful darning job. Do you have a bobble of some sort to keep the shape, or do you make do with something similarly shaped from around the home?

dcorsetto

Aw thanks!! (I can't tell if y'all are being adorable and sweet to me or if something I did actually WAS any good - it looks like a cute mess to me!) I just used the rounded bottom of a small Ball jar, one of the mini ones, and moved it around to maintain the approximate shape of a heel. :)

Ruth Merriam

As long as it's comfortable on your heel and it holds together, you've done a terrific job. I'd use yarn to do the darning, but you do you. A small hard ball is really good for a heel bobble. Tuck it down into the heel and pin the sock to itself around the opposite side to maintain the shape without stretching. Depending upon the shape you have to fix, sometimes a cooking spoon is just right.

dcorsetto

Ooh pinning the sock around it is clever! Thanks!

Theadora

I see what you did there.

Tudza

I will probably never use such a thing, but I'm intrigued as well.
