This first one is a two-parter:

In reality, this took much longer to figure out. I don't know how to describe the mix of comedy and panic that simultaneously filled my brain during these stressful ten minutes of not knowing where tf my car was.

Those cocktails were strong, tho.

This week I've been tearing apart my old standing desk setup to move my computer into the corner in the hopes that it'll help my back & shoulder to work with my arms out to the sides, instead of directly in front of me (IT DOES, hallelujah). So it went from this:

to this:

but also to this:

Those boxes of GWS compendiums are really pulling through for me.

I'm gonna suffer through it for awhile and ask my dad to help me plan out a whole counter... situation for this, over Christmas. I've been working on slabs of wood for a couple of years now, and it'd be nice not to have the edge of the wood indenting my wrists every time i type.

I also found my very first iPhone (I won it in a contest!), which I tend to hide just for the purpose of finding it again the next time I clean. It's a nice Past Danielle gesture every time.

Don't worry, everyone's in therapy.

A piece of brie cheese fell into the glitter, so we hung that up, too.

Let's not overlook the super cute Mario Bros Invincible Star that Jon made, though (NSFW-ish):

After talking about my special photograph-drawings, he told a story about how their company got to use Meow Wolf's hot air balloon last year for a hot air balloon show, because the corporate sponsor who was supposed to use it didn't show up, so they just passed it along to his little financial planning company from West Virginia. "I have no idea what Meow Wolf is," he said.

Have a good weekend and keep track of where your car's parked, everyone. <3

Brie on the tree beats Elf on the Shelf every time! We could never do that because the ornament would disappear and there would be glitter shits in the litterbox. ;-)

So, were the first two strips basically "Life imitating 'Hazel's car getting `stolen`'"? :D (Dang, I was starting to run out of different quote styles here for that much indirection...)

For the longest time I was using a stack of books or a box to lift my monitors. It may not have looked awesome but it worked and I liked the recycling aspect of it. Eventually I built a simple custom shelf and it sure is nice to have the additional storage space. Oh, hey, I didn't realize Meow Wolf had a hot air balloon. I guess it makes sense with the Albuquerque Balloon Festival being so close to their Santa Fe home base.

My solution to sharp desk edges has been to get those baby-proofing foam bumpers. Just the right thickness to also act as wrist rests, too. (I sit at my desks, and ended up putting the bumpers on the legs of the desks too after one too many "knee meets sharp corner" incidents.)

I can totally feel the panic with the missing car, this is so, so relatable. I also have very little brainspace allocated to minding possessions. The christmas ornaments! Hilarious and perfect!

Jim Avery

I appreciate the cat helping you make the bed. Can relate.

NJGR

Didn't you do another daily where you were going up and down, walking and via car, and did that once before? (Not to this extent, I don't think. But you had to walk back down to get your car?) Also, can I introduce you to split keyboards, if you aren't already familiar? This is the keyboard I have, and I cannot live without the damn thing: https://kinesis-ergo.com/keyboards/freestyle2-keyboard/ Annnnnnd, I have a sit/stand desk that I absolutely freaking love, because it's so customizable. I won't advertise for that one here since I already gushed about the keyboard (seriously, split keyboard), but let me know if you are interested in more info. :) -jess (probably obviously :D )

Ursus Ridens

Luring victims for the cats...? Nah. a mouse would never get that far.

Ursus Ridens

Exactly what I (and I'm sure many others) immediately thought!

dcorsetto

I *DEFINITELY* thought about that story arc IMMEDIATELY!!

Ursus Ridens

I have to say, if that is an artist's workshop depicted in those photos, it's _frighteningly_ neat.

dcorsetto

Hahaha yes, and someone here just bought the original of that because her partner seems to have the same problem! In that case, it was just my keys (MULTIPLE TIMES), but yeah, i did the exact same thing where I just walked home without my car, because I NEVER drive in this town, so it feels ridiculous to think about getting in my car when I'm within walking distance! THANK YOU for the split keyboard link! I've been thinking about it. I'm thinking about it right now as I type, in fact. I am FULLY interested in the standing desk, even though this area isn't sittable so it probably won't apply to me. I'm trying to get ideas for how to make it myself, though! Thank you Jess!!

