I'm walking away from this trilogy with a newfound love for Batman. Which I'm not surprised lol. It was epic, painful, heartwarming, and everything I thought they would be and so much more. Watching Bruce break, rebuild, and rise felt like more than just an epic superhero arc. It felt like watching someone claw their way back to themselves. The one they lost along the way behind the mask. Behind the symbol. There was something so real about seeing a man who has lost literally everything still drag his heart out of the dark and find sparks of hope in him that refuse to just give up and die. And I felt all of it within me thanks to Nolan. The grief, the grit, the courage. By the end, when Bruce finally let go.. I realized this trilogy wasn't just about justice. It's also about learning when to lay down your burdens and choose to live your life again. For you. It left me feeling inspired, teary eyed (of course LOL), and so thankful that I finally sat down to watch these films. Thank you all so much for joining me!Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/RWijaI1TmSgI watched this on HBO Max

Covering my mouth and doing my best Bane impression “do you feel in charge?” The Joker messes with you mentally but Bane literally breaks Batman physically also. Sometimes I’m not sure who is more scary.

LeSteeler

The greatest film trilogy of all time right there with LOTR...can't wait until you get to Matt Reeves' The Batman with Robert Pattinson as Batman and then the Reeves/Lauren LeFranc led The Penguin show with Colin Farrell as Penguin. These projects just like TDK trilogy transcend the genre and wins awards, obviously big at the box office and with views on the show. The Batman - Part II is releasing on 10/1/2027 and the way the script is being talked about it will have even more success and make over $1B at the box office and sweep the awards with maybe even a Best Picture shot. The acclaim these projects have from critics/general audiences/fans speaks for itself.

13 years later, and my brother and I still speak to each other in Bane's voice. It's even more fun to quote other iconic movie lines as Bane. I was already a fan of Anne Hathaway by the time this film came out, but she blew me away in this film. I look forward to this re-watch.

Robert da Spruce

Let’s gooooo! Can’t wait to watch your reaction Kali!

Steve Mercier

A lot of people love the Michelle Pfeiffer Selina Kyle/Catwoman from Batman Returns (1992); and no disrespect to Miss Pfeiffer, but that version of the character has nothing to do with the comic book character that I know and love. THIS is my live-action Catwoman: Anne Hathaway is perfect in this role, capturing every nuance and personality trait of Selina Kyle. Zoë Kravitz's iteration from Matt Reeves' The Batman (2022) isn't bad either; but, this is still my favorite. Oh...and the rest of the movie rocks, too.

Richard

So, a quick history of Catwoman. There have been many actresses that have played her, starting with 3 different ones in the 1960s during the Batman TV series. The best movie one by far in my opinion was Michelle Pfeiffer who played her in 1992's Batman returns. Really an iconic portrayal, complete with whip lol. They really kind leaned into the whole male fantasy aspect of this attractive antihero. Glad you enjoyed these films, you can tell a lot of work went into them.

Nick

Can't wait to watch this Kali! This is bar none my favorite superhero series (partly because it doesn't feel so superhero centric!). You have now seen some of Christopher Nolan's best hits: Interstellar, The Prestige, The Dark Knight trilogy. All of his movies are really quality and I think you have three of his best remaining for future watchalongs! Memento - the film that put him on the map (and my personal favorite). A revenge tale about grief and meaning, told in a non-linear way Inception - an action blockbuster in an elevated way. A total thriller with a great cast and a mind-bending premise Oppenheimer - his magnum opus probably. It's not just a biopic, it's a commentary on so much in the world and an incredibly well-made film with some truly powerhouse performances

La Baanga

My first time watching this one, I was a bit disappointed that Bruce got such a perfect and happy ending since I thought it was just too optimistic for a Batman story. Having now aged into my 40s and with the benefit of having binged the entire trilogy multiple times, I now love the pure catharsis it brings on the heels of the overwhelming bleakness of The Dark Knight. As a trilogy, it does the "It's a Wonderful Life" thing where they put you through the emotional spin cycle for acts 1 and 2 before using act 3 to reward us for having invested so much love into this character.

Thomas Blake

Could we please add the movie 'Warrior (2011)' with Mr. Tom Hardy to the watch list, or at least include it at in a vote list? :)

Łukasz Jarczewski

Nolan's films are unique. You either love them or you don't. There is also this strange case, quite successful, but when you look at the flawed script with a cool eye, the plot begs to be pointed out for its inaccuracies. I know people for whom this is their favorite part of Nolan's Batman trilogy, but they repeat every time that it's not the best of the trilogy, good guilty pleasure . I especially feel sorry for the female roles. Catwoman is bland and serves no real purpose (except to kill Bane, and that's it), and I can't keep a straight face when Talia dies, it makes me laugh every time. Marion Cotillard is an Oscar-winning actress, her potential completely wasted. I would say that this is the Nolan film I like the least. Tenet also has a strange script, but it engages me more.

