I am SO excited to finally begin my journey through these beloved films. And right from the opening crawl, I was immediately swept up into a world that felt vast, mysterious, and full of heart. Every character, from Luke's hopeful spirit to Leia's fierce (and spicy!?) determination and Han Solo's rugged charm, felt instantly iconic. I'm not sure if it's just because I know how loved this story is, or because of how timeless it all felt, but I could feel the weight of the journey the characters were beginning, and it pulled me in deeper with every scene! Now that I've finished A New Hope, I honestly can't wait to keep going. I already feel super connected to the story and the characters! This really does feel like the start of something incredibly special. See you all in the next adventure!Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿LINK: https://youtu.be/FeGOhR24SdkI watched this on Disney Plus

2026-09-07 13:00 Welp, I guess this is going to be my introduction to Star wars. I've always said that this franchise is one that has to be introduced with me if someone wanted to. I could not watch them on my own. I didn't think that I would enjoy them that much. And now that you are also starting this journey, I think this is the perfect time for me

MotoDork

I can only hope you watched the De-specialized edition.

SultanOfSwing

Welcome to the world that means so much to so many of us.

Sterling LaLoge

Ok, so here is my Star Wars story..... I am old enough to have seen it in theaters.... Kinda. Being not quite 3 and my mom being the type to want to expose me to high culture events she took me and my older sister with her the many times she went to see it in theaters. The problem was that no matter what showing she went to I could NEVER get past the Mos Eisley bar scene without falling asleep. A fact for which my family still teases me to this day. I was not able to see the full film in theaters until the remastered extended edition came out again in the 90s. (I had seen it of course on VHS and on TV and stuff. Just not in the theater) So for all you parents with young kids that you need to put to sleep.... Play the bar scene music (I can't think of the name of the band at the moment) and they should nod right off. LOL

kaliwali

I'm so excited to begin this journey into such a loved universe! This first look was already amazing!

kaliwali

YES! I feel very honored that you're choosing to embark on this epic journey here with me!! Let me know what you think of this first movie 👀✨ Very excited for you to start this adventure too!

kaliwali

I watched the ones on Disney Plus! I have a feeling that those aren't the OG ones that everyone else saw, but those are pretty difficult to get ahold of now. I had a few people offer to lend me/stream their OG version of the films, but I didn't want it to be out of sync with those who couldn't watch that way! :)

kaliwali

I'm very excited to be here, finally!

The Dingo

I would be lying if I didn't say I am looking forward so much to this journey for you! I don't think this is spoiler, but a fun piece of trivia, every movie someone says "I have a bad feeling about this" - you should watch for it :)

kaliwali

LOL awwww very understandable! I will say that some of the sounds and scenes in this film felt very calming and slow-burning- which I absolutely loved! So very understandable that a 3 year old would fall asleep at that part haha

MotoDork

I can understand that. It is not easy to find the de-specialized editions, as they are technically fan-uploads. I would say, however, that this is why physical media will always be king. I have the unedited versions on both DVD and Laserdisc. I can watch them any time I want, whether or not I have an internet connection. And unlike with streaming, they always look perfect on the screen, they never buffer or experience picture loss, AND the studio can NEVER take them away from me. I truly wish more people, and especially people like you who do reactions, would simply purchase the movies on disc.

The Dingo

I wish I had copies of the origina de-specialized! I miss some aspects of it

The Dingo

Another first time watcher! So exciting! We need to know what you think about this too! Please please please add comments too!

MotoDork

You can find laserdisc players for sale, and then you can purchase the original three films on laserdisc. You can even still get the original films on DVD made before the special editions were released. The de-specialized editions are straight from the laserdisc releases.

Russell Rutigliano

“You’ve taken your first step into a larger world”. It’s so damn cool you are doing both Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica at the same time. Princess Leia is one of my favorite characters she is such a bad ass!!

kaliwali

LOL I love that and I'll look out for it! Glad you're just as excited as I am ✨👀

kaliwali

It is pretty crazy how that ended up happening and even the same-ish week! 😂✨

Phil Stubblefield

Kali, I'm so excited that you're watching these films! 😁 I was 13 years old when Star Wars came out... and it changed my young teenage life! My Farah Fawcett and Lamborghini Countach posters were replaced by X-Wings and TIE fighters, and my love for science fiction was cemented. (Even my SciFi-hating father loved it because of the action!)

