Where do I even really start with this one? In my outro I was actually struggling to find the right words or feelings to describe what I was thinking lol. Eternals definitely felt like stepping into a myth. One that just happens to exist inside of the MCU we have known. You all know how much I love my stories about gods, legends, and cosmic purpose (if you've seen my God of War or Hellblade playthroughs lol). So watching these "immortals" walk through human history, shaping it and being shaped by it, was very interesting! The world building was HUGE and I only struggled with it a bit because of my own beliefs lol. The Celestials, that massive scale of creation and destruction, the whole ancient-divine energy vibe. It made me feel so small. It made the Avengers look like ants. And it definitely felt different from anything we've seen before in the MCU. But it also left me with a LOT of questions.Like.. what was Peter Quill's father really? If not a true Celestial? What do the Celestials want? What is their main purpose? End goal? The idea that they're literally harvesting human energy to create more of themselves.. Is mind blowing and eerie. It's almost unsettling in a way that makes you question everything we thought we knew about this universe. And I'm not sure my brain was quite ready to dive there just yet LOLThe biggest question of all is then this: Can I accept this new perspective? That the MCU, this universe that we've been watching grow and evolve, might have been created by these beings just for a greater purpose? That they're our true "gods". Our big bang theory. Our origin? That's a lot to sit with and I think why my brain felt a bit melted at the end there! It really shifts the entire foundation of what I thought this world was built on. Where do we go from here?!✨Next up on the Superhero Odyssey Timeline: Spider-Man: No Way HomeThank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿LINK: https://youtu.be/2nPtk8DvaS8I watched this on Disney+

Glad you watched it and ignored people who said don't . While I definitely see why it wasn't as highly rated . There are definitely moments in there that need to be watched and seen . Also many people think it has one of the best if not the best speedsters shown on cinema . Tied with another series you'll eventually watch which I can't wait for .

Now that you’ve seen Eternals if you remember the place called knowhere (where the collector was based at with the reality stone) that entire place was in a dead head of a celestial. Also the idea that Thano’s snap, if it would have never been undone, would have delayed the emergence of the celestial in earth. probably for a really long time since he got rid of half of all life. That’s crazy to me.

kaliwali

Omg I remember now!! Thank you for the memory from Guardians bc I definitely remember it being in that crazy looking skull. it reminded me of the Reapers in Mass Effect at the time, but yeah. Definitely a Celestial head! And the Thanos snap thing was definitely wild to hear. This movie really felt mind blowing all over the place lol

kaliwali

After watching I can see now why it didn't sit with a lot of MCU fans. It was so much slower and more intimate than anything MCU related before it. It made us really sit with what human are, if they're worth saving, and why they exist to begin with. Which is crazy how intense the worldbuilding really got in this one! I'm glad I decided to watch it with you all too! Now I get to hear everyone's thoughts about it and how it fits into the timeline ✨

rubberkidney

this is where it really became clear that they were steering the mcu away from quality and good story telling

Chris

Turns out it’s really hard to tell a serialized story over this many projects. The more complex a world and its lore gets… greater the odds that all the balls in the air start to thud to the ground, along with the sense of stakes. (Pulling off that trick is one reason why Tolkien was practically a 1 of 1. Also big ups to Steven Erikson’s Malazan Book of the Fallen.) Individual projects may still pop, but it’s why I checked out of season tickets for the MCU…

Daniel Morgan

My best guess as to Peter Quill's father. I think of Celestials as primodials. In mythology, primodials play a role in the creating and destroying worlds chaotically (ie giants like Ymir and Surtr in Norse responsible for forming Midgard and destroying Asgard, and Kronos and Ouranos responsible for creating the heavens and domains above). In this movie, Celestials use life on the planets they created to create more of themselves, much like Ego's goal, so, they're kinda selfish. And guardians of the galaxy one established that there are other lesser celestials that harness things like infinity stones or fuels of transportation. So, long story short, there are all kinds of Celestials. Many of them known as the most physical supreme beings in the MCU, capable of doing whatever they want to life on other planets simply because they originate on some of em (like Ego from his planet, and Knowhere's head, being a mini civilization itself).