Matt Rowland

Kali, what a wonderful reaction. Watched and listened while I worked this morning, and your reactions were great. When I left the theater in 2012 after watching this, I liked the film but I remember walking out thinking how much I loved the ending - it was one of the most emotionally satisfying endings I've ever seen. I tear up every time! Can't wait to see what's next. More Nolan movies? Interstellar maybe? 😁

2026-09-07 13:00 Great reaction! U should watch the Batman with Robert Pattinson next🙏 it’s probably the best Batman movie outside of the dark knight.

I echo recommendations of the newest Batman movie with Robert Pattinson. One of the things that Batman is best known for from the comics is his detective work (DC comics started out as Detective Comics) and as such one of his monikers is "The worlds greatest detective", and the Pattinson Batman is one of the movies that showcases that side of Batman the best, in my opinion.

LeSteeler

Batman can beat a lot of superpowered heroes and villains, he is at peak human strength/speed/capabilities/durability/stamina, but it's his mind and will/resiliency that does it...the money helps but it's not the main thing.

Fred Aczon

Bruce telling Gordon he was his hero all along always get me. Great eye on recognizing Tom Hardy so quickly. Especially when you can only see his eyes. There's been a long running joke that nobody knows what he really sounds like, because the dude loves doing voices. He sounds different in every movie. Anne Hathaway's Catwoman is underrated. The way she switches voices and persona on a dime is so fun. Talia Al Ghul has always been important to Batman lore, to the point she's the mother of Bruce's child currently in the comics. I had already accepted the fact that Nolan makes changes to the Batman lore a lot, and I was ok with that and still on board. Bane as Ra's Al Ghul kid? No Talia? I can accept it, I'm still enjoying the movie. But then Nolan misdirects us yet again by bringing Talia perfectly in the third act? I was geeking out.

KJ

There's a lot to like about this movie. But I have a lot of issues with this movie too. Nolan cherry picked from a few different batman stories but lost a lot of the core of those stories in the process. I also think the strength of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight lies a lot with his brother Jonathan Nolan being a writer for them. His involvement was greatly reduced in TDKR. As a result decisions were made about the characters that I fundamentally disagree with.

LeSteeler

Bane was good in this but there are better versions in other mediums. Tom Hardy's eye acting was great. Wait until you see Robert Pattinson's eye acting when he is Batman in the Matt Reeves film. The Batman woulda been perfect to react to around Halloween time and The Penguin after but I can't wait until next year lmao...The Batman - Part II might be a Christmas time dark film because it does not have a big time jump after those two projects. In 2027 Part II releases on 10/1/27 so maybe after a few months it will be on HBO/HBO Max or available to buy on Amazon or whatever, so we can get a reaction to that around Christmas 2027 or maybe in the 2028 New Year. Robert Pattinson who is in Nolan's Tenet will also be in The Odyssey film by Nolan that releases 7/17/26. Pattinson also gave Nolan a book about Oppenheimer on the Tenet wrap party that gave Nolan the idea of the Oppenheimer film.

LeSteeler

You definitely have to watch the other Chris Nolan films u haven't seen too. He uses a lot of the same actors in different films so u will see most of these actors again.

Kristoffer

Kali i LOVE, the new format... but, I think its gonna be neccesary to have subtitles on now, I can't really hear what characters say, because english is not my first language, and its also very hard to hear when either characters mumble or a loud sound or music plays when they speak! I think me and many others would love to have subtitles, if its not an inconvenience for you!

KamikazeCDN

Michael Caine always breaks me during the funeral and his "I failed you" line. He was so good during the whole trilogy but that moment, no matter how many times I watch it gets me. You pretty much had Catwoman figured out. She's like an antihero, morally grey. Yes she is a thief and is typically more interested in her own needs but she also isn't against working with Batman or doing something "good" either. I have always been a bit on the fence with Bane in this movie. Tom Hardy did the best he could with what he was given. I've never been huge on his mask, I like the one he wears in the comics/games. It's not vital for his survival or blocking pain, it's just an intimidation thing. Bane is also often (but not always) associated with something called "Venom" in the comics and other movies/media that basically super charges him. It's not all the time and with this more "grounded" version I can see why it was left out. Though in general it tends to go along with a larger than life version of the character and this one feels sorta "just a dude with training that is ruthless and terrifying but still just a dude" in a way. He feels flat after Joker or Scarecrow in a way. I remember when this movie came out everyone was constantly mocking Tom Hardy's Bane voice, which I think is another big issue for the character. As for Robin, it was a fun little tease but as far as I know there was never really plans for a Robin spinoff or anything by Christopher Nolan since he doesn't make sequels (besides this trilogy). So I don't entirely know why they even did it at the end of the day. I believe Nolan even vetoed when the studio wanted to make a Robin series in the Dark Knight universe.

