Wrapping up this first season of Andor had me feeling all of the emotions. This show has been one of the most rewarding Star Wars experiences I've had in my journey so far. Andor truly feels like a masterpiece of storytelling, character work, and tension building. I feel like I've been on a journey not just through the Rebellion's earliest sparks, but through the human heart of Star Wars itself. Cassian Andor's growth in this first season was beautifully frustrating to watch. He begins as someone who's just trying to survive. Stuck in fight or flight. Constantly running from accountability or attachment. But in these final episodes, we see him finally choosing a side. Not because he is forced to, but because he finally understands what's at stake. It makes his development feel earned in such a satisfying way. And this epic finale finally shows Cassian stepping into the person we knew he'd become!Luthen might be my favorite character in this entire Star Wars saga. Which sounds crazy, I know. He's this perfect blend of ruthless pragmatism and deep conviction. You never know what cards he has up his sleeve and that makes him such a fascinating figure. His speech about sacrifices still echoes in my head, and the finale only added even more weight to that! He's willing to play the villain in history so that others can be called heroes. And that paradox right there is what makes his character so endlessly compelling. Mon Mothma has also had me floored this entire season. During this series we see the price she has paid to be the calm, assured leader she is in the later films. The personal sacrifices. The moral compromises. The pain of balancing family against a cause bigger than herself. Watching her navigate politics while her personal life unravels around her is heartbreaking. But it makes her later role in the Rebellion mean so much more. I think what makes Andor so powerful is that none of these characters are just simple archetypes. They're layered. Flawed. Human. Even Dedra and Syril. The finale brought out all of those threads and pieced them together in such an emotionally satisfying way. This show reminds me that Star Wars isn't best at just battles and lightsabers. There are true lessons within it. Lessons about the cost of freedom. Lessons about finding your place in a galaxy that doesn't make it easy.Season 1 was everything I hoped for and more. This finale was about setting the stage for the Rebellion, but it also lit a fire in me as a fan. I can't wait to see where these stories go next! See you all in Season 2!

Dude Longcouch

Beautiful writeup, you really nailed what makes Andor so special. I cannot wait to watch this after work today!

kaliwali

I hope you enjoy!! Such an epic season finale but I expected no less haha

Richard

Nice description of the whole arc of the first season, and nice job conveying how much it affected you. Sometimes we get so caught up in actors and cinematography we overlook writers, who ultimately are the most important cog of all. What you said about Luthen’s speech, and Mon Mothma, made me connect the dots as to why the rebellion in the future movies was so indefatigable, stalwart, unbreakable, and undefeatable - it was built on such formidable foundations. Unwavering faith that good will triumph. Luthen’s speech should also remind all of us that we’re capable of greatness if we just tap into it. THANK YOU for acknowledging how difficult it is to keep up with you!! Seriously, it's my only source of frustration for something that otherwise has meant so much to me and enriched my life. I just don't have the circumstances to watch everything, or when I do get to it, it's way past the shelf life and the comments section is dead. That’s not a complaint btw! Once in awhile I have an opportunity to do a double-feature in an attempt to keep pace haha. I'm interested in all 3 movies you're watching this week so we'll see how it goes . . . Congrats on 60k.

AdmiralZhou

Yes, totally agree with what you said about the characters. They're all just so well written, even small side characters. It's all just so grounded and human. And that's what makes characters interesting, they're flawed. Luthen's ship is so cool, I need a ship like that in the next Star Wars game or something haha. And ugh Marva's words she left for Brasso to tell Cassian, "Tell him I love him more than anything he could ever do wrong", gets me every time 😭 Can't wait for you to watch S2!

Camron

Great stuff. What’s crazy is that Season 2 is probably even better.

Lastboyscout73

First, amazing reaction as always. The finale was so powerful and it was hard to wait for season 2 which took over 2 years if I remember correctly. I'm ok with a week or two off but I'm extremely glad you are planning to not put it off any longer. If you think Season 1 was good, just wait, it's hard to believe but Season 2 is just as good if not even better (I personally think it's amazing). It really flushes out all the characters. Just one comment on the guy who turned in Andor. I don't think he was on the Empire's side per say, he was just greedy. He wanted credits and a way out of Ferix. I was glad he got his comeuppance. Btw, I think it's ok in a fictional show to want bad things to happen to bad people. Don't feel bad about that emotion, it's raw and the first instinct when you see exactly what's going on. I think this show does an amazing job of showing you the faces behind the Empire as well and you get a chance to see their personal drives and motivations. It's oddly weird that it gets you interested on how the "bad guys" think. I look forward to Season 2. Not that I need one, but it gives me an excuse to revisit this amazing show.

