I knew I shouldn't have picked favorites in this show.. Gotten attached. Knew names. Rooted for them. But here I am, emotionally compromised and staring at the ceiling after watching these episodes. The range of emotions I felt during episode 6 was insane. My whole body took about an hour to stop being tense after watching these back to back. The tension was suffocating, the lines between strategy and humanity were blurred, and suddenly every quiet conversation carried the weight of unspoken goodbyes. I kept telling myself don't get attached, don't feel. Which is new for me lol. But of course, I did & this game absolutely wrecked me for it.Episode 4 lulled me into a false sense of connection. Alliances formed, moments of kindness snuck in between fear, the illusion of a team still meant something here. The strategy behind tug of war was so EPIC thanks to the old guy. Then Episode 5 sharpened a knife. Trust became currency. Morality became negotiable. Every choice felt like it cost a piece of someone's soul. I could just feel the show asking us the most uncomfortable question: What would YOU trade to survive? A question I honestly sat with uncomfortably for awhile. Then episode 6 happened. The quietest game yet and somehow.. the loudest. No spectacle. No chaos. Just people, stories, memories, and the unbearable intimacy of what was being asked of them in that game. I don't think I breathed a single normal breath the entire time. I knew what kind of show this was, but knowing didn't make what played out hurt any less. So, I'm wrecked. But in that very specific way where you can't look away from the screen because something so true is being said. Squid Game isn't just testing its characters and their personalities. It's testing us. The viewer. Our empathy, our judgements, our stories that we tell ourselves about who we would become under pressure. I'm going to keep watching (obviously!), but I'm beating myself up for being too emotionally invested LOLI'll see you all for the final three episodes of this first season next week! I can't wait!!Thank you for your support on Patreon!Relax and enjoy 🍿🌿SYNC ALONG LINK: https://youtu.be/qv_Uh9B4YCwI watched this on Netflix

Before I even press play on these episodes, I can remember how they made me feel on my first watch when this season first aired, especially episode 6....so I'm mostly prepared this time....... mostly. Honestly, I don't have an accolade strong enough to praise you for watching this show for the first time in front of a camera for us all, it must have taken some doing Kali, so congratulations and thanks are thoroughly deserved.. Looking forward to the next three next week....xx ♥️

Episode 6 broke me hard when I first watched it. The opening of Up was devastating, but this episode was pain. Pure pain. I grew attached as well, and not only did it hurt to see, but also asking myself what I would have done in that situation. I even asked others around me that also watched.

Farbod

I’ve watched episode 6 maybe 5 times. Cry every time.

Peter Wyatt

Maybe this isn't the kind of show you would want to binge watch, considering you'd be absolutely emotionally exhausted for like the next entire day right after you're finished. Lol.

PG Modehouse

That last shot of Ali looking like a hurt puppy when realization dawns on him... it's a gut punch every time.

Damon Shaw

I just sat through a different 2.5hr film reaction, and now you have the cheek to threaten me with this? Ok.. if I must!

Derek Harris

Kali, just a reminder I think you are forgetting that 1 told 456 that he had a brain tumor in the first episode when they first met.

Michael

In the tug of war game as they’re pulling the other team the look on Gi Hun’s face as he realizes he’s about to cause them to die is really great acting without having to say anything

Episode 6 is so cruel. But cruel in the way that makes this show so amazing and stick with you so long after. The way they've been playing on these characters relationships. Forcing them to band together to survive the night time gang wars, and then work together in tug of war, only to turn it against them is so crazy. And such good writing. I was prepared for it this time, but Ali getting betrayed wrecked me so bad on the first watch... That the most innocent, caring, and most of all trusting, one there ultimately had all his best qualities used against him To end on a happier note, the tug of war battle is so epic the way it was done! Hearing 001's narration of the strategy as they approach, the way the music builds up as the game starts, and then their chanting in unison as they pull. It's soooo good! Gives me chills

The crushing 3 episodes 😅🤭🤭 roll on the final 3 💖💖

Damon Shaw

Episode 6 has got to easily be the heaviest episode of a series ever created. This is my third watch-through of season 1 and that episode always leaves me feeling all kinds of messed up. I hope you managed to quickly zen yourself afterwards and not have it put too much of a downer on the rest of your day.