FUN FACT: The big guy that was fighting Blake at the cop hole was Christopher Judge aka Kratos, I came from your God of War playthroughs and glad I joined you on your reaction journey, do you think you will ever get back to gaming as well, I think the Spider-Man games are a good next step since you know more about him now, and once ya get more into DC ya gotta play the Batman Arkham games as the Spider-Man ones took big inspiration from them.

The Amazing Webhead

Good reaction! A great end to a great trilogy! They gave us a rare occasion where Batman gets a happy ending. Normally, Batman never gives up the cowl as he basically wants to dedicate his life to fight crime until Gotham is crime free but that’s a never ending battle so he just won’t stop. It’s part of his tragedy that he wouldn’t get a normal life as he can’t let go of his trauma. However, it’s great to see a story where he can move on. You also met Catwoman, Bane, & Ra Al Ghul’s daughter Talia who are all from the lore. Bane is one of Batman’s most iconic enemies. He first appeared in the comic storyline: Knightfall were just like in the film, he broke his back. Considering this trilogy is meant to be based in reality, we don’t see any of the more fantastical side of the Batman world. A example being that Bane in the comics & other media uses a drug named “Venom” that turns him into a superhuman. Also Bane was never part of the League of Shadows in the lore. That was something that was created for the film. Talia Ah Ghul is an enemy/love interest for Batman in the comics but not the main one as she is very complicated. She likes Bruce but usually wants to follow her father’s beliefs so it makes their dynamic complicated. Blake being named Robin was a Easter egg to Batman’s sidekick Robin who Christopher Nolan didn’t want to use in his vision. I think you’ll love Robin once you see more Batman content. I never got to say but they based the trilogy on several iconic storylines. Batman Begins takes inspiration from “Batman Year One.” Dark Knight takes elements from “The Long Halloween” for Two Face’s story & “The Killing Joke” for Joker. Lastly, Rises is based on “The Dark Knight Returns” where a older Bruce gets out of retirement, “Knightfall” for Bane, & “No Man’s Land” where all criminals take over the city. I would love to see you watch Batman 1989 & it’s sequel Batman Returns starring Michael Keaton as Batman.

The Amazing Webhead

I wanted to dedicate this comment for Catwoman aka Selina Kyle. Selina is an amazing character in the lore. She is Batman’s main love interest/soulmate in the comics & most media so it made sense for them to be endgame in the film. They have an iconic chemistry & were the original enemies to lovers story. They may be on opposite sides but they have a lot in common. Bruce has had many girlfriends over the years but he clearly loves Selina to the point where he even said in a comic that he love her in every universe. They do follow the will they won’t they trope though as fans waited 85 years for DC to make them endgame & are still waiting lol. She has had some awesome stories & I think you would love her more when you watch more Batman content down the road.

Nina

I love this movie. Especially Gary Oldman as Gordon. (You need to watch some more of his movies. He's actually even more famous for playing villains. And people call him the biggest chameleon, because he's just so versatile) But the movie does have some issues. How did Bruce get back into Gotham after he escaped from the cave? Can someone answer that in a way that makes sense? He didn't even have his suit, so he sneaked into Gotham as Bruce Wayne!? Bane took his suit after bringing him to the cave - what did he do with it? I did like Bane though. What I didn't like was his death. That was very anticlimactic. But my favorite scene of his was his first fight scene with Batman. Bane is more of a physical threat than all the other villains. And the fight scene was so well done because there was no music. A very interesting stylistic choice. And because of that you could hear and feel every single punch from Bane. And the ending was beautiful. The idea that Batman could be anybody, and the legacy continues. While Bruce continues to live his life. Even though...Bruce pretending to be dead is a bit silly. He's a famous billionaire sitting out in the open drinking coffee. People will recognize him immediately and realize he's not dead 😂

Nina

DEATH - BY EXILE !!! Crane/ Scarecrow is hilarious. 🤣

Nina

You need to watch "Brokeback Mountain". Anne Hathaway is in it with Heath Ledger. And "Ten things I hate about you." Joseph Gordon-Levitt with Heath Ledger 🥰

Chris

Interesting. I don't have a deep attachment to the characters in a broader sense, but I've always felt like the script/story for this movie (unlike the other two) is only half-baked (i.e., there are a number of bigger themes it gestures at, but then... doesn't really say much of anything about them). I wonder if what you say is a part of the reason why.

KJ

I could write a lot. A LOT lol. It's possible Heath Ledger's passing meant a big change of course for TDKR. I also think Nolan mentally checked out by this point. I dint see him returning to franchise movies since he's solely been focused on unique projects that are either original stories or his own spin on historical events.