The Dingo

By the way, I STRONGLY recommend you rewatch Episodes 4, 5, and 6, after you have seen Episodes 1, 2, and 3 - you will thank me, I promise you. When you do the rewatch, you will have soooooo much context to add to certain things in Episodes 4, 5, and 6

Richard B

The fact that Kali hasn't watched Star Wars is quite beyond my capacity! From the first movie, it becomes obvious that R2 is a badass.

Robert da Spruce

Looking forward to watching your reaction Kali! Just think about all the pop culture references you’ll understand now! 😉

Paul T

This is one of the first movies I ever remember watching in a theater. I was around 8. At that age, I was immediately drawn to it and when I learned that they were making another one I just had to see it. At that age, you're impressed with anything, but these were really something special. The opening scene with the huge empire ship, it just keeps going and going and going. So big!!! It was amazing on the big screen to a newbie movie goer. Loved your reaction as always and your enthusiasm for it. See you in The Empire Strikes Back

Mark Walston

I saw it in the theater when it first came out. I'm still amazed.

rubberkidney

want a great young ed norton movie its called 'primal fear'

Curaitis

The despecialized versions can be very interesting if you want to experience what we saw back then but as you said you would shut out a lot of people who havent them at hand to watch along. So its way better to watch the disney+ versions. Also watching some behind the scenes/making of´s are sufficient enough to get a feeling for the original´s.

Digital Droo

I just had to respond because I was 7 when I first saw it in a theater.

Curaitis

First and foremost...RIP my Princess. Now to the Movie. George Lucas took a lot of inspiration for Star Wars from Western and Samurai Movies. He was a huge fan of Akira Kurosawa´s Seven Samurai for example, btw if you want to know which Movie was the most influential in the History of Movies, there you go. You can see a lot of tropes from those 2 Genres in Star Wars. Jedis are the Samurai of old with their life and codex. Han is a classic Cowboys Anti Hero and Luke and Leia are typical Western Hero and Heroine. While we are with Leia. She, Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley are the OG´s for how to write a female lead. Whenever someone asks me which ones are the prime examples i mentioning those 3. Being careful at what i will say about Obi Wan. He turned into a Force Ghost. A Jedi needs special training to become a Force Ghost and must be of pure heart. How Jedi can become a Force Ghost after he dies is a mystery but only Jedis can become one. Sith like Darth Vader (Sith is the evil equivalent of a Jedi) cant. Luke could hear him because of that. As far as i know its a bit unclear how Luke could hear him so easily while Luke has no proper Jedi Training. Through this Movie Lucas created the most influential and renowned Special Effects Studio, ILM, Industrial Light and Magic which worked on countless Movies throughout the Decades. To give you a little glimpse on them. They worked on Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, The Dark Crystal (a Movie you need to watch, stunning for its time.), Star Trek, Terminator 2, Jurassic Park or Pirates of the Caribbean. I could go on and on with this list. As i said before its the right way to watch it in release order with the exception of Clone Wars. Dont know if you will watch it but i had a link to the watch order in my comment back then. If you need it again, here you go. https://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-the-clone-wars-chronological-episodeorder Im sure you will love every Movie and Show, even the more controversial ones, which btw started when Disney took over Star Wars. The big Skeleton you saw when 3PO and R2 anded on Tatooine is a Krayt Dragon, a realy small one. Quoted from Wookiepdia... "The term "krayt dragon" referred to a number of large, carnivorous reptilian species that hailed from Tatooine, a desert planet in the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories. Krayt dragons, despite their fierceness, were hunted for the precious pearls found in their bodies." I stop here before it becomes to big. Take care my dear Padawan and may the Force be with you. P.S. As you mentioned the MSR, hows your Smuggler career going or was there no time for it? ;)

Cory Stanish

I also was almost 3 when this came out, and I saw it at a drive-in with my dad and my brothers... but I have absolutely no memory of that. Weirdly, I do remember seeing Disney's The Rescuers at a drive-in, which came out that same summer. But I definitely remember seeing every Star Wars movie since the first on at the movies.