Can’t wait to watch it. The Eternals are some of Marvel’s more obscure characters. No one knew about them outside of comic readers but aren’t popular compared to the Avengers, X-Men, etc. The MCU writers hoped this film will give them the same treatment much like the Guardians of the Galaxy from being C tier to A tier to casual viewers but unfortunately wasn’t as liked by many. Fun fact but in comics, Thanos is part of the eternal race but is considered a Deviant due to his mutated purple skin. His father was an eternal and so is his brother, Starfox. Also how crazy that Thanos unintentionally saved earth from a newborn celestial from growing. It’s interesting that even though he’s dead, Thanos still haunts the MCU whether it’s from this film or the motivations of the Flagsmashers in Falcon & The Winter Soldier show.

I would have loved this to be a series rather than a movie. Hour long episode set in different eras of history leading to today. I've also always wondered (within the confines of the MCU) what Phastos might have crafted over the years. Could he be the one who forged the Ten Rings, or was that someone / something else? Could he have forged the Sling Rings the Sorcerers of earth use to open portals? He could potentially be the creator of all mystical tech found on Earth.

Giancarlo Gasparin

The main issue with this movie is that it should’ve been a 10 episode show on Disney+. Way too much story for a movie, imo.

Jonathan D

Thank you for the reaction! Also, this movie ties into another movie way way into the future. I hope you notice whenever you watch it.

Scott Lindsey

When you didn't recognize the winter is coming meme actor I was a bit shocked. I for some reason assumed you had watched Game of Thrones, you really should ;)

Malcolm Ferguson

To me this is easily the worst Marvel movie. I couldn't get into it at all. Glad you liked it though. :)

M1 Maz

There was soooo much to unpack here, and it's late, so I just know I'm gonna have really wild dreams LOL. But okay, I'll definitely need to take some time to digest all the extra lore and world building this one brought into the MCU, but at face value, I really liked this movie! Like you said, brought up a lot of great questions to think about. And just highlighted humanity, and life, and what's worth preserving and fighting for. The Greek mythology references were also an awesome callback to your time in the God of War games! I liked the characters a lot too! There was so much variety with their personalities, and of course a surprise appearance by Angelina Jolie is always welcomed haha. Also, great soundtrack! Literally one guitar riff plays for a second - Kali: "Pink Floyd!" LOL. You've always had the most eclectic music taste!

Lastboyscout73

I enjoy this movie for what it is. Yes, it seems a bit MCU adjacent but if you don't try to think to hard about all the previous movies in the MCU, it has a very interesting reimagining of the universe. I enjoyed them tying these characters to the actual lore of our world. I think it suffered from having so many new characters to try to learn in just one movie, along with a nonlinear timeline going back in forth in the movie. I personally enjoyed it though, as far as MCU movies go, I do rank it towards the bottom but as a stand-alone type of movie, I enjoyed it a lot. And Icarus fulfilled his legend by flying into the sun, yes sad for the character, but I thought it was a neat reference to his legend in real life. Unfortunately, with the lack of success this movie had you probably won't be seeing much of the Celestials, if at all, in future movies. The mid credit scene is a character in the comics called Starfox and if you didn't recognize the actor, it was Harry Styles the singer (from One Direction and now a solo artist) lol. I don't know much about the celestials except for what was said in the break downs I watch after each of the MCU movies but apparently the comics has some deep lore with them. Yes, Dane was played by the same actor that played Jon Snow in Game of Thrones. "Winter is Coming". Icarus also was in GoT as his "brother" so it was a bit of a reunion for the two actors. I am a bit surprised you never watched GoT, it's right up your alley since you loved LoTR, the big difference is, it can be a bit R rated at times and no mixture of mythical races, just some dragons and one other thing that I won't spoil just in case you decide to dive in. It was the show everyone talked about when it was at its height. Dane was supposed to be the comic book character "The Black Knight" and the voice you heard was going to be the new "Blade" but it seems Marvel is pivoting from that now because of the recent failures and them trying not to over saturate the MCU with too many characters. The fan base was getting a bit tired of having to do so much homework to just watch a movie. This is why they have slowed everything down and are trying to put out more contained and quality content. Too try and get that magic back again. I hope they do, I have loved the journey of the MCU, although admittedly, they have had a few misses after Endgame. Final thoughts, if they would have made this a trilogy or something like that and flushed out the characters and gave us time to really get to know them, I think it could have been better. It's hard to meet a bunch of new characters and really feel a lot for them when you are constantly trying to figure out their motivations and personalities in just a 2 1/2 hour movie.