Kristoffer

I can definently see why Bane would not be for some people, but actually Tom Hardys preformance as Bane is definently one of the highlights of the movie. He has so many iconic lines, and people definently appreciated this follow up to Heath Ledgers villain role, because that was some hard shoes to fill. "Ahhh you think darkness is your ally..."

Joseph Olson

I'm not a nuclear physicist, but I believe that just jostling around a nuclear bomb will not set it off. It has to be detonated by its own trigger in order to create a chain reaction. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. This movie was the weakest in the trilogy, but any follow up to The Dark Knight was going to suffer by comparison, just as any villain would pale in comparison to Heath Ledger's Joker. I enjoyed the Robert Pattinson portrayal of Batman, but I do prefer the Christopher Nolan trilogy to that film. It's good in its own way however, and is well worth a watch. I'll be watching along if you decide you want to react to it on your channel.

Amko Basic

First of all my favorite moment was when that arrow jump scare came you scared your poor cat LOL! Secondly I like how the first thought you had after the Talia reveal was that she slept with him. Sometimes I wonder what goes on in that brain of yours xD Even though I have seen this movie a couple of times even I was pretty cooked at the end with alfred standing over Bruces grave. So don't worry about it. The only thing that I find disappointing about these movies I don't think the fighting choreography is that great in any of them. But I love the trilogy anyway!

kaliwali

Hope you love it when you can! Happy Friday!

kaliwali

RIGHT? Just body slammed his entire batman being over his knee 😭🔥

JoneZ

Been a joy to watch your reaction to these, such a phenomenal trilogy. And whilst I personally enjoyed Tom Hardy as Bane, I think the plot didn't lend itself to make Bane much more than a chaotic goon in this narrative. In contrast to the Joker that just blew our minds away, one came off as a convincing anarchist and the other was a façade before the reveal of the real villain perhaps. All the sanctimonious preaching and grand speeches, whilst we as a viewer knew it was a lie, just made his agency feel confusing, for a good reason, but it didnt leave as memorable a performance as our previous villains. Still a good movie though, but the Dark Knight is one of the greatest movies ever made, a hard act to follow. These three movies have a very different vibe than the super hero movies that came in the following decade, but id highly recommend you see Watchmen some time as well, as it also has a very unique atmosphere and vibe.

Shawn Bertucci

I love the Nolan Batman trilogy, and I would highly recommend that you check out The Batman with Robert Pattinson as it's equally good along with the follow up mini-series The Penguin.

Lastboyscout73

I only have 1 question....How did you know that was Tom Hardy the first time you saw him? The first time I watched it, I didn't know it was him until they exposed his face later in the movie. He really beefed his body up for this because overall, he's not a big guy. Also, Nolan made Batman imo less of a comic book type movie. It's not near as "campy" as some of the other Batman movies before it. It feels way more serious to me. I'm not saying that's bad, it just comes across more of a serious movie than a Superhero type movie. Nolan is a great director, I look forward to you watching a few of his other movies he's made. A lot of them will mess with your mind a bit. He really likes to turn his movies into puzzles your brain has to solve. According to the map you laid out about what you are watching next in the comic genre, it says you were doing X-Men next. Are you skipping that now and doing Hawkeye first? I'm chomping at the bit for you to get to those movies.

Dude Longcouch

And thus concludes the Nolan trilogy, and your first introduction to Batman. This movie, while being my least favorite of the Nolan trilogy, shares similar themes (and a few cheeky direct references) to my favorite Batman graphic novel, "The Dark Knight Returns" by Frank Miller. I'm always quick to recommend the DCAU animated movie adaptations of that story (it comes in Part 1 and Part 2). It's a very strong adaptation, and one of the best animated DCAU Batman movies in general. It's not considered "canonical" to the main comics, it's kind of an Elseworlds story where, like this movie, Batman is older and comes out of retirement after a long history of crimefighting has already transpired. But the tone and circumstances and everything else are quite different. Anyway, there's a whole slew of amazing Batman content waiting out there for you. If you're not sure what to watch next, that's my recommendation.

M1 Maz

With the new format, we're seeing the movie as she does. Meaning if she turns on subtitles for viewers, then she has to watch the movie with subtitles too. The fact that she doesn't currently, means she enjoys it more this way. So I'd rather not want her experience of watching these movies to change. Not to mention all the people who don't like subtitles are forced to watch the movie that way too I get your situation, but if you need better audio clarity, I'd just recommend watching those movies in the old format that she still provides :)

M1 Maz

What an amazing conclusion to this trilogy! I don't like comparing haha, so focusing on this movie on it's own, there was so much that I loved. The pacing, the tension, the music were all so good. And at this point, we've gotten to know Bruce / Batman so well that seeing him struggle so hard at times in this one just hit that much harder. The ending tho too, that left me feeling so electric! An complete rollercoaster of emotions. And the way Hans Zimmer had those drums absolutely hit when Alfred saw Bruce was amazing Also, Anne Hathaway... oh my. She was definitely one of my celeb crushes back in my late teens, and I had never even seen this movie LOL

kaliwali

I actually had no idea that Robert Pattinson played a Batman role! I want to see that for sure!

