Tragedy tomorrow, comedy tonight! 🤣 I was genuinely surprised by how quickly the storyline swept me up into its fast-paced chaos and clever absurdity. The slapstick humor and rapid-fire dialogue (which I think some of the spicier things honestly went over my head, I'm sorry hahaha) made an entire whirlwind of comedy feel both classic and timeless. This movie felt like stepping into a world where everything was slightly off-kilter, in the best way LOL. Huge thanks to Sterling LaLoge for sharing this Movie Ticket pick with the community! This kind of humor isn't something I usually seek out, so it was definitely a refreshing change of pace and gave us all a reason to laugh together. There's something special about a film that leans so heavily into its ridiculousness and still manages to feel smart and engaging! I'm thankful for the experience! Yeah I'm pretty well versed in classic Hollywood cinema but am definitely not familiar with this one. Hopefully I can catch it one of these days, but I'm already behind and still have synced-up Illusionist, Prestige, and now Star Wars to watch. With that out of the way, we can discuss the real topic at hand here which is the cuteness of those overalls :D I'm proud of myself Kali, I managed to make a meme on Discord of that surprised face from the Gladiator short :D. Only took 8 tries haha. Star Wars tomorrow yippee

First watch: A wonderfully ridiculous movie. Every now and again I need to watch something I can just switch my brain off for, and this is a great pallete cleanser. Noticed several famous British and American comedic actors in this: even a future Doctor Who (Jon Pertwee), and a future Phantom of the Opera (Michael Crawford) 😂 Phil Silvers was my grandfather's favourite comic actor, mostly because of his role as Sergeant Bilko in The Phil Silvers show. So it was fun to see him in this. Also the legendary Buster Keaton played Erronious (the one told to run around the hills 7 times). The director of this Richard Lester, directed my favourite big screen version of The Three / Four Musketeers from the 1970s. Lester also controversially took over from Richard Donner in the middle of filming Superman II (1980).

As you know I've mentioned before, this is what I love about the movie ticket picks! It's added so much cool variety to the mix around here. One week, we're watching something super heavy, or mind-bending, and then the next we got a classic comedy like this one haha. Not to mention how many new movies they've introduced me to Watching this now with you was the first time I've seen it and I really enjoyed it! Sometimes we all need a lighthearted, movie that doesn't take itself seriously (at all LOL) to give a much needed laugh on this rainy Friday. At first, it was a lot to take in, but I got invested so quickly! And the final horse chase sequence was 60's comedy gold LOL Also, for Pixel, I feel like as she's gotten more comfortable with your new house and her perch by the window, the more sprawled out she's been during her naps hahaha

Thank you Kali for a reaction that did not disappoint in the least! It was so fun watching you enjoy this one with such unabashed laughter! I hope that others enjoy it as much as you did. I am happy that it was something that you normally would not have noticed or attempted to watch and that you are then able to enjoy a movie that is outside the normal realm of many reactors. Might I suggest that you make a feature of putting up a poll of hidden gems for movies like this that your patrons enjoy but not many people know about. Keep on broadening your horizons and giving yourself a unique feature reacting to movies that no one else normally does. Can't wait to get another movie ticket and surprise you with another hidden gem!

Sterling LaLoge

Glad you enjoyed it! And you are absolutely right.... You can't do much better than the chariot chase for just pure goofy fun! LOL

The story here is like the comedy of Roman times, with young romance, coincidences, mistaken identity, devious slaves, bragging soldiers, lecherous elders, and even twins and pirates. The production itself is a good snapshot of the cusp between the Swinging London mid-60s and the counterculture late-60s. And these two begat Monty Python. This is the same year the Star Trek original series began -- with similar women's hair styles, even though set in the distant past and the far future.

I’ve never seen this movie but now I guess I have a reason to watch it. I do like Musicals a lot. Have you seen Wicked? If not I highly recommend it. Also Les Miserables is a great musical as well.

Paul Wright

I second these, as well as recommend Phantom of the Opera and Hamilton. There are other music-based movies I'd recommend but I'll wait to say.

LOL what! I haven't seen the meme yet I need to go look haha

kaliwali

YES I totally agree this was an awesome palette cleanser. Gotta love a good film that is witty and never takes itself seriously!

kaliwali

I totally agree! I would have neeeever foung this film without Sterling's help and it ended up being such an awesome and (apparently much needed lol) break from the norm here. And I'm with you on needing a movie that just doesn't take itself seriously and you can just laugh at 'just because' LOL. Which was 100% this film! Pixel! So I usually invite her up to her bed before I sit down to set up for my recording and sometimes she'll get up there and start her pre-nap routine and other times she will just completely rebel haha. But I've also noticed that she has been climbing up there and just skipping the pre-nap cleaning and going straight to sprawled out on her back mode LOL. I think it's safe to say she absolutely looooves it here in our home 💗

kaliwali

Sterling thank you so much for bringing some much needed laughs in here!! Like Maz said, this is the reason I love Movie Tickets picks also. Because without yours, I would have neeever thought to give this a chance. Yes, sometimes I may judge a movie based on it's cover 😂 But after that intro, I was ready for it! Absolutely loved the wittiness, silliness and laughs of this. And yes, great suggestion for future polls to feature more off the beaten path kinda films ✨ Thank you again, Sterling!

kaliwali

I haven't seen Wicked! I'll try to squeeze in a reaction of it when it comes to Disney + (if it isn't there already?? I haven't checked yet lol) I also haven't seen Les Miserables or Hamilton! I've seen Phantom of the Opera live but not the movie!

Russell Rutigliano

It’s actually on Peacock! It’s been on Peacock (Wicked is a Universal movie) since mid March. Oh I’m soooo excited for you to watch Wicked! You will absolutely love it! Hamilton is on Disney+. Les Miserables is the only one not on a streaming platform right now.

Thanks Kali! I enjoyed your reaction! I have liked this movie since I was a kid. In Ancient Rome soap was not invented yet. Ancient people would wipe themselves with oil. That would loosen dirt and sweat. Then they would scrape it off with a wooden scraper. When done wash off with water. They did not shave underarms.

Sterling, Thank You, thank you, thank you. I saw this as a play in my childhood staring Zero Mostel, I have loved it ever since.