Scott S

Extra kudos to Kali for that quick pick up of a Floyd song.

Scott S

Pretty excited for the next on the hero list.

Jp Davis

This movie definitely was interesting for me as well. I do like the movie and I really enjoyed how each of the characters are. I also love some of the shots in the movie. But I also agree with your view of the actual story. I think it’s definitely interesting. However, very excited for you to watch no way home. One of if not my favorite MCU movie post endgame.

Lawrence Gibson

So, the MCU kind of confused people with this movie. I thought it was a great movie. However, the MCU brought in some comic book stuff. In the comics, Thanos was born to Eternals. And Thanos had a brother, Eros, which we meet at the end of the movie. Thena is the cousin of Thanos in the comics as well. Also, in the comics, Thanos was born a Deviant. Think of it this way, humans that are born with special abilities are called Mutants. Special beings born to Eternals are called Deviants. Now, there are Celestials in the comic books. And in the comic books, they have a roll in the multiverse. Think of them as gardeners attending to a garden. The multiverse being their garden. This movie took some MCU stuff and mixed it with the comic book stuff. A number of people could not get past this. Another problem was the MCU did not slowly guide the audience into the concept of the Eternals. It was just bang! We are going to drop the idea of Celestials and Eternals on the audience and try to do it all in one movie. Here is the funny part, there were reminders of GOT in this movie. The actors that played Ikaris and Dane were actually brothers in GOT. Robb Stark and Jon Snow respectively. Anywho, the end credit we are introduced to the Ebony Blade which belongs to another marvel character known as the Black Knight. Dane Whitman is the Black Knight. In conclusion, I did not care about any of that stuff and just enjoyed the movie for what it was. It's good that you watched this movie. Elements of this movie will be important to know as you continue your MCU journey.

Lawrence Gibson

First of all, I agree with all the comments in this thread. Second, it technically does not fit into the MCU timeline. Finally, even though it does not technically fit into the MCU timeline, you will see as you continue your MCU journey that this movie does play an important part. Cannot go any further without giving away spoilers.

Josh B.

Should she at least start the Netflixverse before No Way Home?

Onno Smits

I like a lot of this movie. The orchestral score, the cinematography, the characters. I enjoy all the historic references in it, and the fun they had with making a lot of old mythology be based on the influence of the Eternals. And even though it's a long movie, I also think the pacing is really good. You mentioned yourself, how nothing in this movie is black-and-white, it's all grey areas. That makes it really interesting in my opinion! The only thing I really dislike is that it's an MCU movie... 😅 It just feels wrong how it retroactively slots itself into the world-building. And the scale is just too grand and all-encompassing for it to be a "stand-alone" movie in the MCU, especially with all new characters. The face you made with the jump-scare when that Deviant showed up in the Amazon rainforest, was absolutely hilarious. I enjoyed that very much. Sorry. 🤣

Onno Smits

Nah, I don't think that small reference is worth such a large divergence/delay. She will get around to the Netflix stuff sometime early next year though! It was on the previous version of her "Superhero Odyssey" as coming up. Things have shifted slightly since she posted that, based on feedback. I'm not a huge fan of the Netflix stuff myself, but I do think she'll really enjoy DD. Unfortunately, I'm afraid she'll absolutely hate JJ, which is actually my favourite among them. 🤷‍♂️

Łukasz Jarczewski

You know, Kali, Mahershala Ali doesn't sound like Samuel L. Jackson. Someone else spoke to Dane, but considering the problems with the production of Blade, you can safely forget about that post credits scene. It's a shame, because Mahershala could have been an awesome Blade. PS. You say you've heard nothing but good reviews about No Way Home? Well, I hate that movie, but I won't be surprised if you like it. Probably because I'm immune to nostalgic bait. I'll skip this watching (I fell asleep out of boredom the second time), but have fun.

kaliwali

it actually finally clicked for me in the very end that he is the Winter is Coming meme guy! I def need to watch GoT eventually

kaliwali

I'm confused on what you mean by "It technically does not fit into the MCU timeline" lol.. Can you explain more?