Nihildum

I have a lot of problems with this movie, but that end sequence is superb. Prime Nolan. Makes it worth it.

kaliwali

Anne Hathaway was incredible as Catwoman in this!! I really loved her a lot and was not expecting it AT all haha. I haven't seen Pfeiffer's Catwoman yet but maybe I'll be able to compare someday!

kaliwali

I have a lot of recommendations for Inception and Oppenheimer! I believe also Memento as well, but I forgot about it and can't find it on my current list so I'll add it! These movies were all so incredible and definitely an entire experience! Loved them!

kaliwali

Yesss, I agree. I really enjoyed this ending and it really did feel like a fitting way to say goodbye to Bruce's Batman in this trilogy. They definitely put us through an entire emotional rollercoaster just to get here and it felt very well deserved 🩷

kaliwali

It's crazy to me that some people DONT love these films! I don't understand how! They're beautiful, dark, and extremely powerful. I loved all of them so much!

kaliwali

I've actually seen Interstellar already! It was my second or third reaction that I've ever done! 👀😅 You can find it in the very beginning of the Movie Vault playlist if you want to check it out :) But yes, these movies were absolutely incredible! Definitely an emotionally satisfying ending after all the heartache these past three films!

kaliwali

I didn't realize until these comments that Robert Pattinson played a Batman! I gotta see that for sure!

kaliwali

Yesss 🔥 I think that's what makes Bane literally picking him up and snapping him over his knee so terrifying.. Because HOW

kaliwali

I think I've been watching too much Tom Hardy lately because I noticed with the voice and the eyes right away. Honestly moreseo the voice. I heard that little 'twang' he does and he did a similar one when he voiced Venom as well. So I knew right away! And I love that you weren't expecting the Talia twist as well but for different reason!! Honestly genius lol

kaliwali

Ahh interesting! I don't know any Batman lore (this is my first as you know lol) so I can't really judge. But I get it and why it may be disappointing from that side.

kaliwali

Yessss! I first noticed Tom Hardy's amazing eye acting in Mad Max. But this role really just set that in stone. He's great with the eyes haha. And his voice that he does! I kept hearing Venom, probably because I just recently watched those movies. So the little twang he did reminded me so much of the Venom voice and I couldn't unsee at some parts so maybe that ended up being my biggest reason for getting disconnected from Bane? Either way, he played the role VERY well. But I honestly can't wait to see Robert Pattinson's Batman! Didn't know that was even a thing until these comments today!

kaliwali

Yeah to kind of echo Maz here, I definitely get where you're coming from!! But I would have to watch the movie that way as well which is a problem sometimes! I don't always watch with subtitles, so I think the best way would probably be the older format if you're having audio issues and I'm not watching with the subtitles on! That's why I still do both 🩷

kaliwali

I loved Catwoman in this movie! Anne Hathaway just played it all so well and I love her morally grey compass because honestly that's so typical of a cat LOL I'm with you on the mask tho. I think Tom Hardy did amazing with his eye acting, but there was just something that I wanted more of. Maybe I'm just spoiled from the epic Joker villain we had last movie and I watched this one too quickly after. But I also kept hearing Venom's voice and that's honestly what tipped me off that it was Tom Hardy right away! He has that same twang in his voice for Venom and then I couldn't unhear him the whole time which threw me off a few times LOL. Because Venom is all jokes and I could never take him seriously with the banter. So interesting to hear that Bane is also associated with Venom in the comics.

kaliwali

OMG I didn't even recognize him! 👀I need to go back and watch that moment again lol. Thanks for pointing it out! And yes! I am hopping into a new game again pretty soon actually. I 've been working on getting all of my reuploads transferred first, but those are finally almost complete!

kaliwali

I couldn't unhear Venom's voice and I pinpointed that as the reason why I couldn't take him as seriously LOL. I haven't seen the comic Bane, but I get it!

kaliwali

I really loved that Batman got a happy ending here. It felt so deserved after all the heartbreak and loss that he went through all of these movies up to this point! It feels very, very earned and satisfying! Especially after the Spider-Man films where he can never catch a single break LOL I didn't realize Bane was such an iconic villain! I've never even heard of him until this movie. Whereas Joker I've definitely heard of, but it's probably because Heath Ledger played it so well? Thank you for sharing and for hanging out for this epic one!

kaliwali

I love that!! Does Catwoman have her own movies or is it just within the Batman films/shows?