The entire season was just one big amazing arc! I really love this finale, and how everything converged back on Ferrix. Just reflecting on how this series started, and how *everything* changed by now is so powerful to think about. All the growth, sacrifices, and dedication to completely change the fate of the galaxy between episode 1 and episode 12. This show went so far beyond my expectations in the best ways possible with how dark, real, and emotional it was. Really enjoyed discovering it with you, and I can't wait to see what Season 2 brings. It feels like everything is set in motion and we're on a collision course now with Rogue One Also, have to mention that the scene with Luthen escaping the empire in his ship was so cool! Literally didn't break a single sweat, no change to facial expression and just wiped the floor with them and ran LOL

McShades

Another great reaction, love your insights into the show, it's always fun to see how others view it... BTW, I know your a Mass Effect fan, Amazon is making a Mass Effect TV Show, there casting now, can't wait to see that...

Chris

STONE AND SKY. STONE AND SKY. Ferrix is awesome. Never seen it confirmed, but it seems logical that the idea behind Ferrix is that labor movements have historically been fertile grounds for early-day revolutionary/anti-fascist activity. One Empire dude getting brained with Maarva's brick, and another one spartan kicked off the anvil tower is just too good. Let's also pour a last one out for Nemik. It was his words (omg those words) that finally crystalized it for Cassian: The day will come when all these skirmished and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. REMEMBER THIS: TRY.

I hear that Season 2 won the Emmy this year for Best Writing. Absolutely deserved it! Season 1 also deserved it (I don't really keep up so unaware if it won or got nominated that year). It's a shame that none of the actors won or got noms. But if it could win anything, writing is the chief standout in this show. The dialogs are so good and the story is so grounded and with well written character arcs. Everything just fits together so perfectly. The monologues always bring chills or tears. I think I can honestly say that Andor is my favorite show of at least the 2020's. Maybe my favorite since BSG!

M1 Maz

Hi, coming from a mod, please edit your last paragraph.... Just because something was revealed in advertising, doesn't mean someone who's reacting totally blind wants to know all that. Even me, as a new viewer to the show, watching this blind, that was a total spoiler, and I REALLY wish I didn't read all that

Chris

Ok—confident that when you watch you’ll see what I mean that it really isn’t—but no prob

Calu

Glad you are enjoying the show so far Kali. The season finale is so good. "Tell him I love him more than anything he could ever do wrong" broke me when I first watched it, and it still breaks every time. And the speeches in this show: Nemek, Luthen, Marva...😢 A couple of random side notes: First, I am very surprised you have not yet commented on Mon Mothma's outfits. She always looks incredible! Also, I think I have a crush on Genevieve O'Reilly! LOL And second, not sure if you recognized them, but Marva and Syril's mother (Edye) were both in the Harry Potter movies - I think you mentioned being a big fan of those, so I will let you figure out which characters.

Other Chris

When Cassian was on Luthens ship he said "Kill me or bring me in". I think it was Cassians way of saying Ok Im ready to join the cause now and im a believer this time around but I dont want to be looking over my shoulder for you to kill me , so make your choice now. I love Luthens smile at the end because Luthen is making the choice in his head and I like to think that Luthen is weighing the risks but also taking in what he just saw on rix road and once he makes the call in his head, he smiles becuase hes surprised that Cassian was the one who changed his mind.

Thank you so much for coming along for this journey with me! Andor has definitely been one of the richest Star Wars experiences I've had. Which is saying A LOT considering how much I loved those films. In a lot of ways, watching this first Season of Andor has completely changed my love for Star Wars as a fan in all good ways. The fear they put in the Empire, the burning passion they lit within the beginning sparks of Rebellion, Luthen and his scary parallels to Dedra with what he is willing to sacrifice. Everything in this show has been both written and acted phenomenally! I definitely can't wait to jump into Season 2! BUT I know that some of you all are having difficulties keeping up with me every week lol. I notice it in the Patreon numbers and even though I'm eager to keep going, both Patreon and my editors are telling me to hit the brakes a bit 🤣 So I'll see you all in a few weeks for more Andor Season 2 when I'm ready to boot it back up! (Maybe I'll squeeze in a rewatch of Season 1 beforehand while I'm getting dinner ready during weeknights) And thank you for the congrats on 60k! It was a sloooow climb, but hopefully now that I'm out of series (star wars and jurassic parks) things can start to get better over there with adding more awesome people to our journey! 60k is such an awesome goal to hit and is actually a "Long Term Far Fetched" New Year's goal of mine ✨