kaliwali

I swore that sounded like Samuel L. Jackson to me 😅 But if you say it's not him, I believe you. It was just a short little clip. I didn't hear about all the Blade chaos, but that's a shame! And fair enough on No Way Home!

kaliwali

I loved hearing your take on this one! The score, the cinematography, the mythology... All of it was really awesome to me, too! And the grey areas definitely kept me thinking throughout all of it as well. My brain felt a bit fried in the end honestly lol I definitely get you on the MCU fit though! It felt out of place. While I was watching it, all of the YouTube comments from MCU fans after Thor: Ragnarok popped into my head. All the comments saying, "They went too far with the humor, I hated it" and "I wish MCU would take itself more seriously again" and I can't help but wonder if THIS was the product of that feedback from some of the fanbase. Yet it still wasn't met well I guess lol. All the jump scares in this were NOT necessary though 😅🤣 But I'm glad you enjoyed my reaction from them! Thanks for watching!!

kaliwali

Thank you for your personal breakdown of this one! You're right. The MCU really did throw a lot at us all at once with Eternals and Celestials. Its interesting to hear that they brought in and began to really mix some of the comic lore into the MCU world building here! Makes me question why it wasn't a bit more loved even more now lol. But it really was a lot to process in one movie! I haven't seen GoT yet so I didn't get all the actors/actresses. I recognized the Winter is Coming meme guy at the end though finally! I couldn't place him for the longest time, then it finally clicked haha. But honestly, I'm with you. Sometimes you just have to enjoy the ride for what it is! This movie was definitely worth the watch even if it did melt my brain in the process. Thanks for sharing your insights!

kaliwali

I'm glad you loved the characters and shots in this one!! I totally get you on the story. it's very interesting and brain melting, but it is not very straightforward. The time jumps were interesting at first but then it just kind of felt like too much was being thrown at us lol I'm excited for No Way Home as well! I hear nothing but great things about it, so I can't wait!

kaliwali

I definitely agree that if this was a trilogy vs. this huge lore drop it would have made for an epic one! This definitely felt like way too much information and tragedy stuffed into 2.5 hours. But I still enjoyed it for the music, choreography and overall intimacy! Icarus flying into the sun definitely felt like a poignant nod to his legend, but I didn't quite understand at the time why he felt it necessary to live up to that one lol. It felt like a really tragic, sad moment. I definitely didn't get all of the GoT actors just bc I haven't seen it yet! Maybe eventually I can get into that show when I have time for another huge undertaking! I know there are a lot of seasons now. But I'll keep it in mind for down the road for sure! I could have sworn that was Nick Fury, but the Blade reference makes sense. I'm sad that it didn't end up working out.. I guess Marvel had to make those calls because of audience fatigue but I wish that they would have just let some of these films breathe instead of making quick Cancel calls. But it's cool to see that so much of the comic book references were really starting to come in during this film apparently! It makes me wonder even more why it didn't land well with fans since most of them were super into the comic books to begin with. I guess it was just still riding the wave of Endgame being the best film ever and nothing could really live up to it. I loved the tone shift in this one a lot though! It feels like what fans were begging for. Sometimes real, something legendary, something quietly moving.

kaliwali

I love that you picked up n that!! There really is soooo much to unpack in this movie though lol. My head was absolutely spinning at the end of it all. But I'm with you that even just at face value, it really is a fascinating story about humanity, life, and what is worth fighting for! Which definitely had me vibing with it, too! Yessss. Pink Floyd was constantly blaring in my home growing up! I have love/hate memories of PF and some songs lol. But 'Time' has always had a special place in my soul and I could recognize it anywhere 🤣🔥 Seeing Angelina Jolie pop up in this one honestly felt like a fever dream mixed with the epic Pink Floyd music LOL. But it was very welcome ✨

Lawrence Gibson

I do not want to give away any spoilers. So let me try to put this another way. The Eternals comes before Captain America: Brave New World. These two movies, even though they are in the Multiverse Saga phase, are setting us up for the third phase which the MCU is calling the Mutant Phase. First, there was the Infinity Saga Phase. Then, the MCU hit us with the Multiverse Saga Phase. Eventually, the MCU will enter the Mutant phase. So, even though this movie was a cool story, "most" of what happened in this movie has nothing to do with the Mutant phase of the MCU. That's really all I want to say at this time. Also, I took a look at your 'Superhero Odyssey' Timeline. I am glad to see you will be watching a lot of X-men stuff. I think the order is just fine. I understand people's frustration with leaving out the Defenders. However, the MCU has just become too overwhelming. Kaliwali, if you decided to watch every movie in the MCU and every TV show on Disney+, you would not have time for anything else! So, just keep doing what you are doing. Well, I hope I cleared up at least some of your confusion.