Darian Harman

Funny side note that I don't think anyone has touched upon in the comments thus far: You said, "The fact that he used his Batman voice, even when he was alone". That always tickled me, too. There is an excellent animated series called Batman Beyond, in which Bruce Wayne is an old man, and a young protege of his assumes the mantle. It takes the stylized, Film Noir approach of the original animated series, but turns it into more of a "tech noir" series, given that it's many years into the future. There is a villain in the series named Shriek. He is a genius sound engineer who invents all kinds of ridiculous audiological/acoustic technology. Eventually, there is an altercation in which he attacks Bruce Wayne, and puts him in the hospital. Whilst in the hospital, Bruce begins to have hallucinations, and appears to be losing his sense of reality. The voices he's hearing are telling him to jump out of a window, continuously calling him, "Bruce". They eventually discover that there is one of Shriek's acoustic devices hidden within one of Bruce's bandages. Yada, yada, yada, a WHOLE lot of craziness happens, but Bruce doesn't give in to the voice. When his protege asks him how he knew the voices weren't hallucinations, he says, "Because I don't call myself Bruce". Love. It!

kaliwali

It's so crazy to picture Gary Oldman as a villain in any role. I only knew him from Harry Potter before watching these movies, but I absolutely loved him in both. I get the love for him and definitely need to see more! Bane's death was so anticlimactic! And I think I narrowed down my 'issue' with him. I watched Venom not too long ago and I immediately recognized Bane's voice as Tom Hardy's because they sound VERY similar. Venom is much deeper and raspy, but the same accent/twang is there and I noticed right away! So hearing him talk sometimes, I felt like I was hearing Venom make a joke and I had trouble disconnecting from that which is unfortunate. I definitely loved the ending, though. Batman deserved this after all the pain and loss.

kaliwali

I looooved his performance as Bane! The eyes, the voice. But I think I pinpointed my 'issue' with him. His voice was too much like Venom from his Venom films! I watched those not too long ago so I recognized the voice right away as Tom Hardy's because they sound so similar and after that I couldn't unsee Venom lol. But I did love him in this, don't get me wrong! I think I just couldn't immerse myself fully because Venom spoiled the voice a bit.

kaliwali

Ahh that makes sense about the nuclear bomb! I was so nervous everytime it got slammed around LOL Apparently I really need to see Robert Pattinson's Batman now!

kaliwali

The jump arrow scare LOL. And nobody knows where this mind goes 😅 Alfred broke my heart so many times in this movie..

kaliwali

I actually agree about the plot not doing Bane any favors. I also think my biggest personal issue was that all I heard was Venom's voice when he talked lol. Which was just unfortunate for me. And yes, it was hard to swallow a lot of what Bane was preaching because it was a lie from the start. Why tell people they are free when you KNOW the bomb will detonate in 4 months regardless. It just felt very contradicting to me as well and I found myself more frustrated than anything. But yes, regardless. These movies were all so special in their own ways! I loved them A LOT

kaliwali

I'd love to check out Pattinson's Batman! Didn't even know it existed until these comments!

kaliwali

I knew right away even before they took off the mask because HIS VOICE ! It had that same sly 'twang' that he does for Venom and his own characters and it is what initially tipped me off. That's why you can see me possibly smirk a little when he starts talking. I was wondering if it was Tom Hardy's voice and then when they took off the bag and I saw his eyes I just knew. Mad Max gave us SO many epic Tom Hardy facial expressions so between the two of those films. I had him pinpointed very quickly! And I actually love that the Nolan films were so dark, mysterious and serious. They were full of deep messages about worth, justice, and pain. But I can see what you mean about this being less of a "Superhero" film and more of just a serious film about a Batman guy. I really enjoyed it a lot tho! X-Men is next on the map, but I don't think I'll make it through Hawkeye and Guardians Christmas in time without really crunching my schedule up. I've been on the verge of burnout a bit lately so I'll be pushing the X-Men until after the holidays :)

kaliwali

Thank you for the recommendation!! I loved these films as well 🔥 (clearly lol)

kaliwali

Yesss, it's so hard to compare each movie to the next. Especially in a trilogy where they are meant to be enjoyed together as one whole story rather than picked apart. So I agree with you there! That's amazing that you're just now seeing Anne Hathaway in these movies!! She played such a great Catwoman and I really loved her in the role! Definitely wasn't ever expecting to see her in this time of film lol

Matt Rowland

Probably nothing you want to see....

Kali, in my day job, I actually work for our national security enterprise here in the U.S., and while my site deals in non-nuclear components, I can assure you that one of the biggest things we do when developing our country's nuclear stockpile is to make sure they are as safe as they can be. For classification and security reasons I can't dive into details, lol, but do rest assured that they are made to be as safe as possible in the event of an accident.