kaliwali

I can 10000% see why! The X-Wings and TIE fighters are AMAZING. In Star Citizen, they launched the Scorpius ship about 4 years ago and it looks just like an X-Wing! The wings could even in or out and there was a gunner turret that someone could hop into and it could go on the top or bottom. It was AMAZING. And since I was in Star Citizen, I saw sooo many references and people calling that an X-Wing so it was very cool to finally see it in this first film ✨

kaliwali

I remember one day on Twitch someone made a Star Wars reference and I didn't understand it and chat caught on that I had never seen the films... Pretty sure some people unfollowed me that day 😂🤣 Joking, but chat did light up with WHAT HOW. I was also playing Star Citizen at this time haha

kaliwali

Even in this very first film, I get why people were freaking out about the Scorpius in Star Citizen launching a few years ago haha. Looks JUST like the X-Wing and now I get all the references to it that people made

kaliwali

I bet seeing that in theatres at the time was absolutely mind blowing!! I can't wait for the next film already ✨ See you there!

Digital Droo

I want to watch the kaliwali edition of the films where Vader says "do not diss The Force."

Marty McGee

Yeah meeting Princess Leia and Starbuck in the same week! Two great sci-fi characters! But Leia and Carrie Fisher was the OG!

Marty McGee

Still one of the most fun sci-fi movies of all time. I saw it first on HBO in the 80s, didn't get to see it originally in the theaters. I was only 3 at the time. Did get to see Empire in the theater, but barely remember it. The original effects, though dated, still hold up better in my opinion than the digital effects which were added in the 90's. It was truly revolutionary film-making for the time. I gotta say though, if you're a fan of Family Guy or Robot Chicken, their spoofs of this movie (and subsequent ones) have totally ruined it (in the best way possible)! There's a lot of controversial opinions ahead for later movies and shows, but I hope you continue to enjoy the journey! Even with its flaws I still love the SW universe!

KJ

This first film has its dated charm, but the next film The Empire Strikes Back is a noticeable leap in quality and storytelling. Looking forward forward to your reactions throughout the series.

Lastboyscout73

My oldest sister was 17 when this came out. She went and saw it in the theater 47 times.

Ian Forbes

Nice pickup on the music feeling like Hogwarts, Kali. John Williams did the music for all the Star Wars films and the first 4 Harry Potter films (and Jaws, Indiana Jones, etc., etc.). He’s basically the king of recognizable franchise themes.

Kenny

Congrats Kali, you've taken your first step into a larger world 😉. Looking forward to more Star Wars reactions from you!

Richard

And the saga begins. May the Force be With You Kali! I was gone all day so finally have time to comment. Very hyped that your Star Wars journey has begun! Just so you can get your head in the right space first, you have to think about what kind of impact this first movie had in the analog 70s. It was the time of disco and punk, bell-bottoms, gas shortages, and leftover hippies jaded with fresh cynicism after the Vietnam War and Watergate scandal. The cultural phenomenon Star Wars caused was absolutely huge; no one had seen anything like this before. One of my aunts said she saw it 20 times at the theater that summer. Adjusted for inflation it is still one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. In my opinion the next 2 are better but of course I’ll be eager to get your take on that, as well as who your favorite characters are, etc. Much like the MCU, the Star Wars Cinematic Universe spawned a huge wave of comics and merch, book series, spin-offs, and the like. Can’t wait to see how it unfolds for you. As you probably gathered, Lucas was basically trying to make a western in space but also fill it with classic literary tropes like princesses, knights, and wizards. It seems to have worked. Now, after you have seen the reworked version, let us state emphatically that in the original HAN SHOT FIRST, not Greedo, which gives us insight into his real character, not the PC version Lucas tried to make later. One thing that might be interesting about the launch of Sci-Fi era, will watching a modern show like BSG make Star Wars seem "dated"? SW is very much about older, more traditional values, when people believed in good and bad and not everything was a gray area. Will be an interesting contrast in styles. Unfortunately one of the drawbacks of being a Content Creator (even the best one in the galaxy!) is that you don’t get a chance to “live” in anything very long, you have to get to the next thing. That’s why I love it when you get into film franchises (especially the MCU obviously) because you can really get into the ‘verse and the character journeys and arcs and can sit with them and absorb them. I’m talking movies specifically here, not TV shows. Star Wars is a big universe, so you’ll be able to live in it for awhile. I will say though, even with one-off movies, you seem able to completely get immersed IN THAT MOMENT and take the whole experience in and you probably are able to retain the thoughts and emotions and storylines a little better than most with your ability to concentrate and be present and fully engaged. It’s definitely a strength you have. I know I’m going to LOVE this reaction! Unfortunately it probably won’t be until Wednesday but that will give me something to look forward to! Brilliant idea to time this so it hits YouTube May 4th. Beauty and brains. 💕