kaliwali

Yes! Seeing Luthen maneuver his ship and the way it was filmed made me want to jump into Star Citizen and get my VKBs back out!!! And Marva was such a strong and beautiful character. There are SO many quotes that inspire me, choke me up, and light a fire in me from this season! I also can't wait for S2 so I'll see you there! Thanks for being on this journey with me!!

kaliwali

I expected the finale to be extremely powerful given how AMAZING this entire series has been at building things up just to let them explode. And it did not disappoint one bit! I can't wait to jump into Season 2 soon! And thanks so much for clearing up about the guy who turned in Andor. I wasn't sure what was happening. If he was undercover or what. But I can see 'just wanting credits' and turning him in for that alone. In a way, it makes his realization during Marva's speech even more powerful now looking back. Thanks for joining me on this epic journey! See you in Season 2!

kaliwali

You put it perfectly! The way everything circled back to Ferrix for the finale felt soooo earned. Like we'd been building that weight and then it all just exploded in the best way and revealed another huge arc over top of the smaller ones we've already seen and loved. Seeing how much Ferrix has even changed since Season 1 really makes you realize how huge the stakes have become. How quickly the Empire can integrate itself into people's lives and completely destroy their freedoms. How much everyone's sacrifices are already reshaping the galaxy! I'm right there with you in that it completely blew my expectations out of the water! And yessss Luthen's ship escape! It seriously made me want to boot up Star Citizen again and dust off the VKBs and just go fight some space pirates LOL. He did it without any sweat or hesitation. Just straight up space swashbuckler mode engaged 🔥🙀 I can't wait to see how all of these threads race toward Rogue One in Season 2. It really does feel like we are locked in now! Thank you for joining me in this epic season!

kaliwali

WHAT! That is amazing news omg 🤯 I seriously can't wait for that!!

kaliwali

Thank you, Maz for looking out for spoilers! This show is waaaay too good for any hints of any kind 😅🔥 I absolutely LOVED this first Season so much and I can't wait to see where it all goes from here completely blind. But yesss, Chris! Ferrix ended up being a whole entire arc on it's own. The biggest of them all. Seeing everything go down in the finale was so satisfying but also makes you realize how quickly the Empire can come in and disrupt everything with a simple touch. And Nemik!!! I completely forgot about his notes to Andor. I'm so, so glad that it was Nemik's journal and the combination of everything that Cassian went through that finally opened his eyes fully to what must be done. It was the final spark to the fire and I'm so glad they honored him in that way! See you in Season 2! I can't wait 🔥

kaliwali

Yes!! This season really did feel like lightning in a bottle. Everybody involved just poured their entire hearts into it and it totally shows in every scene. Apparently, I really need to add Independence Day up on my watchlist! Marva's speech was sooooo, so good. The way it rippled through everyone was such a powerful turning point. It blew my expectations of this finale completely out of the water! Which is wild haha I love how you worded Cassian's growth, too. Finally realizing it's not just about him or his loved ones. But about the entire fight. And I definitely need to keep a box of tissues at my desk LOL I keep forgetting and it's been a problem these past few weeks 😅 I can't wait for Season 2! See you there soon!

kaliwali

Oh wow! I need to sit and watch the Emmy's. I keep seeing clips here and there lol. But that makes me even more excited to jump into Season 2 (if I wasn't already haha) And I have to agree with you about 'favorite show'. Andor is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorites, ever. See you in Season 2!!

kaliwali

Yessss, the speeches in this show are SO good. So moving and emotional. You can feel the weight of every single word. I love that Nemik's writing was the final spark needed to really ignite Cassian's fire. It felt so satisfying and deserved. A beautiful way to remember him. And yes! Mon Mothma's style is always incredible haha. But honestly, so is everyone else's! The costume designer in this show needs a raise 😅🔥 And as for the Harry Potter characters, I totally realize who Edye is. I thought I made a comment about it but I must have gotten distracted by the show and thought I said it out loud but never did LOL. As for Marva, I think it was back in the first episodes that I made a comment in my outro about how amazing it is that she played a character I literally LOATHED in Harry Potter but it shows how incredible she is as an actress because I immeditely loved her in this show! See you in Season 2!! I can't' wait!