Ursus Ridens

And on quite another topic...If you go to etsy.com and search for 'Danielle Corsetto', it will recognize the name as you type...but will lead not to Danielle's shop, but to illustrations of a great many corsets, 'cause her shop "is taking a short break". Alas, even with the, um, charmingly modeled illustrations.

dcorsetto

Oh that's AFTER cleaning. And only one side. *peers over shoulder at the mess of items on the drawing board*

dcorsetto

Oohhh interesting! I didn't know that, thanks for telling me.

Ursus Ridens

She knows how to frame the photo.

Since I've had lots of anxiety dreams (nightmares?) About my car being stolen/misplaced, I'm a proponent of getting a Tile and chucking it somewhere in there so I at least have a sense of where it is when I'm awake.

Tudza

I was going to suggest that you have woodworking skills equal to the task of making a better monitor stand, but then I saw the plans are for a whole new counter.

Tudza

I still have my old iPhone that looks just like that one. Apple panicked when it saw it and locked stuff down. Did I have to load some weird ancient OS on it to make it work and that's really why? Can't remember. Better stick to the 6s I bought just to run my Apple watch that I converted to a pocket watch.

David Neale-Lorello

OMG, I was just talking about Meow Wolf the other day! Took me years to get there, despite being a New Mexico expat. I so want to get to their installation in Denver (I think?). Didn't know they had a balloon!

Amy Crook

I really appreciate "now it's shitty in a better way" as a life choice. <3

Tim Pendergast

I have to admit I chuckled at little at you straining moving your monitor until I realized it was one of those "everything in packed into the monitor" dealies. Those things can be so heavy and awkward!

Tim Pendergast

One of my recurring nightmares is of me driving my car somewhere and leaving it to set off on foot for no good reason. No sure what it might mean.

Tim Pendergast

I like seeing your computer on top of a case of GWS books. It makes me feel better about my place being filled with so many Diamond Comics shipping boxes collected from 30 odd years working in a comic store.

Minzoku Bokumetsu

Friend had the SAME "Where's my car??" moment, but only remembered after calling the police that he had driven it to a restaurant, then walked home... and also forgot to tell the police when he found it. (Also, unfortunately, I know where my car is... in an insurance impound lot to have its damage assessed. :..) Think I'm getting a new car...)

Andy Ihnatko

The car drama reminds me of SO many similar incidents. You're relieved that there's no harm done. Then you wonder which is worse: losing the thing permanently and not knowing what happened to it, maybe it got stolen? Or getting the thing back and having proof of exactly how dumb/careless/distracted you can get at times?

Andy Ihnatko

Re: "working on slabs of wood" -- consider just upgrading the slabs of wood? I was facing a similar challenge and wound up removing the pine boards that had been serving as shelves and worktops and replacing them 1:1 with butcher block. You can get them in almost identical dimensions. The edges are nicely rounded off. They arrive unfinished, but after a few days of repeated sanding and coats of polyurethane they look like a million.

Jeff Brown

Have you tried setting up your keyboard at a negative angle (tilted downwards)? Not resting my wrists on the desk made a big difference in my carpal tunnel pain though it felt a little strange at first. It sure feels good to improve a workspace, doesn’t it?

pfreya

“Have a good weekend and keep track of where your car's parked, everyone. <3” is the younger sibling of Red Green’s “Keep your stick on the ice,” and I’m very here for it :p Glad you solved the mystery, and may the Tree Brie ever glitter!

NJGR

I will never go back to a regular keyboard again. I credit mine with alleviating my wrist pain. They have different styles based on hand-position preference, too, but I have that basic one. For the desk, the company I got mine from sells parts, too, so if you wanted to create the desk and just get a motor for sit/stand, that's an option, too. I got the whole system, one with a curved front to be more comfortable when I'm working 8 hours a day. https://www.upliftdesk.com/desktops-and-parts/

Boum

Lost it at the brie

dcorsetto

Oh I actually am going to make the monitor stand myself! It'll be easy. :) But I'm looking forward to having my dad saw up the pieces on his table saw, because hand-sawing everything is a BITCH.

dcorsetto

Yeah, mostly awkward! It's probably 30 pounds? It sure feels like it, anyway, with no real solid place to put your hands!

dcorsetto

Oh shiiiiiit sorry about your car!!

dcorsetto

That may well be the direction I go! Not butcher block - I think it'd be TOO thick - but a double layer of a more solid wood. And then sanding. It sure would be nice to have it painted or laminated, too, though.

dcorsetto

THAT is super interesting and I'd never heard of it before! Thanks!