Paul T

Originally I was going to watch this movie because you watched it and I thought you might give me an idea what the hell is going on in it because you always have awesome insight and views on things but I'm kind of debating that now. Reading some of the comments, some things are cleared up with the movie but it just still doesn't make sense to me. It's not one of my more favorite movies at all! Not even close LOL I will probably watch it just because you did and again like I said because you have insight like better than anybody I've watched do reactions to movies so for you I will probably watch it along with you just to maybe get some sort of an idea what's going on but I doubt it will be any different on my views of it than it is now LOL sorry just rambling I guess

Ricardo de Leon

It was an enjoyable film with incredible cinematography, a fascinating showcase of anthropology, and an epic cast. Yet as others mentioned, it was a lot to take in one go. It could've been better served as a cinematic series (it had major Game of Thrones vibes and some of the leads). I'm curious where they go from here. The beauty of the MCU is that watching later films brings a new appreciation for films that have come out before.

Darian Harman

Tl;dr: I think Zhao did a phenomenal job with this film. Moon Knight was the first comic book I've ever read, but five minutes after reading that, I read an Eternals comic and fell in LOVE, even though my little-kid brain had not one semblance of an idea, at the time, as to how to process the ridiculous cosmology being explored in its pages. I say, "ridiculous", because if you're familiar with the fallacious, borderline farcical works of Von Daniken, then you have some inkling as to what was inspiring Jack Kirby around this time. Whereas Von Daniken was creating charlatanical narratives in an attempt to turn reality into fiction, Jack Kirby employed similar ideas to create a fictional world through which cosmological and philosophical concepts of that sort could be entertainingly explored. When it was announced that Chloe Zhao would be directing this, I was all kinds of excited; but between knowing the kind of filmmaker she is, and already being familiar with Eternals, I expected this film to be at least moderately divisive before even the first trailer was released. For those who do not know, she is deeeeeeeeeeeep into manga and anime, so much so, that just yesterday, it was announced that she and Nicolas Gonda have launched Kodansha Studios. This new studio's focus is on adapting manga/novels into live-action films; and if you know next-to-nothing about manga, as most westerners, it should suffice for me to say: There is a manga for literally EVERYTHING. Drama, Romance, Cooking, Academia, Figure Skating, World War II, etc, etc. Where I grew up in Misawa, Japan, I was obsessed with Dragon Ball, of course, but eeeeeeeveryone was obsessed with a basketball anime called Slam Dunk!! When Zhao was younger, she developed a very strong affinity for mythological and allegorical storytelling, but her film career did not immediately veer into that direction until Eternals, a film the likes of which she'd always wanted to make. By my speculation, she likely debated about how to go about this film for quite a while. You can either gradually dole out the mythology/lore over the course of several films/series, or go full bore and headfirst into (almost) all of it in one go. Clearly, she chose to do the latter, and in my view, she F'ing nailed it. I could not have been happier with the film she made, but I completely, completely understand how this one can be too off-putting, challenging, boring, overwhelming, confusing, or any other "ing" for many people. I think my "ing" is: Heartwarming. That somebody would put this much effort into something that almost nobody knows anything about, and to do it so beautifully, with so much reverence for this mythology is, to me, just awesome. I cherish this film, because it is probably the only one like it that we'll ever get from Marvel. At any rate, I am reeeally excited to watch this reaction in 3, 2, 1, aaaaand I'm pressing play NOW!

Paul T

I tried, I got about an hour into it and couldn't watch anymore 😕🤷‍♂️

Noah Schmid

the question you have about the celestials and there purpose are the same questen we all have about our Universe "why is there a Universe at all and why dose it what it dose in the first place"🤷🏼‍♂️ the celestials are just the explanation for the Marvel Universe. (thats why I understand Ikaris, its hard but unfortunately the current circle of life)

Noah Schmid

I absolutly love this movie and your reaction👏🏻👏🏻💛