kaliwali

I can definitely see it from your perspective too, and I think you’re right in a lot of ways. For me, this scene really shows Cassian sacrificing himself for the greater cause and knowing everything Luthen has already given up, it clicks for him just how far Cassian is willing to go. That realization puts them on the same page. I absolutely loved how this moment tied back to Luthen’s speech in Episode 10! Cassian is now ready to burn his life for that sunset. And it made the finale feel so perfectly full circle, satisfying, and epic.

kaliwali

I absolutely LOVED Season 1 of this show! Thank you so much for hanging out with me on this epic journey! It really hit on every level. I completely agree about Bitrell's score. Teh way the same band is woven through so many different moments, including Marva's funeral.. It added sooo many emotions. And the subtle imperfections you mentioned definitely make it feel alive and connected. Like a real living community with real stakes. And YES about Marva's speech.. Her performance throughout Andor has completely changed the way I look at her. My first experience with her was from Harry Potter and I hated her because she played Harry's Mom's Sister LOL. But this show makes me want to experience more of her for sure! I'll have to check out Killing Eve. Luthen's smile at the end really was the perfect way to end this season. It shows how much he sees Cassian's commitment. How they are finally aligned in purpose. Willing to burn his life for the same sunset. *Chefs Kiss* Can't wait for Season 2!!! See you there!

Really wanted to watch this yesterday. But given what was happening, it felt a little weird firing up the ol’ Disney app. Even though the theme of the show is very relevant Sorry Kali. I really do want to watch your reaction. Maybe I’ll try again this weekend Oh, and if I’m breaking some rule even bringing up such things, feel free to delete this post Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Nick

I loved this revisit. I am a HUGE Star Wars fan, but one of the things that I love about Andor is that it's not tonally tied to the rest of the movies. I remember pitching to my wife (who does not really love Star Wars): "Don't think of it as Star Wars - it's a spy thriller with some Game of Thrones-y politics!" - and sure enough after giving it a chance, she LOVED it. Of course, as a Star Wars fan, I love the way it connects to the larger picture as well. Before the Death Star plans, before Luke's shot to destroy it, there was a group of normal people who became heroes in the face of oppression. So many moments in this finale stand out: 1. Bix humming the funeral song was so heartbreaking. Such an amazing performance, from defiant and fiery to so broken. 2. Nemik's manifesto was used so well this season. And it was satisfying to finally hear it, and it felt earned that Cassian's journey was finally influenced by it. 3. Maarva is such a powerful character. Fun fact - when she says "Fight the Empire" at the end, she was originally supposed to say "**** the Empire". Disney cut it lol (understandably given the audience). 4. You called it out in your reaction, but Diego Luna does a great job conveying emotion in his face. 5. Favorite underrated character: Brasso! He's a rock through the whole season and just an unambiguously good dude! I cannot wait for Season 2! Someone pointed out below that it DID win an Emmy for best writing in a drama series last weekend! And there was pretty widespread outcry on some of the acting snubs. You have a lot to look forward to with this show! Thanks for taking us along for the ride.

David Perkins

totally agree with your favourite underrated character! Brasso is a legend. he has immense strength and, if he chooses to be violent, whoever is on the receiving end is going to have a very bad day. but he is such a kind and gentle soul and will help anyone. honestly, if you get thumped by Brasso then you went the extra mile and you have it coming!

NinjaMidget

If you think season 1 got you in the feels, just wait til season 2. Same great storytelling with some heartbreaking endings and a couple very positive wrap-ups to character arcs. I won't spoil anything, but you'll see some of them coming and others will blindside you.

kaliwali

Ooo I keep hearing this and it makes me more and more excited to jump into Season 2!! See you there :)

kaliwali

Yes! That's a pretty accurate description although I haven't seen enough of GoT yet to get that reference haha. But I totally agree on the spy thriller vibe. And I can see why as a Star Wars 'meh'er she would love this one!! It's done so sooo well and really makes you start feeling like a part of the rebellion with how human they made it all feel. Those moments were all absolutely incredible! I knew this finale would be epic but somehow it still managed to blow my expectations out of the water! I can't wait for Season 2 next. See you there and thanks for joining me!!
