I was too busy with the studio tour last weekend to do dailies Saturday and Sunday mornings, but here are some highlights from the event!

At least like three of you are here on Patreon, so I hope you don't mind me using your faces for this!  Thank you for stopping by!!

My favorite part is ALWAYS younger people. The twin 11-year-olds were AMAZING artists and came all the way from Delaware (for a Harper's Ferry trip; they just happened to hear about the tour and dropped in). The four students from Shepherd were also in the figure drawing session I went to last Thursday. They're all amazing and enjoyable to be around and I can't wait to follow their journeys now that I follow them all on Instagram!

Here's that potato chip bag podcast intro in case you're interested!

Ollie was everyone's lap slut over the weekend, he was really on his game.

I love having empty frames up on the wall. You have the opportunity to think about what you want in it, AND it probably won't get accidentally crunched or dropped, as it would if I stuffed it in a closet "for later."

Imagine waking up to that POTENTIAL!!

Our mayor is the very caricature of a small-town mayor.

(Leslie sorry to shout you out twice in these comics but YOUR BOOK IS GREAT!!)

I thought this was a bad idea but it's turning out okay!! I'll share them all here when the whole thing is done.

Here's a sneak peek:

IT RESEMBLES A CAR!! That's a big accomplishment for me. I'll share some in-progress posts with you Art Nerds in the $5 tier next week!

WILL THIS PROJECT EVER START it is making me INSANE?!!

The first deadline is January 5th, but I still can't start it until my pitch is approved, but also my brain can't start thinking about the second half of Elephant Town until this project starts rolling! I don't want to half-ass it.

So I guess this is my official statement that I'm going to start the second half of Elephant Town in February. I really hope these daily comics keep y'all sated between now and then! If you signed up exclusively for the Elephant Town updates, I won't judge you at all for pausing your membership til then. (And if you bought a year-long membership and feel miffed about the pause in Elephant Town, hit me up if you want a refund for a few months' worth! I can Venmo you or something.)

What's really tough is that I can't show you ANYTHING for the Secret Project until sometime next year. That's such a big ask for a share-all like me! I'll just have to show you whatever I find in between. And anything that doesn't give a lick of the SECRET PROJECT story away...

Hope you have a great Eat Lots Of Food day next week, or whatever you celebrate! If you're not in the States, may you have an Excellent Thursday!

It _does_ resemble a car. It resembles a car so well that I think it captures the essence of -- uh -- Volvo station-wagon-ness (wagonity?).

Corintha Hull

For what it's worth, I totally love the dailies, and everything else you share. This is still a fun place even when Elephant Town is hibernating. It's all good. Thank you for being awesome. I hope you get to make some forward momentum on the secret project soon!

Ken Carlile

That's a good looking car. I did double take because that's definitely NOT a white '94 850, though. 😁

David Neale-Lorello

With all appropriate respect and compassion, I find it really funny that you think drawing cars is hard. Not because I'm good at it (my drawing is untutored and shaky at its best), but because you're so good at drawing humans and HUMANS ARE REALLY HARD TO DRAW!!! Thinking about it, maybe it's for similar reasons: humans are hard to draw because we look at them all the time and notice great nuances about them, so maybe looking at cars all the time means we (or at least you, with your highly trained eye) notice small inconsistencies. In any case, love the Volvo and I'm certain your dad will love your gift!

Dave Van Domelen

Awesome car. Yeah, it's not "airbrushed car ad from the 1970s" style, but somehow despite all the slightly wobbly lines it feels like I'm looking at a real car, not a cartoon or caricature of one. Maybe it feels like a touch of parking lot heat shimmer?

Tudza

Listen, do you want to know a secret ( project ), do you promise not to tell...

kaitou

Just be glad it's not a car with an occupied bike rack.

Jon Spriggs

I really love the idea of the open-house tour thingy, and I love the fact you had people come and say they're been reading for a long time. I remember reading GWS when I first discovered RSS readers and web comics, sometime in the mid 2000's, back when Google Reader was a thing. Sadly I live in the UK and I don't know when I'd ever get to come to the US again, and if I did, I'd be bringing a family along so it would be to the big name places, no-matter how awesome --Elephant-- Shepard Town seems from your comics and descriptions. Oh, and the car picture is awesome!

Allison Matthas

Wait wait Wait wait. Two strikes?! I'm in the film industry! Does this have to do with a film?!!!!!

dcorsetto

Hibernating! I like that. It'll come back when the crocuses peek out of the earth. ;)

dcorsetto

Hah! Yeah, this guy had THREE different Volvos! We were a big Volvo family back in the day.

Ken Carlile

Volvos are good cars. I've only had one, a '94 850. Dark green, wagon. I haven't chosen to afford another one (this one was pretty used, and it probably cost us as much in repairs as it would have to buy a new one).

dcorsetto

Yeah I TOTALLY threw all my points into drawing humans!! And YES, COMPLETELY, that's exactly why humans are so hard - we notice the slightest gesture, forced smile, CGI falseness... if it's a little off in a drawing, we wonder if the character is hiding something. Meanwhile, cars are boxes with wheels and a face and that's all I understand about them. :p

dcorsetto

This one in particular was referenced from an old 80s photo of our actual wagon, so I think there's a little bit of "80s 35mm film" essence in there, too!

dcorsetto

Man thank GOD he's not a BIKE person.

dcorsetto

One of these days I'll be back out in the UK, for what that's worth! I just wish I could bring Shepherdstown with me...

Matthew Welmers

I'm excited for the (secret project) but also think that supporting creators isn't intended to be transactional! Reminds me of this tweet: https://pin.it/65bD9nE

Glenn Fitzpatrick

Aw, there we are! Katie laughed that all of the other cells are about your art or your house or your cats and we’re so random. 😂

David Neale-Lorello

My Uncanny Valley is relatively wide, I think; like, my brother keeps sending me AI videos of some movie or story done in Wes Anderson style and they’re really realistic but SO CREEPY! Again, I think that’s another reason I love your work: you capture that perfect balance between caricature and realism.

Clinton Johnston

These dailies have quickly become a high point in my week.

Leak

Probably metal workers and train drivers... No, wait - that's from around here...

Underpants and Overbites

Ahh! That Volvo painting is amazing. I had a blue one just like it named Captain Sprinkles. God rest him wheels.

dcorsetto

That means a lot! <3 Thanks, Clinton!

dcorsetto

Ahahaha true!! My brother (a musician and tech nerd) pointed at the panel with you two and asked me "THAT'S a $100,000 speaker?!" thinking the phone was a speaker!

Leslie Carter

I'm completely jazzed for the shout-outs in your Dailies (especially since I figured out how to reset my ET password)! :))

dcorsetto

AHHH you found your way back in!! Yay!!

Theadora

I also want to confirm that the dailies are absolutely worth my membership!

Naufragous Kat

I *love* that car painting. I love old Volvos. But holy crap, MARBLE MADNESS IS MY JAM (and I *almost* actually beat it once, but fell just short and never got that close again).

dcorsetto

WHAAAAAT that is fuckin ADMIRABLE!! (and THANK YOU, I love old Volvos too!)