Well I know what I'm doing tonight! Watching your interstellar reaction! How did I miss this? Lol

I enjoyed this trilogy, but I do feel this was the weaker of the three. From what I have read, Nolan was content with TDK, but the studio kept pressuring him to make a third movie. Rather than let him cook, I'm sure the studio got on his nerves, and his heart wasn't fully into the production. Similar to what Sony did to Sam Raimi with Spider-Man 3. Glad you enjoyed the movie and trilogy overall.

The Amazing Webhead

Mostly in the Batman films, shows, & games. There was a Catwoman movie in 2004 but it isn’t about Selina nor not connected to Batman whatsoever. It wasn’t good either lol.

The Amazing Webhead

No problem! Also yes Bane isn’t as known as Joker. He is popular in the comic community/Batman fan base. Joker on the other hand, even before Heath Ledger played him was so well known to the public.

I knew what this would be before I even clicked on it :p Kali, it's a CollegeHumor comedy skit, parodying a scene from this movie. It's actually based on a concept that you yourself commented on during the reaction, so you might actually find it pretty funny, I dunno. Just know that it's quite R-rated, so don't watch it with your kid nearby.

When Alfred sobs over failing the Waynes... then, you have my permission to cry.

So yeah... this is definitely considered the weakest of the three, and I do have some issues with it. Unlike a lot of criticism, I actually did enjoy Hardy's Bane, and "the voice" that caused so much hate. My issues come with the plot which has Batman simply quitting after Rachael and Harvey died. And then Alfred quitting ? This left me scratching my head. Bits of this seemed to be influenced by The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller which was about a 50 yr old Batman coming out of retirement. But he quit due to the physical strain, which is apparent in Nolan's Batman. Yet the book handled this "rise" better than the film which feels overly long. I loved the Bane sequences, particularly the stock exchange and the stadium (that's the Pittsburgh Steelers old stadium and players down (near) your neck of the woods Kali !) I thought Catwoman was handled exceptionally, far better than Burton's ridiculous half-cat half-woman. She is Catwoman because she is a cat burgling thief, not because she thinks she is a cat ! And I don't know why they crow-barred JGL in as Robin. Robin has always been Bruce's teenage ward. They would have been better served with a young Tim Drake that fits this mould of a kid that figured out who Batman was and just turned up in costume in the cave one day, or even Carrie Kelley, a young teen gymnast that saves Batman in The Dark Knight Returns. Nolan's version felt a bit forced and does not really pay itself off. I think this movie standing separate and on its own (with tweaks obviously) would be far more highly rated. But following the two films before it, it feels a bit tired and a bit flabby around the edges (just like me !)

Code Monkey

Apologies. It's comedy sketch based on that final scene with Batman, Bane and Talia.

This is one of those movies where, if I look at it objectively, I can definitely see a number of flaws (especially compared to the first two), but I love everything else so much, I can overlook them. My biggest issue, as others in these comments have brought up, is that, despite a great performance from Tom Hardy, I feel Bane was kind of wasted as a villain, especially after the twist with Talia (which I DID like, despite that). That said, I love Bruce's story, Officer Blake's story, Gordon's story, and Catwoman. So overall, I still love this movie, and the 3 films viewed together tell a great overarching story.

Michael Enos

Check out Juno Temple(Ted Lasso) as Selina's friend, Jen.

I really liked JGL's character in this, but yeah, the "Robin" thing at the end definitely felt fanservice-y, and wasn't needed (though it didn't personally bother me).

Justyn

Man this movie is...kinda goofy 🤣

Marty McGee

It always just felt like an homage to me and not like Blake was actually Robin.

Marty McGee

There are some flaws in this one including some confusing edits. But I do still enjoy it a lot. I just don't really see Alfred leaving. That's my only issue. He's always supported Bruce even as Batman. He's always called him out on things, but he always supported him even when he disagreed. Other than that I thought it was good. Bane throughout the first half was truly terrifying. Then he just sort of fizzled out. By the way how did you ever recognize Tom Hardy in that mask LOL! I liked the twist with Miranda Tate as well. And Anne Hathaway as Catwoman was perfect. The perfect mix of sultry, sarcastic wit, and attitude. Woohoo! Can't wait for Hawkeye! One of my favorite of the MCU tv series.

kaliwali

LOL it had its moments of goof

kaliwali

You can definitely feel that tone shift in this movie! Same kinda tone as Spider-Man 3. It wasn't really Raimi or Nolan's final movie anymore. It was the corporation's. Sad but happens I suppose

kaliwali

I'd actually love to check out the animated series as some point! After this trilogy, I'd also love to see more of the older Batman films and apparently the newer one with Pattinson. Loved this world a lot! Thanks for hanging out and sharing your favorite moments!!

Malcolm Ferguson

I agree about Alfred leaving. That always felt wrong to me. I'm guessing there must have been scheduling issues with Michael Caine that made him unavailable for most of the shoot, but still, I think that could have been handled better. That said, the scene at the end, where he sees Bruce, ALMOST makes up for it. But it's not like they couldn't have kept him around longer and still done that. I think you summed my thoughts on Bane pretty well, by saying he fizzled out. Because I DID think he was a pretty cool and menacing villain at first, and then that was kind of lost, especially after the Miranda reveal, where he's just killed off almost as an afterthought.

