The temperature barely crept out of the single digits today. Michael's studio (and the house he lives in, for that matter) resembles the 18th century house I live in: thermostat set low to keep the oil bill down; a different space heater in each room; heavy curtains hanging from tension rods in each doorway, so as to warm one room at a time without wasting precious electricity heating those rooms you're not using.

When Annie came to model for us tonight, she said "I think I'll keep my socks on," which we both agreed was for the best.

Five minute warmups first!

I thought I'd get really weird with the coloring on this one (don't I always think that?), but instead I just decided to deviate from my preliminary sketches of the long pose:

... and exaggerate the pose a bit to make it feel more comfy, sassy, and leany. Here's a crappy in-progress photo I remembered to take halfway through:

... and the final painting!

Here's a bunch of closeups:

Still figuring out knees, but I like that one on the right.

I was really satisfied with the greyish white that I used for the cuffs & toes of the socks. I picked up almost every color on my palette with my brush, watered it all down, and it came out so cool-neutral. Every color neutralizing its compliment. I love when that happens. :)

I wish I'd drawn the ancient space heater that was right in front of her all night, looking like a satellite with glowing orange coils in the center. It still works, but if you knock it with your foot, it makes an alarming buzzing sound like the punitive BZZZRT that you got when you tapped the tweezers too close to the edge of the surgical cuts in of the game Operation.

Hope you're staying warm out there, art nerds. :)

I love the socks! She looks cozy for all she's otherwise nude. And the knees came out great this time! kneeeees

Oh no. I would've been like, "I'll keep my hat, and my gloves, and my scarf, and my coat, and my...... on." I can barely keep warm WITH my clothes on!