M1 Maz

It's been a while since I sat down and properly watched this whole movie, and I forgot just how DENSE it is with story and world. From start to finish. As usual you kept up super well! I absolutely love just how vast the Star Wars world is. All the different species, the droids and their personalities, and all the ships and tech. This is going to be such a fun adventure for you as you continue to discover new things! Also, now you can finally understand alllll the memes and references LOL It's also very cool seeing you continue to discover new Sci-fi worlds in your own order and how you can compare and contrast them. Starting off with things like Star Citizen and Mass Effect, before getting to see Firefly, and now Star Wars and BSG. Each one bringing their own unique flavor to the genre Star Wars music and all the sights and sounds always give me the best vibes. And I just know for sure that watching your reactions through this series are gonna make me want to boot up Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor for another playthrough!

Dude Longcouch

I was going to say the same thing. Terrific movie.

Chris

Perfectly stated. For all his myriad other aspects of genius, George Lucas ain't much of a screenwriter. It was all the better for Star Wars when he ceded most of the screenwriting.

KJ

Props in particular to Lawrence Kasdan who's stayed with Star Wars stories even today, wrote for Indiana Jones, The Bodyguard, Wyatt Earp and many others.

I.Have.No.Band

off to another great adventure c: hyped/20

kaliwali

I can totally see the Western influence in this. And now with some of the light saber moves with Obi Wan and Vader.. I can see the Samurai, too! I loved the mix of Western/Rural with futuristic space themes in this already. It's very awesome! And the muuuuusic, oh man. I already love all of the characters so much. And Han with his cowboy anti-hero vibes, YES haha. I also wasn't expecting Princess Leia to be so spunky and witty! Especially given the year that this came out, no offense lol.. Just wasn't expecting a strong and witty female role in this and I was sooo pleasantly surprised! A Force Ghost, ya say?? I can already tell I'm gonna get so wrapped up in the lore of this world that George Lucas created. I can't wait to see and learn more about the force and Jedis! Thank you for the link again with Clone Wars. I saved it in a special place (aka my Discord lol) so I will remember to come back to it at that time. As for my smuggler career, I haven't played Star Citizen in over 2 years now unfortunately! But the MSR Cargo hold has seen many a sketchy things in it's time lol. Might be time to get the 'Wali Wagon' out once more after seeing this and BSG this week!

kaliwali

I heard the OG effects were great and didn't really need to be messed with! This is one of those films that I wish I was alive to witness in theatres and see the hype around at the time. I can just tell already from this first film why Star Wars became the legend that it is today. I haven't watched Family Guy! But I have seen a few episodes of Robot Chicken back in High School lol. I'll have to circle back around and watch the spoofs after my journey here has ended. There have been sooooo many times where someone or media has mentioned Star Wars and it always went right over my head- Not anymore!!

kaliwali

47!? That's amazing!! 👀🤣

kaliwali

I had no idea!! No wonder why. I guess I'll have to see Jaws and Indiana Jones now for the complete John Williams collection lol.

kaliwali

You really painted a vivid picture of the era Star Wars was born into! I love the idea of seeing it all through that 70's lense- disco, post-Watergamte disillusionment, and all. It helps understand how Star Wars offered a kind of mythic hope in the middle of cultural chaos and I love that so much. I appreciate the historical context because it is one of the things that makes diving into these legendary franchises so rewarding, and now I'm even more excited to see how it all unfolds from here! It reminds me of why I turned to gaming when I was younger and how it helped me escape my own little reality. I blame games for why I get so immersed in everything I watch/consume. Because that feeling is what kept me going during the darker days! The chance to live in a world and really feel the arcs, emotions, and characters evolve over time is what I live for. I'm glad that my immersion, even if it is just for a short time, brings you joy as well!! Thank you for being here on these journeys, the short ones, the long ones, the ones through different universes and back again!

