Happy in-between-Christmas-and-New-Year's! I got home from Christmas visits last night, hence, Saturday dailies for you. :)

There's a 2,000% increase in the time it takes to run errands if those errands are in town a few days before Christmas.

Whoever LEFT A GIFT CARD at Dogwood General Store for me, THANK YOU!!! That knocked me off my feet!! (If you're local and you've never been, Dogwood is too charming to handle and Mary is the sweetest person alive.)

I can bite my tongue & let it go with strangers, but I can't help my facial expressions.

(If this comic doesn't make sense, read this article by Mignon Fogarty, aka Grammar Girl! In short, never apostrophize a name. Just add an -s or -es. For example, my family would be The Corsettos, not The Corsetto's. Luke's would be The Harteises. More than one Mary would be Marys, not Maries! English is weird.)

Here's the real reason I'm posting my dailies a day late this week:

I don't have the heart to put those skeletons away. Look at how much fun they're having.

If you happen to have our missing copy of Charlie Brown Christmas, I beg you to let me know!! Only 361 days before we go through this disappointment again!

Despite pushing our plans back a couple days, Sick Christmas wasn't all bad...

Thanks to all of our experience with covid, my friends knew exactly how to make my day without risking contamination. <3

All I could think of for Christmas gifts from Luke was pots for all my plant babies, but I didn't actually expect him to MAKE me pots!! Here's a terrible photo of them, they are actually LOVELY:

(And a Weakerthans album!)

I also mentioned at some point that I can't believe I don't have any of those old Garfield collections that i used to check out at my elementary school library over and over again, and how frustrated I was that there didn't seem to be a published script for the original Ghostbusters movie (my all-time favorite), so:

(That's a print-to-order bound copy of the script, and the novel based on GB that I've never read!)

In short, Luke is very good at gifts.

I didn't get him anything special - a couple records, a pair of baoding balls - but I did get him a strangely similar main gift, which was:

Fake plants for his classroom, so he can enjoy the ambiance of greenery without it quickly turning to brownery.

I left my daily comics binder at home, so there are only a few comics this week (I've gotten much better at taking time off from "work!"), but for those wondering, I DID get to give my dad his belated birthday gift!

I'll post more about it later. But, yes, he loved it, and no, I am not switching careers to drawing cars full-time.

Happy Last Day of 2023 to y'all, and I hope you have a fun/safe/completely dead asleep New Year's Eve!!

You should play Ghostbusters: The Videogame! The realistic version (PC/XBox) is actually considered to be the third movie by Bill Murray and the rest of the writing team!

Rob

It’s a fantasy of mine to live somewhere where errands take 2000 times longer because I keep running into people I know.

My son (8) discovered Garfield this fall and has been checking out collections every week. Fun to see when my favourite cartoonists are fans too-Jeph Jacques even referenced mailing Nermal the other day :-)

Tim Pendergast

Nice to know you're DVD people too! I feel a little less lonely now.

kaitou

You'll probably get your CB Christmas DVD back next October when whoever goes to watch their CB Halloween DVD and can only find the Christmas one, instead.

Merry Post-Christmas and Happy New Year, Danielle!

Drazi

Danielle... Does tomorrow not exist? 💖

dcorsetto

Honestly, it's a curse but also *definitely* an adorable blessing.

dcorsetto

It used to seem kinda arbitrary, but in this case, it would have really helped!! Charlie Brown Christmas isn't available ANYWHERE - even to buy or rent - except for Apple TV, which we don't have. And I'm pretty sure our DVD copy has additional bonus features that nerds like us love!

dcorsetto

Hahaha right? I hope so! I don't wanna rain on their Halloween, either!

dcorsetto

Shh don't enable them!! (Actually that feels better than knowing for certain that it's wrong....)

Drazi

Hehe. Just checking you weren't planning to watch the ball drop tonight 😀

dcorsetto

Honestly after our plans got all shifted around this week, I wouldn't be surprised if I'd done that.

Terry Peterson

Merry Christmas, Danielle! Sorry that you were sick. It makes me happy to see the skeletons having a good time. I have a special connection with them now that I own their first appearance.

Dean Reilly

Sorry you weren't able to see your family, Sickmas sucks. If I had been that assistant, I would have left out the apostrophe and hoped that the customer didn't notice.

Leak

So... Saturdailies?

A Winged Potato

Just wanted to say that I got your book of figure drawings for my partner as a Christmas gift and they found it to be a very sweet and romantic gift, so thank you.

Thomas Blanc

I hope you feel better now. Thank you and happy last 2023 day as well!

dcorsetto

Ahh it's true, you've got a little piece of their lives now!

dcorsetto

I haven't had a chance to ask her yet, but I suspect she twitched like I did.

dcorsetto

Ahh that makes me so happy!! Glad they liked it!

William Cole

Well done with the presies, Luke! Merry Xmas & Happy New Year to all!

NJGR

Heeeey, happy birthday to me! I'm glad you were a day late, because I can pretend it was an extra special present today. I'm sorry you ended up sick over Christmas, but I'm glad it was still full of love and relaxation for you! - jess

THE GRAMMARIAN EYE TWITCH IS REAL. I have only recently succeeded in suppressing it every time I hear the word "literally" being misused. But I still think "lost cause; just deal with it" every time. I feel a release of tension, and a positive rush of endorphins, when I hear someone using "further/farther" correctly. When I see something described as "one of the most iconic" in print, part of me needs to go lie down, like a proper Victorian lady upon hearing that one of her nieces intends to purchase a bicycle. This was SO much easier when we were all snotty little know-it-all teens and could just blurt out every contemptuous reaction, wasn't it? Stopping to consider that other people are human beings and that many errors are innocent and quite common really ruins the fun. And of course I have to link to one of my favorite GWS strips. https://www.girlswithslingshots.com/comic/gws-1897

Christmas Skeletons are definitely becoming an actual Thing! One of my neighbors down the street decorated the backs of both of their cars with gorgeous lifelike skeletons for Halloween. And now the two are sitting on a bench in their garden, wearing Santa hats and strings of lights.

dcorsetto

Ha! I've consoled myself of the misuse of "literally" by assuming it's just being used for humorous hyperbole. My big peeve now is the word "beyond." Nobody can just be happy or grateful for anything these days; they have to be BEYOND happy or BEYOND grateful. Wtf is *beyond* either of those words? A better word, probably. I'm lost on the "iconic" sentence, though - can only one thing be iconic? (Luckily that word's not in my vernacular!)

dcorsetto

Ahhh Jess, happy birthday!! Yes, please assume that my subconscious remembered your birthday, and it was just for you. :)

Andy Ihnatko

"iconic" is like "unique" or "supreme": it's an "absolute modifier." So "very iconic" or "one of the most iconic..." is incorrect because "iconic" isn't a characteristic that can be intensified. Admittedly, as a source of eye-twitching annoyance, "very iconic" probably rates only about 170 milliapostrophes. I've just plain stopped using the word "literally," for fear that my audience won't understand that I mean it...er, _literally._

M. Newton

One of my neighbors has put up a ten foot tall Jack Skellington in his Santa costume in their yard. The holidays are bleeding into each other in some delightful ways. :)

Meisterj

Quiet holidays are nice. I'm glad you and Luke had a good exchange and we're in a fun plant wave length. The framed cars look great! Your reflection rendering skills are so strong from this project. I was imagining individual frames but it also makes sense like this so they can be seen together

Convalescing with skeletons is a pretty unique Christmas! Hope you are recovering fast!