Elderly people can be really sneaky with their dementia. When my grandfather got pretty old, he would pretend to forget things and joke around with it. We could never tell if he was really forgetting, being funny, or using comedy to hide it and keep us guessing. Maybe all three. The man was a genius too. I would play cards with him and he would absolutely smoke me in gin and pitch. He could add up the score instantly. I loved him so much. RIP Papa.

if you remember, 001 in ep 1 said to 456 that he had a brain tumour and didn't have that long to live. I think he wanted to live his last few months with joy which probably brought some memories when he was a kid. Despite the fact that people die 😅.

The ruthlessness of 101 and 218 is really no different, but I think 218 is more evil simply because it's treachery with a smile. You know exactly where you are with 101, but with 218 you can never relax.

kaliwali

I have to agree with you here! At least 101 had his honesty going for him. But 218 is just a wild card and that makes him way too dangerous.

kaliwali

Yeah I remember him mentioning that!

kaliwali

I love this story so much haha 🩷

kaliwali

I ended up playing some games later that night to get my mind off the show lol. It was definitely a heaaaavy episode.

kaliwali

No I remember! Why do you say that?

kaliwali

A hurt puppy is such a great way to describe Ali... Ugh my heart!

In reaction channels, there come a few choice films and episodes of media that are so heavy it almost feels cruel to watch people watch them, and Ep 6 is definitely one of those. What I love about the whole concept of the show is that the island is an accurate microcosm for a capitalist society, with all of the cruelties, corruptions and chaos therein. I love that the writers included the organ trade plotline; even the infrastructure that keeps the people in this societal rat race is similarly, inherently corrupt, and even the faceless guards that enforce the games are entirely disposable, no more advantaged than the people they are killing. Capitalism, by its very design, is an unjust system based upon a false pretense of equality (the free market economy), there are players with inherent advantages and weaknesses, education, intelligence, strength, brutality, but the whole cycle depends upon the apathy and self-interest of the individual, what they stand to gain or lose by speaking out and questioning the status quo. The moment they realize they will be rewarded for killing outright mob murder breaks out, and the moment two allies are pitted into direct play with each other their loyalties and pledges go out the window. Factions cut deals, people inform on their neighbours, there are collaborators and double agents. Everyone is able to rationalize their self-interest, so no movement can rise up to overwhelm their captors. Just like real society, all it takes to commit injustices is the tacit consent of the majority. AND YET, within this horrible, unchanging wheel of exploitation and death, there are still individual acts of solidarity, kindness and sacrifice. Even in this dark encapsulation, the human spirit endures in tiny but endlessly meaningful ways, which I think is what keeps the show from being too much to bear. Lenin said "Every society is three meals away from chaos", and I think that's a lot of what this show is about. When a person is starving they can be capable of the most unthinkably evil OR devastatingly noble acts, and somewhere between those two extremes is humanity.

kaliwali

Wow this is such a thoughtful and beautiful take. Episode 6 does feel almost cruel and I completely agree that what makes it bearable is those tiny fragile moments of humanity. That tension between survival and solidarity is definitely what wrecked me. I LOVE that you framed the island as a microcosm. Especially the idea that everyone even the guards are disposable cogs in this twisted machine. The show never lets anyone stay morally comfortable and you're so right that survival is weaponized. People can justify anything and sometimes, somehow, still choose kindness anyway which is the real plot twist in it all. Love the Lenin quote.. it is chillingly perfect here. Hunger strips people down to their core and seeing botht the worst and the most noble parts of humanity exist side by side is what made this episode hit and linger for a long time. I appreciate you sharing all of this!! I love the depth that you can see within this show when you take a step back from the devastation of it all. It leaves so much room for thought and real life lessons. Definitely what I have loved about it the most.

James Park

Yes Kali, sinisterness is a word 👍

Qautin

At 2:15:20, Lee Byung-hun is mentioned. He is the actor of the frontman.

James Park

Its definitely a deep look in to the human condition, can you really truly know anyone, would you sacrifice yourself to save someone or lie and cheat to save yourself, as Shan Yu said "Live with a man 40 years. Share his house, his meals, speak on every subject. Then tie him up, and hold him over the volcano's edge, and on that day, you will finally meet the man,"

pinkdino99

This is my first watch along with you Kali. In all honesty I couldn't really care about the behind the scenes stuff. The "why" is unimportant to me. For me its all about what is happening with the participants. Kali... have you watched Game of Thrones ?