kaliwali

Right?? I was honestly surprised by how much story and world-building was packed into this very first movie! It barely lets up, ever. But in the best way because it makes it already feel so lived in and we're just along for the ride. I totally agree that the variety in species, droids, tech, and culture just made everything feel so endlessly explorable right away. And omg the amoung of memes already that used to just go right over my head, or I used in GIF form because I could relate is so awesome to see come to life! It's honestly been such a great time exploring the different corners of sci-fi through my own crazy winding path lol. I didn't' realize it until you said it! But I love how much each universe brings something new to the table. Star Wars definitely feels like the beating heart of the genre in a lot of different ways- especially with that music and those visuals already! I can't wait to see where so many stories I've already lived and breathed got much of their inspiration from.. It feels like I'm ready for this franchise now if that makes sense haha

kaliwali

Thank you for sharing this!! What an incredible memory.. I could actually feel every bit of that excitement and wonder through your words. I can only imaaaagine what it must have been like to see that scroll and those ships on the big screen as a kid in the theatre.. Before Star Wars was, Star Wars. That moment where the Star Destroyer just keeps coming! Yes. I love how you described all of this like the magic never left you! I feel super lucky to finally be stepping into this world AND get to share it with people like you (the true OG fans). And those Kenner cards! That's Star Wars history right there haha. Thank you again, and see you in the next one! ✨

Jonathan Spahn

Wow! I actually felt emotional watching this again with you 😢 Nostalgia can be powerful, and getting to watch your reaction knowing almost nothing is such a treat 😃 I'm going straight to the next because it's a doozie 😬

kaliwali

I'm glad you enjoyed my first look into this world!! ✨

Tim C

I'm a little behind, but I just started watching your reaction, and had to immediately jump in the comments. Within mere moments you mention the music! Don't worry about how soon that was - this score is so epic, "mere moments in" is the perfect time to notice it! I'm going to continue watching the reaction now, but if I were a gambler, I'd bet the farm that it won't be the last time you talk about how outstanding the music is. :D

kaliwali

As you probably saw, it wasn't! The music was so magical and made the entire film that much more epic feeling. And no wonder why I got Harry Potter vibes from it!!

Armchair Rizzard

I'm happy to be watching these with you again. I'm a lifelong Star Wars fan since childhood, so its great to see them with you for the first time!

C. J. Ramirez

Gotta watch clone wars and rebels after this series

pinkdino99

Worth the sub to watch this whole reaction with you. I can tell R2-D2 really touched your heart. Whenever the middle wheel was extended and R2 was moving it was simply an empty robot, however R2 was otherwise played by small person Kenny Baker and followed directions to "look excited" by wiggling and bouncing around. Kenny exclaimed that occasionally the entire crew would break for lunch and forgot to get him out of R2 ! This vision was only in Lucas' head and he remains today disappointed with the results on screen. Nobody else believed in him. The production was rushed causing Lucas to suffer heart problems and lose a marriage. The final cut was terrible and required his then wife to moonlight as editor to ramp up the pace of the thing, and after filming none of the revolutionary special effects had been started. None of the sounds existed and the music had not been written. Nobody knew what they had. The only “hype” had come from some self promotion Lucas had the foresight to do at some conventions (which were NOTHING like conventions today). The FX were being shot right up to the closing moments, and they only had a few shots for the original trailer. Thankfully there was a deal with Marvel for a series of comic books which young fans (like myself) ravenously consumed alongside a novelised version of the film which sold out 500k copies. However the industry was sceptical, and in a time before multiplexes, only 40 theatres agreed to take the film on it’s May release. And the only reason they took it was that they agreed to Star Wars as a bolt on to FOX’s release The Other Side of Midnight which theatres wanted. But somehow it all came together. Audiences were stunned, and wowed, and spellbound by this simple heroic space story which defied all conventions and broke every mould of movie making revolutionising cinema forever. Star Wars created the summer blockbuster and went on to make $3,047,314,171 (adjusted) worldwide. I'd recommend the awesome Empire of Dreams documentary (free on YouTube) and the TV series Light and Magic which is the fascinating story of the behind the scenes adventures. Personally my fave character has always been Chewbacca. Loyal, fierce, and gives great hugs. I went to the Secret Cinema Star Wars event years back which had interactive events around the Star Wars universe. Whilst sitting outside a bar I saw Chewie walk past about ten feet from me. I excitedly leapt up and yelled "CHEWIE !" at the top of my voice. He turned, roared at me and pumped his arms in the air. Easily my top nerd moment of all time.

Ray

They don't make them like this anymore. Miss it.

Ray

"Don't diss the Force"! LOL!

Ray

This is Star Wars. Not the nonsense being produced today.