Justyn

My first time rewatching this trilogy in about 4 years and my final thoughts are as follows. Some people feel like these are much better Nolan films than they are Batman stories, and after seeing some other iterations of the character i have to agree. This trilogy, especially The Dark knight was THE definitive Batman story in my mind for several years. I was 11 when it came out and its one of the most impactful films that has been made in my lifetime...HOWEVER. Upon rewatching several times...some things become very clear. I think these films really drop the ball when it comes to displaying how different Bruce and Batman are, and how much of a false identity that Bruce Wayne really is. Him giving up the Cape and Cowl because of Rachels death never really felt right to me...Batman is who Bruce BECAME after the trauma of losing his parents, not something he pretends to be, if that makes sense. When hes not wearing his suit, when hes alone, or when hes talking to someone he trusts like Rachel, Alfred, or Lucius, he should be more similar to the Batman we see with the cape on, than the Bruce wayne we see without it. Id suggest watching some of the animated series to get the best expample of this idea being portrayed. The gravely bat-growl doesn't help with this problem either...not only does it sound...ridiculous once you know it's his thing in these, but it doesn't make a ton of sense for the character either. The only fake voice he should ever be using, is the one he uses when hes wearing a suit and tie pretending to be Bruce wayne eccentric billionaire. Also as much as i love the chaotic choppy nature of these films, especially TDK i do actually think that its paced too quickly. These stories are epic and personal but i feel like the editing style is a bit antisynergistic to the way the script is so thematically heavy. Either way, these films are great for what they are, the dark knight is one if the greatest films of the 21st century and one of my favorite films of all time, but these really are subpar as far as true Batman stories go. I LOVED 2022s The Batman with Pattinson, and again the animated series with Kevin Conroy is just perfect. Great reaction as always! Cant wait for more.

Marty McGee

She's one of my favorites in that show. Rewatching her in this now is jarring. I think it's her American accent and high voice. LOL!

Marty McGee

Not sure if you've ever watched Pitch Meetings which are comedy skits by Ryan George on YouTube. There always a good laugh and the one for this movie is great!

Geoff Futch

I still mumble this to myself whenever I hear the "Deshi Basara" track

Geoff Futch

There was also talk that there may have been some early plans to continue with plot points that involved the Joker (i.e. some stuff that got sketched out before post-production on TDK was even done). When Heath Ledger died, that obviously had to be scrapped. I can't confirm *how* true that is, but I've read it in a number of places, and it wouldn't surprise me if Heath's death definitely didn't help the prospects of making a third film in Nolan's eyes. *Edited to capitalize "Joker," cuz I'm particular about my writing and don't wanna be accidentally tossing shade at the Clown Prince of Crime like that.

Geoff Futch

Kali, you'll definitely get some unique vibes and thoughts from the "Battinson" film. I loved it, personally. While I thoroughly enjoyed the Nolan films overall, "The Batman" from 2022 scratches an itch that I didn't really know I had until I watched it. Hard to explain further without unpacking a lot of stuff you just need to see for yourself without spoilers, IMO. Love what you're doing. Keep it up!

Jose Morales

I had heard similar, and I totally agree about Nolan feeling different about a third movie without Ledger.

David L

Other great Christopher Nolan movies you haven't reacted to are The Prestige, Inception, Dunkirk, TENET, and Oppenheimer. Check them out! The semi-recent reboot of The Planet of the Apes Trilogy was great as well.

Robert Foxx

As You have enjoyed the trilogy have you thought about playing the Arkham games. They may be considered old but honestly are still better made then alot of modern games.

Kirill D.

The movie has it's problems but the overall wrap up of the trilogy is great. Also, who wouldn't have left with a catwoman? You saw the way she arches her back!

Giancarlo Gasparin

I think you’re spot on with your take on Bane’s mask. Hardy did a great job, and we know he’s got the acting chops. But the reason Ledger’s performance was so good was because we got to see all the nuance in it. Every click, lazy eye twitch, and twisted smile was on full display, and it felt visceral. Bane’s overall appearance and mask (while comic-accurate) absolutely took away from Hardy’s performance and I think that’s why they focused so much on making his voice unique.

Walker

I really hope you will watch Man of Steel at some point. It’s made by Zac Snyder (300) and Christopher and Jonathan Nolan (Batman Trilogy). Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner and Michael Shannon are all great.

Ray

Man of Steel is a must watch if you enjoyed the Dark Knight Trilogy.

Ray

Bane's goal is to wipe Gotham City off the face of the Earth and he plans to use the nuke to do it.
