Hey hey, the day has come!

The guest comic I drew (written by Brad Guigar) for Dave Kellett's sci-fi comedy DRIVE is publishing starting today! Dave's sharing one page per week every Tuesday, on his Patreon, so I'm going to do the same for most of the story here. (He sliced it up for us to share vertically, so here are the panels a little closer:)

Brad and I are both sharing our pages on Dave's Tuesday schedule until early November, at which point you'll be able to read the rest (in an equally low tier) over on Dave's Patreon, where he hosts all of the "Tales Of" guest comics.

A little about these two: Dave and Brad are old webcomics buddies of mine (the "Webcomics Uncles," as they've been dubbed). Dave's been doing a comic called Sheldon since THE LATE NINETIES, and Brad started Graystone Inn back in 2000. For reference, I started Girls With Slingshots in 2004; Brad and Dave were both inspirations for me to make a regular habit out of posting my comic online.

Since then Dave co-created the comics documentary Stripped and started this sci-fi comic called Drive and Brad has been working on a comic called Evil Inc. (warning: the saucier version of his comic, Evil Inc. After Hours, is advertised at the top of the page, so open at your own risk!).

But what *I* think of when I think of Dave and Brad now is their comics podcast Comic Lab (which I've been on). If you're a nerd for comics and entrepreneurship, their podcast will scratch what itches you. :)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this little extra weekly treat!

PS I originally popped my thumbnail sketches into the end of this, but meant to remove them because I wasn't sure how in-the-weeds-sausage-is-made-y people wanted to get with a single page. Luke suggested I keep them in, so here they are, enjoy!

I like to keep the script on the left, doodle my initial impressions of body language/facial expressions there, and then organize that energy into a preset template on the right so I know what the proportions will be on the final page.

This is so cool! I'm a huge fan of all three artists so this is going to be a special treat for me!

This is great!! Could someone please explain the Copenhagen joke to me?

Ken Carlile

Yay! I got the Drive patreon version of this a few hours ago. :)

I just started reading this comic from the beginning when you first posted about it and I am thoroughly enjoying it!!! It definitely has some Schlock Mercenaries vibes to it, a captain with a good balance between crazy and sensible, who always knows precisely when to be one over the other, a crew made up entirely of misfits and alien creatures that it picks up on every planet or adventure, cool ship designs and creative uses of explaining the science by just "It's always worked like this, why are you asking how and why does it work like this??? You weirdo, you!!"

dcorsetto

OH MY GOD I took the joke literally and assumed Copenhagen the Country had been either repeatedly colonized or repeated defeated in battle! As someone who lives out in the sticks, I should have know what he was referring to. Thank you!!

Hugh Eckert

Nice! I like how you've managed adapt your style to the look of the comic, while being true to both...

Pavel Curtis

For the record, the right level of "in-the-weeds-sausage-is-made-y" is always *more*, never less. 😊

Bailey Doolittle

Oh my god that was also my assumption! I mean, Sweden and Denmark were at war for like 100 years over territory, so...it could also be that?! Lol

Deven

More sausage making please! I really love seeing how other artists work. I write by thumbnailing and am always curious how others do it. It's so cool to see your sketched notes on the script.

Tim Pendergast

Not sure what it says about me but I knew it referred to chewin' tabaccy right off. Although, if it had been me I would have referenced Skoal instead. ;)

Violet

I've been reading Drive since almost the beginning, and I really like how you drew the cast! Especially Skitter's expression in the last panel.

Clairikine

Always here for some in-the-weeds-sausage-is-made!

These pages look great!
